Chapter 23_Finding my team

I got to where the loud music and gigglings

was coming from, it was a dance theatre

filled with students dressed in fitted

costumes for dancing.

On the entrance of the hall was a scroll with

The supernatural dance competition

embedded in it.

Oh, this was the dance crew. They were very

jovial and were practicing some moves

while some others were seated on the floor.

I stood by the entrance and watched the

moves as they danced.

Soon,I got lost in the dancing spirit and

didn't know when I also started moving my

body in sync with the others as they

displayed their moves.

One...

TWO...

Three...

I twisted my body and jumped on one leg,

also somersaulted at the end of the dance

and when I turned, I met one of the seniors

looking at me with amazement.

It was one of the seniors who danced in the

dining area, they seem to be the ones who

lead the dancing team.

"Wow" she crossed her hands over her

chest "are you a dancer?" she asked me.

She was talking to me?

A senior wanted to know if I was a dancer,

cool!

"Uhmm not really, I just happen to dance

well. I don't really dance often "I said trying

to sound as calm and polite as ever.

I think I'm going to be famous in school..

She grabbed my hand!

"Congratulations, a chance to dance every

day is here" she led me inside where the

others were and attracted all their attention

with a clap of her hands.

"Hey guys meet.." she turned to me with a

questioning look. She didn't know my name

so I helped her out.

"Medusa" I supplied.

"Right Medusa" she smiled at me. " Meet thec rew members".

"Hello everyone" I waved.

"Yo, what's up"

"Welcome"

"Those legs can do wonder, I can tell" were

the remarks from the other members of the

crew.

Most of them were seniors. The few juniors

around were seated watching and taking in

the dance steps of the seniors.

I felt a little bit nervous so I smiled

sheepishly. A senior girl floated towards me. I was wowed as I watched her flaunt her

ability and near me in a blink of an eye.

" You will give me your information then you

will be officially registered as one of the

group member" she said to the dazed me who had her eyes opened wide like the laps of a

woman in labor.

"Hello." she flicked her fingers which

brought me back to reality away from my

short trance.

"Oh yeah, gladly..! I will "I stammered.

I gave her my details and she wrote them

down in a journal she held in her hand. She

nodded when she was satisfied with the

details I provided and walked away.

And there, I was in the dance team without

foreplanning the whole thing.

I went to sit near the other newbies. "Hello,"

I said to the five newbies I recognized. I've

seen them in class.

"Hey Medusa" they replied and went ahead

to continue watching the dance.

Did they know my name?

"You know my name?" I asked in wonder.

"Of course" the girl seated beside me

answered, "You are popular in class, you

and your friends" she finished.

"Especially you, you caused trouble on the

first day and teacher Hunter seems to take

a fancy to you. " Another newbie added.

"What? no!" my face turned red with

embarrassment.

They all laughed mockingly at me. "Chillax

he's just kidding, " another one said.

Soon after the seniors finished showing us

the dance steps even though I had already

mastered them.

"Your turn" Senior Natasha, who was also

one of the girls that danced in the dining

area, said and shepherded us to the stage.

It was not much of a stage. It was more like

the open space in the theatre, the seniors

were circling it leaving the open space like

a stage.

We took the stage and the music was

started.

We started slowly at first and continued to

increase the pace of the dance as the

music increased.

Some of the others missed the steps and

stopped to look at us. In the end, it was me and the boy that addressed me first that

was left dancing.

We somersaulted to the last beat of the

music and were met by the loud whistles

and claps from the others.

We practiced more and the others who

were not able to keep up before did better.

Finally, the dance section ended and the

seniors practiced their music.

It was all so fun that I laughed and laughed

even harder because of the fun I had. I

could not remember the last time I laughed

so hard.

We jubilated and said goodbyes when

everything ended.

"Let's meet again here tomorrow guys"

Senior Natasha addressed everyone and we

all went our ways.

I and some of the girls walked together

towards our hostels.

The school was still lively as some of the

other groups were still practicing and

rehearsing.

The girls were chattering happily and I was

putting in one or two words.

I did enjoy myself in the singing and

dancing team but I felt like it was not really

where I belonged and where I want to be.

I was following them to the hostel until I

remembered the punishment.

I needed to be in the library!

"Guys, I have to be somewhere else. I will see

you guys around later" I said to them in

haste.

"Ok Medusa, bye, " they said and waved me

goodbye.

I ran to the library and soon I was there. I

walked in and looked around for any sign of

the girls but I found none.

Maybe they were still busy with their teams I reckoned.

I went to the shelf to pick a book to pass

time. I was searching through the books

when I heard indistinct noises coming from

behind the wall of the library where I stood.

The curiosity in me awoke from slumber

and I walked towards the door wondering

what was making whispers like the ones l

was hearing.

I pushed the wall and it shifted to my

surprise. I pushed it even harder this time

and the wooded wall turned around while

turning me around also.

"Whoa!" I exclaimed thinking I had just

discovered a secret passage that led to a

super secret history or organization of the

school.

I was turned to the other side but my face

was still facing the back so I turned around.

And there they were, seniors and 3 newbies

starting at me with what I was sure were

irritating gazes in their looks.

It was the annoying jerk wearing

transparent prescription glasses. He used

his hand to shift his glasses and pressed

his lips to a thin line when he saw me

invading.

"Uhmm hi," I said quickly to them all while

looking at them one after another.

They were 10 in number Mia included. They

were buried in their books I was sure until I

invaded.

This must be the quiz team and an

annoying jerk was their leader.

I cannot believe I just embarrassed

myself in front of the annoying jerk. He was

probably inwardly laughing at the way I just

mortify myself.

"Hey Mia, I said getting nervous at the

looks they were shooting me. I had to lie l

came to find Mia.

"Medusa, what are you doing here?" she

whispered to me with surprise evident in

her tone.

"The library cleaning, I came to find you

because of it" I lied.

"I will join you guys later as soon as I am done here " she replied me.

I nodded and walked away quickly. I stood

near the wall that brought me there and

pushed it the same way I had pushed it

open before.

It did not bulge as the wall remained adamant

and didn't want to move.

The annoying jerk stood up but I was

unaware. I had my back turned to them until

I felt his dominant aura behind me.

I turned slowly and alas! My eyes

interlocked with his.

I looked away immediately and tried to open

the door, he also wanted to open the door

to let me out. He probably wanted me out

as soon as possible

Maybe I was irritating him too much that he

couldn't take it and couldn't help but stand

up to let me out.

Unfortunately, our hands brushed and my

cheeks flushed at the brief physical touch.

I removed my hand and allowed him to

push the wall to let me out.

I turned around with the door and I got out.

Pheww!I don't know why that seemed like

the most embarrassing day of my life.

I took a book amidst the shelves like I

originally planned and went to the counter

to submit it.

I dropped the books on the counter and my

jaw slacked causing my face to elongate.

Mackenzie was the one behind the counter,

what was she doing there?

"Mackenzie?" I called.

She squeezed her pretty face "Hey Medusa,

I thought we were supposed to be working

not reading books why are you bringing

books to the counter?" she queried.

"I was waiting for you guys, Mia is still busy

with the quiz group and I thought l'd read

some books while waiting. I did not expect to

find you behind the counter on the librarian

spot" I also queried her.

"The librarian asked me to wait here while

she arranged the chores we will tend to but she has been gone since forever " she threw

her hands up.

"I found her among the quiz group, they are

studying, Mia is there too." And so is the

annoying jerk I wanted to say but I did not.

If I mention him now, Mackenzie would

probably tell Mia, and then our honorable

four eyes Mia would tease me about it all

day.

I must not call her four eyes in her presence

that was like igniting a fire on a lump of

burning coal. She would explode with anger.

I noticed almost all the quiz team members

were on glasses, including the annoying

jerks. Maybe they thought it was cool or

maybe it increases their confidence or

something. Or maybe it makes them more

smarter, or maybe it gives them the

distinctive smart status which makes them

stand out amongst others.

Or maybe... Arrgh. I don't know. My brain

refuses to process such ambiguous

information!

"I thought you were supposed to be in the

mind test team. Why did you come back so

early?" I asked Mackenzie while putting my

hands on my waist.

"We did not really do anything today, all we

did was just register and they gave us

books to study. The entry test will begin

tomorrow " she explained.

The entry test was tomorrow? Wish I could

watch it.

Or wait! I should be able to watch. I will

sneak and peep, it was my area of expertise

I smirked.
