Chapter 62_ Bunch of Hypocrites

She doesn't know why she gets these panic attacks whenever she was in a tight spot.

Right now, she was enmeshed in the uncertainty of selling Mackenzie out or not. What if she was wrong about her and Mackenzie had been telling the truth all along?

What if alerting teacher Hunter and steering things up would put her in a serious mess? Would she be tagged as a bad friend who accuses her friends wrongly?

Series of what ifs were rampaging her mind but it

was too late to turn back now. She was in front of teacher Hunter now who was expecting her to speak.

Her breathing suddenly increased and the blood stopped circulating to her heart birthing the increase in her heart rate.

"Sir" she began. "I have a roommate.. No, actually, l have two roommates" she stammered.

Sweet Lord, she was fretting and there was no controlling it.

"Take it easy, young lady. Baby steps?" Teacher Hunter urged her encouragingly, then " What's your name?" he asked.

"Mia" she was quick to reply that. That was an easy question.

Hence, the hard one followed suit " Okay Mia, tell me what it was that had been bothering you up to the extent that you feel this burdened to share"

"I have two roommates, one is Medusa and one is Mackenzie. Actually, I am here because of Mackenzie. I remembered you told us about how demons could possess normal people. She has been acting off lately, she had also been using her powers way too much. I mean, the way she got total control of her powers after a few classes of being in the school is questionable. She also has this severe itching on her hand which peels off almost all her skin and heals on its all afterward " she went ahead to narrate all the happenings to Teacher Hunter, making sure not to miss out on any information.

The only thing that surprised her was the teacher's unchanged mug. It was as if he was hearing a normal thing from her.

The teacher must have dealt with possessed people way too long before it and seemed normal to him. Does that mean her theory was correct? They have been sleeping, waking, bathing, and doing almost everything with a demon?!

Was she the reason why she and Medusa quarrels a lot?

It was pleasing to know she had not been a bad friend by coming to teacher Hunter. She was saving the day.

The teacher stood up from his chair and dropped his glasses on the table. " You see, I do not think your friend is possessed. I mean, something is fishy about her all right from your explanations but I do not think she is possessed by demons" she heard him say.

If not demons then what?

"What do you think might be wrong with her sir? What is the fishy thing about her?" she asked him with respect?

She watched him scratch the back of his neck and he shrugged "l only know she is not possessed. I don't know exactly what's wrong with her" he supplied and she almost wanted to ask him why he was so carefree about it when he added "I know all the possessed people in this school. I do not know of the other dimensions but in this one, I'm in, I know them all" he spewed.

She thought she was not hearing the teacher well. Did he know them because he teaches how to catch them? " How... How do you know them all sir?" she stammered, clueless.

He moved away from the table and walked to the door, she watched him turn the lock, locking both of them in and her heart started to race.

Was she in the wrong place?

In her quest to find answers and solutions to their troubles had she landed herself in trouble?

"Because..." teacher Hunter twisted his

neck "I am one of them"' she heard his neck snap and bones shot out of his entire body.

From his face, to his neck and back, there were bones all over them. This didn't look like the teacher Hunter that was sitting in front of her just now . This looked like a bony, horrific, terrible demon.

Teacher Hunter's face was suddenly bared as the bones that punctured his face was dripping blood and he was all bloody.

She wanted to scream but her voice was lost. She wanted to run but her entire body was paralyzed by an unknown force.

So, she could merely sit back, blinking and frozen to the spot.

"You see, we demons have no business with your friend. She is not one of us and I do not know what she was but, since she was not a holy soul why not allow her to be? She would only be helping us the more in carrying out our mission. With people like

her, the havoc we were sent to cause in the school would only be done faster" he was walking towards her now.

His leg made slapping sounds on the floor as his feet was widened and were facing the back instead of their usual spot in the front.

"You see, what can I do with you? People like you are the ones we target. The one's who are fighting for peace are our enemies"

he licked his fingers as he asked her even though he knew she could not answer him. Mia was shaking and mumbling muffled sounds trying to jerk off her paralysis but it was futile, she was trapped.

He placed his hands which also had bones shooting out of them on her head " First, let's see if anyone saw you on your way here. I cannot afford to blow my cover. This vessel is the perfect one to carry out my work" then, her head sizzled and shook violently against his hand.

She felt him inside her head and within seconds, he gasped as if he was drawing in breath loudly. "Sadly, Eira witnessed you coming here" he said and removed his hands from her head almost immediately. Today must be your lucky day" he added.

"Or, should I just possess you instead?" he smirked then slapped his bone filled face "Nah, I love this body. No one suspects him, he is the defense teacher after all" he laughed maniacally, mocking the school and those in it. "I know...!" he suddenly snapped his fingers.

His hand that was withdrawn from her head returned back to it. "I will just remove all the memories you have of suspecting the girl and the memory of this moment" he said and before Mia could react, the sizzling resumed and it was more intense this time around.

She shook along with his shaky hands and the pain that penetrated her brain cells almost made her slump.

She thought she could fight for a bit longer but now, the power to stay woke was not in her hands anymore so when the darkness came, it took her and the light in her eyes.

***

She was outside the teachers' offices building, standing and staring into empty space.

A voice sent her senses back to her " Are you not supposed to be in the graveyard?" the voice asked her and it felt like Deja vu.

She turned her back to see teacher Hunter exiting the teacher's building.

That was right, the voice over did say to assemble in the graveyard for the funeral.

"I am sir" she stammered, unsure whether the teacher was going to scold her or not but teacher Hunter was the quiet and observant type. Not the type to scold and yell like all black.

"Then, you should be going Mia, not standing here and looking lost" he smirked, now walking to the school's graveyard himself.

Mia...

Teacher Hunter did say her name just now. He had noticed her in class enough to know her name?

Wow...

"I am about to go now sir" she smiled, proud that the teacher took note of her enough to remember her name. The teacher's next words made her feel

more delighted " You could walk with me, it's where I'm headed" he proposed. Just as there were proud seniors and humble ones in the school, so were the teachers too, she thought.

Walking with teacher Hunter to the graveyard would be a privilege. The other newbies would see her and get envious of her.

"Thank you sir" she giggled and followed the teacher closely, to the school's graveyard.

Soon, they got to the filled up necropolis

which had most of the students sitting with black outfits on and the teachers too.

Dean Androcles was also sitting in front draped in black while the sixth year teacher who informed them about the pending visitation of the mystic coalition was the one addressing the crowd.

Why was there no priest?

Does the school even comprehend the teachings of religion?

She was right, eyes were on them as they closed on the grave yard. Since they were late, everywhere was filled and teacher Hunter went over to sit on his reserved seat while she traveled her eyes around, looking for the girls.

Mackenzie's hand was slightly lifted up to alert her. When she saw the raised hand, she walked over to them.

The girls had also reserved a seat for her. Wyllow and Pandora were also present.

When she sat, Medusa's scorning was what welcomed her.

"You chose the perfect partner" she said and when Mia looked at her, she saw her encircling her hands over her eyes to indicate glasses.

Without being told, she knew she was connecting the arrival of her and Teacher Hunter to them dating or something like that.

"Do I have to tell you every time to shut up? You only know how to talk without using your brain, don't you?" Mia scoffed and

Pandora laughed instantaneously.

"Never knew you were sassy Mia, she said.

Mia turned to Pandora with a hiss " Who is sassy?" she glared at the Pandora that was still laughing.

Pandora raised up her hand without saying

anything further.

"Silence girls" Mackenzie called them to order and silence followed suit.

Mia glanced in the teacher's way and listened to her sermons.

"The total number of lost souls was fifteen, four of which were the students who went on the mission. Five newbies died and six seniors died too. The sad demise of our beloved friends, seniors, and students is greatly mourned by us and we pray for a good place for them in the afterlife" the teacher was saying.

Bunch of hypocrites, Mia thought. They say those students' deaths were greatly mourned yet, they wanted to commence training for the competition

immediately because of their reputations. They couldn't lay down a day to respect the souls and cancel activities for the rest of the day.

The battle of the fittest senior Eira said.

She would fight and strive hard to be one of the fittest while the others underestimated her.

She listened to the sermons of the teachers until they started inviting friends of each demised student to come to give speeches about their friends.

Tears and wailings generated around and she couldn't help but shed a few tears at the genuine pains those students felt at losing their friends and the great send off speeches.

Soon, the funeral ended and without a closing prayer, the students' coffins were buried while those who could cry out loud did and those who could silently mourn also silently cried.

She knew there would be those who would not mourn along with them, the heartless people in the school who were after the lives and peace of the entire students.

This school, it was a hell they all didn't need. If there was another hell harsher than this reality then she wanted to be an angel, to fly in the heavens amongst other angels and remained pure.

At the end of the day, fifteen students died and no teacher fell sick or lost their lives. That was the might of power.

Now, more than ever she was confused if it would be better if she was in the other dimension, ignorant about the evil of the world and living her life or if it was better or if she was here, finding out and discovering the evils of the world and how to adapt to them.
