"What are you going to do?" Uma asks, looking at herself in the mirror. She wears a long, lavender wedding dress.
I scratch my head.
She chose the same color for our wedding ceremony.
We're in a church basement, and the wedding is hours away.
Vanessa is sitting with the guests in the church.
It's been four weeks since I had lunch with Suzy-May. The only thing that's changed is that Suzy-May and I don't talk. Except for the polite greetings when I'm at Vanessa's house, we remain far apart.
I slide my hands into my pants pocket. My right hand plays with Suzy-May's engagement ring.
I upsized it immediately, including more diamonds. It's insured now because of the value.
"How do I look?" Uma asks, making eye contact with me in the mirror.
"Stunning," I tell her, hoping she knows I'm telling the truth.
