Chapter 32: Barely Made It

“Move in.”

Zaros was in his wolf form, his crimson fur gleaming under the streetlights of New York City. No unsuspecting humans were around right now, not in this dangerous part of the city during so many vanishings. From the spies he sent in, they got word of activity and a huge uptick in vanishings here lately.

The Alpha padded through the alleyways, lifting his nose to the sky and taking a deep breath. The night was pitch black with no stars, given not only was it a new moon, but it was overcast. Cold droplets formed on Zaros’s whiskers due to the humidity. A brisk wind rushed through the area, sending shivers down his spine.

The wolf turned his head, looking toward stretching flitting blotches of shadows that may have belonged to someone. Or, it could be nothing. He let out a frustrated snort upon realizing the flashing, broken lights in this area were making things a bit disorienting. Shaking out his fur, he darted down another alleyway, trying to catch scent of the enemy.
