Chapter Fourteen

Cayden POV

How did she catch the buck? I don't think I have ever managed to take something down like that on my own. I cannot believe she made a fool out of me in front everyone and now my wolf is intrigued with her.

'She is amazing. Did you see the buck Cayden? She would make a strong luna.'

'Wait what? Hunter you cannot be serious? We decided to take Scarlett as our mate'

'You take her, and I will rip her throat out. She is not worthy of us'

'Hunter calm down let's just carry on as we are at the moment and maybe start to get know Jennifer. That way we are not blowing are chances with either of them.'

'I don't like it but if it means you agree to get to know Jennifer I will agree'

"Cayden, I cannot believe your dad" Scarlet screeches storming into my room "how did she manage it? How dare she show the future alpha up."

"She did not know about the competition Scarlet so calm down" why is everyone going off on one today.

"Your dad hates me. How do you know he didn't tell her?" sighing I fling my hoodie on and pass her to go find my mother, she always knows how to deal with problems.

"Come on let's go down to the barbecue. I'm hungry and I need to talk to my mum about something."

We had arrived back from my aunts at lunchtime whilst they were at the mall, Carl had informed me that they were all back early from the Red Moon pack and taken in over twenty pups into the pack and I needed to find out why, it seemed bazaar that they had taken in only pups.

Finding my mum wasn't hard but she was busy, and I didn't want to disturb her, thinking about going back to Scarlett I change my mind as I see her with Harriet and Giselle and decide to look around for my siblings instead, to my shock they hadn't bothered to even come find me like they usually did, so it was probably a good idea to check up on them.

"Sammy" "Jenni" I hear my siblings shout, spinning in the direction of their shouts I'm shocked to find them launching themselves at the siblings I need to apologise too. What the hell? The next thing I know a horde of pups run towards her shouting and talking all over each over, how on earth can she understand them all at once?

I find myself watching her as she interacts with them, she moves over to Chelsea when a scream comes from a baby, Chelsea has a baby? I really do not understand what is going on. A little boy asks to be held and makes a fuss of the baby too. She would make a good mother, woah where did that come from, I need to stop thinking. 'Cayden she would make good mum to our pups. You cannot deny it.' No, I couldn't. Not after seeing how she interacted with all the pups.

"The feral wolves have crossed onto our border. Don't interact with them. Keep Clear of them" Dad commands everyone.

Jennifer POV

Making a fuss of Poppy I hear a familiar whimper and spin to see the culprit, what is the troublesome pup up to now? Placing Scott down I weave through the crowd to the pup and kneel in front of him, as soon as I am down, he leaps onto my lap "What you doing here pup? Are you causing trouble again?" Scratching between his ears and stroking down his back he lets out a small purr.

"The feral wolves have crossed onto our border. Don't interact with them. Keep Clear of them" Alpha Joe commands before he sees the pup in my arms. "Jenni, you need to put him down quickly and move away" he moves to come to my side, but the pack is already here. Growls surround me, bowing my head towards the treeline the alpha steps out and nuzzles the side of my face stepping around me to keep the rest of the pack away.

All my pup's step around all the adults dodging their attempts to stop them, they step to a respectable distance like I taught them and submit to the alpha, the alpha huffs at them before bowing his head in return, stepping aside he lets them pass to me. The other pups of the pack arrive and leap towards us and go to my pups to get ear and belly scratches.

"What exactly am I seeing right now?" Beta Dean's voice rings out in the silence. "Why are they not attacking?" standing up I head to the alpha, the pup following me playing with my laces as I walk, holding my hand out towards the alpha he lifts his head giving me permission to stroke him.

"Dean do you really have to ask?" Alpha Joe mutters exasperatedly shaking his head.

"So, the little pup may be slightly attached to me. Sorry Alpha."

"I am not surprised; pups seem to latch onto you." he jokes back at me taking a step towards me the alpha steps forward snarling at Joe making him pause in his tracks.

"Would you mind if they stayed for dinner? That is if we have enough meat if not, I can go catch something for them."

"Stay for dinner?" he asks amused at my request.

"Well, I have a feeling the pup is not going to leave any time soon without me and they won't leave without the future alpha."

"The pup is the alpha's son?" poor Dean, his head is going back and forth between the pup, the alpha and me.

"Of course, it is" Joe groans "No wonder he is growling at me."

"Sorry Alpha but if you would accept some advice if you treated him like a normal alpha and bow your head in respect, if he bows back, you have an agreement of truce."

"How do you know this?"

"Dean I think this is on the list"

"List?"

"The one I have got of things I'm dying to know but cannot know yet until she is ready to tell me. Am I right?"

"Sorry Alpha but you are right."

"So be it" Joe walks up and bows fully to the alpha wolf, who glances at me before bowing deeply back. "This is weird. Suppose we better get our guests some food." He declares to a shocked pack.

"Thank you, Alpha," sitting down the alpha lays next to me resting his head on my lap next to his pup who is curled up on it, scratching between his ears just like the pup I watch as the other pups of the pack bow to us before going to join the other pups.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Barbecue in full swing most of the pups have shifted to play with the feral wolf pups. Sitting at the table I watch them thinking about how our lives have changed in such a short amount of time. Stroking the alpha wolf's head, I smile at how he has stuck by my side. Joe joins me at my table inclining his head to the wolf as he does, the wolf returning it without hesitation.

"Never thought I'd see the day where we would be getting along. We have been at odds and avoiding each other for years, you come along and wham here we are all getting along. So do I get to know the story of how you managed to get another alpha wolf obsessed with you?" he grins.

"It was-"

"Alpha Joe it was amazing. The bear was huge."

"You saved the pup from a bear?" he asks putting two and two together.

"It was massive Joe. It was like twice the size of a wolf."

"You fought with a bear?" a luring gravelly voice asks behind me, turning around I am engulfed in his intoxicating scent, ignoring the pull I glare at him.

"Not that you would believe anything we said but I grappled with a grizzly before it walked off after I drew blood from a wound to his face."

"Look I am sorry about earlier; I was just shocked."

"I gathered, if you would both excuse me-"

"I'm Cayden" he interrupts holding out his hand, Joe smirks and I wonder what the joke it. Not taking his hand he slowly lets it drop to his side.

"Jenni, my son here had a competition with me. Whoever got the biggest catch won. And you won fair and square. So, you get a favour from Cayden, anything you want within reason." His joking right "you can make him a slave or well skies your limit." Glancing between them, nope definitely not a joke finally giving in I groan stopping Joe in his tracks.

"Actually, I have the perfect thing. Can I collect my favour now?"

"Yeah, what you want?" Cayden sighs resigned to the fact that he was not getting out of the deal he made with his dad.

"This weekend you need to spend it with your siblings and parents no one else. Harry and Cassey have missed you and how you used to take them out for ice cream and that."

"You're wasting your favour on something I would do anyway?"

"Maybe in your eyes I'm wasting it but here is a question for you. When was the last time you spent time with just them?"

"Well…well I don't know."

"Before you started going out with Scarlett" Joe informs us grinning at his son, like a cat caught a canary.

"This weekend it is then. I feel like I still owe you something though."

"Nope. I have asked my favour now you just need to follow through. If you don't, I am sure that Alpha Joe will come up with a nice forfeit for you. Now if you will excuse me, I really do have somewhere I should be." And away from you, his scent is making me go insane. I want to climb him, and I am really not ready for that yet.
