Snack Rush

I walked down the hallway, the echo of my footsteps being the only sound I could hear right then, it felt..off. I began to feel a little uneasy, which was odd. I never felt this way before, walking through these would be a cakewalk, nothing to be uneasy about. I felt like I was being followed. I looked back to see what seemed like two glowing orbs of light fairly far away. I turned around again to go forward before looking behind me and seeing Carla there, her bright eyes locking with mine. A familiar sight. It's safe to say I was scared as I had screamed at the sight of her sudden appearance. "What are you doing here?!" I interrogated her.

"I apologize for startling you b-but you left your phone in the classroom..." she responded, seemingly shaken up by my sudden interrogation. "I-I'll go back now," She said hastily turning away to leave.

"No." I said before firmly grabbing her wrist "It's a little dark, it may be nighttime before we know it" I lectured her, wagging my finger in her face in disappointment. "Stick with me, We'll go back together". I let out a sharp sigh,o the outside, this would seem like a selfless act, Unfortunately, It's not what it looks like, I needed someone to watch the outside while I collected snacks to make sure none of the staff caught us, or perferibly, me. When I finally made my way to the basement I faced Carla and gave her a few instructions, It's not like i wanted her to get caught too.

"1. Look Out For Staff Members, this'll allow me to take some snacks with less of a chance of getting caught, No.2 If you see one Hide that's it, alerting me might get yourself caught so just close the door to the basement and open it when the coast is clear." She nodded excitedly, at first it seemed she was ready and motivated, but when a branch brushed the window she jumped so high she could've fused with the ceiling. This would be very difficult, to say the least. Carla got herself in order and stood outside to keep a lookout, using the flashlight I lent her for a bit more seeing room. I looked around, walking past all of the weapons I made, the mud-soaked gardening tools, and old crusted printing paper. I continued walking, the stench of mold filling and violating my nose.

I just needed the snacks and I needed them now. At last, I had finally made it to the snack area, a large box that the students would fill in every day just for graduation night. Unfortunately, I would be stealing these snacks for our movie, It's not like they would use them anyway. I had begun to fill the snacks into a wagon before something felt off again, it was more of something that sounded off. I head an eight-D sound, like a laser of mass destruction moving from one side of the school to another just above me and then a large wave of radiation went past the basement hitting everyone above me, luckily, I was spared but what about everyone else? I quickly ditched the stash box and ran up the steps to see what happened, my mind was racing with a million different ideas, and needless to say, I was slightly scared...but Carla looked just fine.

"H-H-Higa Did you see the green wave?" she cried, her whole body was shaking as if it had dropped below zero.

A lump was my throat, green wave? "Y-Yeah... are you ok?" I asked, lifting her bangs to feel her forehead and see if she had a fever.

She nodded once more. "It s-s-seemed to have come from the powerplant a couple of miles away, I saw a small green orb before it expanded over here!" she said still shaken up "A-and I s-saw some people headed our way th-through the window" She followed up by pointing to the same window the branch hit.

I felt uneasy again, there was a sinking feeling in my stomach, the powerplant was where my dad worked, and my sister was there as well. "let's meet up with the others then we can talk about it all together" I helped her up, taking her wrist again as I lead her through the halls, the night had been a lot more settled and there had been a thick blanket of darkness in the thin hallway.

I couldn't really see Carla's expression, but I would've imagined she was just as freaked out as I was. We walked down the hallway, my flashlight just barely lighting up the way for us to see before I thought I heard something...I stopped abruptly, letting the sounds fill my ears. From the hooting of the owls to the scurrying of late-night critters, all of it until, yeah, I managed to filter out the sound of footsteps even as Carla and I had stopped moving.

I quickly darted around to take a look at what was walking toward us but was quickly relieved as I saw it was just the history teacher, he was well known for staying and sleeping at school because of grading. I took a slight breath, my relief washing away as my face went pale, I looked at him closer and he didn't look...okay. His clothes were leaning and unzipped, his skin was a deadly pale, as well as his twisted and disgustingly elongated fingers...what i couldn't filter was the heavy metallic smell the metallic tang of blood hung in the air, an unmistakable scent that triggered an instinctual response.

The steady drip of blood echoed in the silence, with each breath, the scent intensified, creating an overpowering sickening feeling to my gut. Carlas looked disgusted and concerned, it was the first time I'd seen a face like that on her before. Just when Carla was about to speak again I stopped her, my hands shaking as I gripped her wrist a bit tighter "We need to go. now,"

"Why-" I cut her off as I slid my grip to her hand and started dashing up the stairs, I could hear the steps increasing as the metallic scent faded, however, I didn't dare to stop, I didn't even dare to breathe. We raced up the stairs, they felt like they were going on endlessly, I wouldn't- No, I couldn't look up until I made it into the club room. I busted into the club room, slamming the door and falling to my knees. Carla hadn't made a peep since I took her hand, she was like she was thinking, looking at the moon. "What Happened?!" Angelica asked hastily, running up to me and rubbing my back, my vision was faded and I couldn't see anymore. I took a few breaths, aiming to calm my nerves even if it was for a fraction of a second. Before I could even speak I could hear them again, footsteps. These were gentle, quiet, and somewhat human. There was a snap sound before the hand of the professor had broken through the glass, his eyes a crimson red as his screams were more violent. His hands were constantly getting stabbed by sharps of glass, but it didn't seem like he cared. He reached for Carla as she flinched, but his arm ended up catching on the door handle, causing him to scream in pain and eventually collapse...what the hell...just happened..?
