Change of plans

Maddie had finally fallen asleep in Jay's lap, her hands still tangled together as the stars twinkled in the night sky. The plane came to a stop and Maddie, with her 10 minutes of sleep, was woken up. The pilot announced to the only two passages that the aircraft had come to a stop and to leave the plane before another person ordered the ticket. Maddie, still half asleep and dazed, shook him a bit "Hey…the plane landed…" she said softly. He didn't respond, he was still sleeping. Maddie smiled, her heart warming at the sight. "he kinda looks like a puppy?" she thought amused. Maddie took a few moments to take in the moment, not wanting it to end so soon. She slowly untangled them she thought before shaking him again, this time a bit more aggressively. He didn't budge. The doors began to close and Maddie panicked a little. She quickly shook him until he finally woke up with a start, looking around wildly. "What…where are we? What time is it?" He asked groggily as the doors closed and the plane began to take off. Maddie nearly was pushed closer to him by the plane's sudden movement. He looked at Maddie, his eyes widening in surprise."Why are you faced this way..?" He asked, suddenly aware of how close they were to each other. Maddie flushed and quickly stepped away from him, a small laugh escaping her lips. "The uh…The plane spun me around! s-say do you have any other snacks…?" she asked nervously, trying to change the topic. Jay and nodded, reaching into his bag and pulling out yet another snack for her. Maddie laughed in relief before taking it from him. "Thanks…" she said softly as the plane began to leave. Maddie ended up going back to her seat, her hands on her knees as she looked directly down. The cabin was filled with the heavy stillness of a tomb. There were no dramatic lights or electrical hums, not even a whisper from those aboard; instead, there was just an oppressive silence that clung to the walls and air like poison. A single sound escaped – a small hiccup from Jay – which seemed to break the silence, drawing Maddie's eyes towards him. He sighed. Maddie and Jay both exchanged a look before Jay finally spoke up. "Look, you don't have to be all embarrassed about all of this, it's my fault for not waking up anyway," he said with a shrug. Maddie nodded, feeling somewhat embarrassed despite his words. Maddie quickly looked away, not wanting to be put in an even more awkward situation than she already was. "If I tried hitting you…would that have woken you up?" Maddie asked, half-jokingly.
