Chapter 13: I remember you dating-

Laila POV

"I'm having fun"

Mrs Tan laughed as I dance like a fool while she sing. I have no idea what is she doing alone in front of Jeremy's building but when I offer to take her around the city she happily agreed so I thought she must have been walking around alone the whole time until she saw me.

Tina was surprised to see her. She was even sceptical about allowing me to go along with her but since she has a lot of other things to do as my agent she just allowed me without forgetting to remind me about the paparazzi and that I have a lot on my schedule so this will be my last freedom.

I'm not even a celebrity so I don't get why paparazzi keep on flocking.

After Tina drop us off I took her to my favourite Chinese food place which she was happy about. She'd been here for a whole week and she said she was starting to miss her own cuisine. When she saw the Karaoke bar I never thought that she would be the one to force me to go inside.

And here we are almost an hour later. I let her sing to her heart's content. Seeing her happy reminds me of a feeling you have around your family. I only sing twice and mostly dance to whatever song she is singing.

"Xie Xie. Thank you so much." She said as soon as she is done singing.

We both sat back to our sit and I handed her water for her to drink.

"I'm happy that you had fun." I happily said to her.

"Your parents must have been so proud of you" at the mention of my parents my mood suddenly changed.

It was as if I was stabbed in the chest. She must have seen the change in my reaction because her smile was replaced with a concerned look. I know what she was about to ask when my phone began to ring.

"Hello?"

"Laila?" Mona's voice was trembling, "Laila I need your help!"

"Why? What happened?" I asked her.

"Ken's grandma is missing. He said he just left her for a while and then when he came back she was gone!"

I got confused. I turn to look at the old lady beside me who has a curious look on her face.

"Mona?"

"Yes?"

"I don't think she is missing." I slowly said.

"What do you mean?"

"Well for starters, she's right beside me right now. I think I practically just kidnapped her." I stated.

"WHAT?" Mona shrieked from the other line that I had to pull away the phone from my ear. "Are you serious?"

"Yeah. We can meet up at the Luna cafe if you like." I told her.

"Thank God! I'll tell Ken. We'll be there. Thank you, Laila." I heard a male voice right before she ended the call. Must have been Ken.

I looked back to the lady beside me, "You weren't lost and alone when I saw you."

I stated more than ask. She just nodded and I have to take a deep breath. I just practically kidnapped someone because I thought wrong and her family is now going crazy looking for her.

"You're son and daughter-in-law are looking for you."

**********

It took us twenty minutes to get to Luna cafe. I grew fond of that place because I work there while I'm still studying at the university. George, was so happy to see me when I visited the moment I came back to this place.

"Laila, been a while. What brought you here today?" George asked as he went to our table.

"Hey George, sorry that I wasn't able to come by. Anyway, this is Mrs Tan, she's actually Mona's fiance's grandmother." I introduced.

He seems to try and remember who Mona is, "I'm guessing she's not that blonde girl you're always with."

"Yeah, you probably can't remember since she's around for only a short while."

"Well then, what can I get you?" he asked changing the subject. He was never the type to pry on things.

"Just my usual and green tea for the beautiful lady with me." I winked at Mrs Tan who had a confused look on her face.

George chuckled before going and preparing the drinks. He had a few employees but he prefer to personally prepare drinks for regular customers.

"You must go here every day." Mrs Tan pointed out.

"I actually work here while I was studying. George is kind of like family to me." I said. "It is great that you are also close with Mona. She must have a lot of culture adjusting to do."

Mrs Tan laughed, "Many things to learn. But she is good like you. My grandson is lucky to have her."

After a few minutes, George came back with our drinks, "The cake is on the house." he said as he set down two slices of red velvet.

We talked for a few more minutes before Mona came busting in. "Nǎinai zài zhèlǐ, nǐ shì! (grandma here you are!)"

"Nǐ kàn qǐlái hěn zāogāo(you look bad)" the old lady laughed at Mona's appearance and I'm guessing because of how Mona looked.

She rolled her eyes as she took a seat at our table. "It's because of you!"

"You look bad Mona" I pointed out and she gave me a glare in return.

"I was looking for her because Ken is still at his business meeting and he can't go right now. I'm having this feeling that we need to go back soon." She pouted not liking the idea.

"What do you mean?" I asked out of curiosity. To my surprise, it was Mrs Tan who answered.

"Don't like the man." She clearly objected. She slams down her cup spilling a little as she remembers something.

"She doesn't trust people easily to do business, especially since this will be the first time Ken will partner with someone else but it is actually a win-win situation. The only problem was that the guy Ken supposes to work with made a bad impression on her." Mona explained.

"So even though Ken would like to sign the deal he can't. Who was he supposed to work with?"

Mona shrugged her shoulder, "Beats me. He won't tell saying I'll be surprised to know. Anyway, I don't care either. It's none of my business to interfere with his company"

"You know, I'm curious as to how you met your fiancé." I voiced out.

There was a crazy smile on her face making her look like a Cheshire cat. "It was when I went to Hong Kong for work. I was the interior designer for the Hotel that he invested though I didn't know him. Well, you can guess the rest."

"Let's see. You followed him around like a weirdo foreigner who doesn't have a clue about their culture." She laughed at my statement clearly remembering something.

"I didn't follow him around as I used to in college. It's just that we kept bumping into each other and one night I pissed him off that he made me suffer because I clearly don't know anything nor understand them but that's how he fell for me."

I wrinkle my nose in disgust at the cheesy romance that she and Mrs Tan found funny.

"You will find your man too." Mrs Tan commented.

"Wait, last I remember is that you are dating-"before Mona can continue, she was interrupted by her phone ringing. She answered it in Chinese which I barely understand only the part where she is sad about something.

"Is there a problem?" I asked her.

"Well, this might be our last time. Ken said he needs to think about the business proposal."

It was too bad. I was liking the idea of having Mona around not just Clarisse. But I guess there must be too much of differences for them to accept the partnership. I can relate to how hard it is to work with people doing differently than what you are used to. And I admire Ken for putting in the opinion of his grandmother.
