Kai’s feet crunched on the gravel as he approached Juniper. She said nothing as she watched the waves crash into the sea and the sun shimmer along the water. She wasn’t mad anymore; instead, her mind was preoccupied with wondering how mermaids lived their lives.
“I um… I don’t actually think you are doing a bad job. I just mean that—”
“I still have a lot to learn.” She filled in.
Kai let out a long sigh. “This weekend isn’t meant to be a punishment. Come. Are you hungry?”
Juniper turned to Kai with a blank expression that hinted she was still upset with him. She looked into his pleading eyes. Her scowl slowly turned into a smirk as she got an idea. Kai could read she was up to something.
“What?” he asked, unsure what she may say.
“I’m not hungry… But I do want to swim.”
“The maid packed your bathing suit. We can — oh.”
