Epilogue

Three months later...

Dundor was drunk on ale and boiling with rage. Not only had the women and cubs gotten away, but the eggs were gone. He didn't know how. He didn't understand what he was missing. All he knew was that his time and effort had amounted to nothing. All he wanted was for the dragon nation to respect the humans as they had never done before. He wanted the dragons to see that humans weren't the weak creatures they believed.

Before him, the one man who had annoyed him the most since joining his group gave a smirk that said how stupid Dundor had been. "I told you so."

"Keep saying that, and you won't be alive much longer, Edgar."

"You realize how ignorant you are and it pisses you off," Edgar mocked.

Unable to stand hearing another mocking word, Dundor leapt to his feet, brought out a gun meant to stun a beast, and shot Edgar between the eyes, instantly killing him. Edgar's body crumpled to the ground in a heap and the leader went back to his chair and slumped, once again feeling the rage towards the dragons.

Buun stared at the body of the middle aged man in both disgust and shock. Disgust of how his kind could just kill each other when they were in a war, and shock because he hadn't thought Dundor would actually do it, let alone hit the man perfectly when drunk.

All this made him think of the Dragon girl he had caught sneaking around the basement a few months back. She had been beautiful with blonde hair and big eyes. He had thought she was a child, she was so small, until he caught sigt of her body when standing. When they locked eyes, it was like he couldn't look away, like he was being entranced.

Yet, maybe he was? She had said the most ridiculous things about him. She had told lies about the dragon kingdom and their ruler. She had even tried to seduce him, saying they were meant for each other. But after listening to her, Buun knew it was all fake, knew she was stalling. He threatened her, but when she stood there, ready to die, he couldn't bring himself to harm her. He had even tried to tell Dundor exactly who had stolen the eggs, but found himself unable to blame her. Why?

"We are mates, big guy. Mates do not hurt mates."

Her words hit him in the face. Mates? How could a human be mates with a dragon? How could a Human even trust a dragon? It was so wrong. Unnatural.

But Dundor had just killed another Human, not thinking twice about it. Could Buun do the same if the situation called for it?

"Someday soon, you will understand that Dragons aren't the terrible creatures you believe. Maybe, just maybe, you could be the first to change and end this war. Maybe you could be the first to bring about peace."

Feeling bile rise to his throat, Buun walked out of the building and into the fresh air, needing to be away from the carnage inside. However, when he looked towards Sad, he saw two figures. Both were dragon. One big and one small. Both familiar. One a violet shade of purple with big orange eyes. The other was grey with curious blue eyes. But only one held his attention. Only one made his breath catch and his body warm. Only one made him think that maybe, just maybe, that Dragon girl was right.

Because if he dared listened to her and changed sides, only to have it be the worst mistake ever, he would die. Just like Edgar, bur more brutally. Buun didn't know whether to trust himself to make that decision or not. He only hoped he did the right thing.

Then, he remembered the dragon girl's name as he seemed to hear her voice in his mind like remembering a melody. "Should you ever decide to take a chance and learn the truth, I will be around. Just call me Cameleon and I will come."
