progress pt 2

*Narrator pov*

"I remind you of someone?" Morpheus asked with a knowing smile

Albus nodded slowly, "of an old friend," his tone was heavy and vague

A silence grew between the pair as they watched the students practice the repello charm.

"Let's start with the incantation: Repello. Everyone, repeat after me," Professor Flitwick instructed his group, demonstrating the precise wand movement.

"Repello," the students echoed in unison, their wands flicking in synchronized motions.

As the students practiced the charm, colorful shields shimmered into existence in front of them. The room echoed with the sound of spells meeting shields as the students honed their defensive skills.

"Now, the interesting part! Imagine you're not just repelling the spell, but sending it back with a little twist. Focus on redirecting the energy," Professor Flitwick encouraged.

Amidst the controlled chaos, sparks flew as spells collided. Frank Longbottom, usually a bit shaky with spells, surprised himself as he successfully repelled and countered a Stunning Spell with a burst of his own.

"Nice one, Frank!" cheered Alice, impressed by his newfound skill.

Similar actions were happening with the other groups, some students failed while some excelled. The students were not only helping themselves but also the others around them.

The air seemed to be lit with a brilliance of competitiveness and teamwork as all the students present tried to master the new charm in front of them. Lily Potter was off to the side opting to self-study, she teamed up with one of her friends as they started to alternate who was casting the shield.

Sometimes the shield wouldn't deflect the spell and it would break on impact, sometimes the spell would deflect into the air.

As each minute passed you could see satisfaction on the faces of the students, the children sitting out unable to practice this new spell although gloomy were off to the side watching and taking notes with interest.

Soon Abara took the stand instead of Professor Yowie, "Before all of you get tired we want to practice the second shield spell we have taught you recently. Fortis Defensus is a spell that was created during a time period were war was rampant and castles were being sieged. This shield spell takes concentration and a lot of your magic but, guarantees a shield that can protect you from most harsh attacks," Abara explained to the room

'I remember that spell' Morpheus thought with a smile etched onto his face

Continuing Abara explained, "The incantation is Protego Durus, and the wave movement is simple in nature," Abara demonstrated slowly

Expanding Abara continued, "The spell is perfect for attacks you know you cannot handle and don't have time to dodge, although you cannot move around easily while the spell is cast Protego Durus makes up for its shortcomings in raw defensive power,"

Professor Yowie took the stand along with Abara, "Upon casting Protego Durus, a sturdy, transparent shield materializes in front of the caster. This shield is specifically designed to absorb and disperse incoming magical impacts, making it effective against a wide range of spells, hexes, and curses. The incantation, Protego Durus, emphasizes the spell's focus on durability and defense." he said as he launched some spells at Abara who used the spell

The spells seemed to dissipate against the shield, leaving the students in awe at the display.

"As you all practice Fortis Defensus, you learn not only the importance of resilience in magical combat but also the subtleties of maintaining concentration under pressure," Professor Abara finished letting the shield fall

The students seemed interested but not as interested in the spell compared to their enthusiasm for Repello. Morpheus smirked seeing the students not as excited.

*Morpheus pov*

A smirk crossed my face when I saw the students begin practicing, they don't understand it now but Fortis Defensus is a much stronger spell than it looks.

I couldnt have picked better defense spells to teach the students. Not only will they help in the upcoming duels but also in the war.

As the class winded down for the day and the professors dismissed the students Albus and I left on our own.

He headed back to his office while I went to my room.

Walking to my room I happened to run into Severus Snape and Lily Evans, "Mr. Snape, Ms. Evans. Shouldn't you be returning to your rooms?" I asked with a small smile

Snape clicked his tongue in annoyance, "We were just heading that way," he said trying to move on

"Slytherin and Gryffindor rooms are rather far apart from what I remember," I said with a relaxed grin seeing Severus become even more annoyed

Lily laughed seeing Severus's discomfort, "He was walking me back professor," she said with an innocent smile

I shook my head, "I don't mind I wanted to stop you both for something else. I noticed although you are friends you don't practice dueling together, what's the reason for that?" I asked

Lily and Severus looked at each other, "Casting spells at Sev feels weird," Lily said with a frown

I could tell she wasn't saying this romantically but in a friendship way. I'm not sure is Severus understood that though judging by his reddening face.

"I see," I said with a small chuckle, "You know the two of you are gifted duelists if you were to train together the chances of beating your opponents would go up," I suggested while yawning

"Anyways, that's something to think about don't limit yourself out of fear," I concluded walking back to my room

Entering my room I laid down to relax my mind.

***

The next day I saw many students excitedly talking about the charms they learned yesterday, I even saw some brave students try to show off in the hall.

Embarrassingly their shield spells failed and they were hit squarely in the chest with the spells.

The castle was lively, especially this morning I walked through the castle and entered the great hall. While eating my breakfast I thought of the subject I could talk about in class, thinking back on what I saw yesterday I thought of the perfect idea.

Something more practical in a sense, "What do you think of the spells Morpheus?" Professor Yowie asked me while I took a bite of eggs

Chewing I replied, "The two are suitable choices for the students, I'm surprised you picked Fortis Defensus it's not a spell typically used in a one-versus-one battle," my input seemed to cause Yowie to grow excited

"Yes it is not a typical spell but, with enough practice and dedication the students can learn it well and even use it with this 'group' casting I hear you teach," Yowie said with a slight smirk

I laughed patting him on the shoulder, "I see!" he is smarter than I thought

Finishing my breakfast I tore away from the bustle of the great hall and headed toward my classroom it seems this year is getting to be more exciting than I thought.
