Red liquid

The secret ingredient is always blood...

***

Inside the hallways of Bodie's middle school.

Everyone had the delicious red liquid flowing through them. Blood lust is a thing that vampires had learned to control back on their planet. Draekai took shifts at the gate, so he couldn't move until he was off duty guarding the duke.

The problem is on Arsangah, vampires drink the blood of other animals. They were forbidden from drinking from one another so they grew to a level where the blood of other vampires didn't even seem delectable to them. It was blue, and though they never tasted it, they felt it was disgusting.

Lex tried his best not to arouse suspicion as Bodie told him to but... all the humans would occasionally turn to stare at him for a long while then tap the person next to them and then they'll be two sets of eyes trying to bore holes into his skull.

Unfortunately, he wasn't seeing them. What he was seeing were the little tubes pumping blood around their bodies, pulsing with a hypnotizing beat in their chests and necks.

Bodie taught him how to use a map and that was what he was using to locate his classroom. The bell rang and the humans dispersed.

"Finally."

Now that they were not staring he focused on the map and located another room full of them. They all stared at him as he strode in while he regarded the fact that the only empty seat was next to some other guys who didn't seem the littlest bit happy to see me.

It's not like he cared for these humans or what they thought about him but he thought they could at least try to be less obvious about their irritating intentions. He presumed they were all alike, Bodie looks at him like he was a rare specimen why they looked at him like they could tell I'm not from around here...

...which he's not.

Heading towards them he could discern the voice of a female who was talking to them. Her back was to him so she didn't notice his presence as he approached them.

"Why'd you wear that sweater again? Isn't it like the fifth time this month?"

Another girl that was equally backing him asked her looking peeved.

"It's because I bought it and I own a fucking washing machine, Dawn."

The first one that was blabbering earlier silenced the other one with that sentence. She returned her attention to the boys and carried on from where she stopped.

"I will never understand why the school has to start at seven in the fucking morning..."

One of the boys started laughing before she was done talking.

"...Like what do you think I am? A fucking roaster? Oh, cock a doodle doo..."

The other one joined the second one and they were both holding their sides in laughter.

"...More like fuck you and then teachers come in and are like..."

She took a step back and started snapping her fingers, almost bumping into Lex and stepping on his shoes in the process.

"...Come on you guys! You gotta pick up the energy! What's going on? Oh, I don't know Miss Ara maybe because it's fucking seven in the morning?! Like why are you expecting me to solve a triangle? Bitch you're built like a triangle why don't you do it?!"

She said with so much attitude and expected the whole lot of them to hoot with laughter or at least acknowledge the fact that she's good with words but their attention wasn't on her at all and it was pissing her off. All their gazes were fixated on whoever was behind her.

Emersyn was your typical attention seeker and usually the girl that all the boys know but can't touch. Jealous girls who crave that attention easily spread rumours around about her being their plaything. It's always like that and she's not exactly all smiley with little bitches who try to steal her sparkle.

She twirled around to address the girl who decided to wear a skirt so short that it was making the boy's mouth water but...

...that's a guy?!

It didn't take a second for her to start ogling him, herself.

"I'm sorry to interrupt you. I just wanted to ask if that seat beside you was taken."

Lex exercised all the phrases that Bodie had briefed him on. He needed to blend into this society and he was going to try his best to do so.

That would have been the case if the boys I addressed didn't change their curious gazes to those of people that felt threatened.

They did it again, they displayed all their emotions on their face.

"Hey, are you new here?"

Lex's gaze moved from the boys to the girl who had refused to put a decent distance between them. He nodded.

"What's your name? Can I have your phone number?"

Some hissing from some of the other girls in the classroom could be heard. Many of them knew Emersyn was shameless but didn't she think hitting on the new guy without knowing anything about him was risky? Some thought so was stupid, some thought she was a slut and it's what she does so they weren't too surprised, some wanted to get a good look at Lex's face and the others minding their own business.

Lex's lips formed a thin line. Bodie had given him a phone in the car this morning while they were on their way to school and told him that it was a vital way for them to communicate and he should keep it safe. He also told him about phone numbers and their significance.

All these things were not the problem, the problem was why she would ask him for his personal contact information. What did she want to do with it? Was she suspecting him already?

"Hey!"

The boy who was supposed to be his new seatmate got up with an annoyed face.

"Are you mute or something? Can't you see she's talking to you?"

Lex observed him and thought of what to say to pacify his anger. He wanted to blend in, not have an argument and he didn't want to end up saying something that would indicate that he was not one of them.

"Hey, is this fucker seriously ignoring me?"

Lex glanced at the vein throbbing in his forehead and all he could think about was how much blood was flowing in it. The boy lunged for his face with a clenched fist, Lex easily caught it and pushed him away but the boy flew back almost a meter and collided with the other boy in the adjacent locker.

Lex blinked, stunned and anxious.

That was not supposed to happen. He looked at his palm.

He had barely touched him, why did he go flying like that?
