Eve tried to catch herself, her hands flailing out to grab onto something, but she was moving too fast. With a sudden lurch, her footing gave way entirely and she began to slide down the steep incline.

Panic seized her as she felt herself hurtling toward the ground. The wind rushed past her ears as the trees blurred by in a dizzying flurry of green and brown. Her heart pounding, she tried desperately to slow her descent, clawing at the dirt and leaves as she passed them.

But it was no use. She was falling too fast, too far. The ground rushed up to meet her with a sickening thud, knocking the wind out of her lungs. Pain seared through her body as she tumbled head over heels down the rest of the slope, branches, and rocks tearing at her clothes and skin.
