Peter turned just in time to see Nova hurtling towards him, her body rolling uncontrollably down the forest floor. He quickly moved out of the way, narrowly avoiding a collision, and caught Nova's arm as she tumbled past him. Together, they both came to a stop, breathing heavily and trembling with fear and exhaustion.
But there was no time to rest. They had injured members of their group that needed help, and the monster was still out there, somewhere in the darkness. So they hoisted their wounded companions onto their backs and resumed their frantic sprint through the forest.
As Lue and her team wandered through the forest, the dense canopy of trees overhead cast a dappled shade on the forest floor. Shafts of sunlight pierced through the leaves, illuminating patches of moss and ferns that carpeted the ground beneath their feet. The air was cool and fresh, redolent of the fragrance of pine and damp earth.
