The Call

Part 17

The poisonous needle sting flew in the direction of Mao and it pierced Maxine's back.

"Ouchhh!" she shouted. It didn't really hurt but of course she had to be overacting so that Mao would worry about her.

"What happened? Are you okay?" the man asked.

"It's like something pierced my back, it hurts and I feel like I'm going to die," Maxine answered, slowly losing her energy.

Mao looked at her back and saw a red rash on it as if she had just been bitten by an insect. "Maybe an ant bit you in the back. Stop wearing backless because you're not inside the bar."

"But I'm going to die. Aren't you even worried about me?" asked Maxine.

"Max, no one dies from an ant bite. You're just too exaggerated," Mao replied.

Maxine looked at Yurena who was standing far away and smiling, she even waved at them. "Maybe she's bewitching me," she added, pointing at Yurena.

Mao scratched his head. "Tsk, who? Yurena? She's just weird but she's not a witch."

Mao took Maxine inside his office and laid her down. After a few minutes, the poison took effect. Maxine was shocked when she developed rashes all over her body. She panicked and she screamed in fear. Maxine is very conscious of her skin that's why she overreacted when she saw some rashes. For her, this incident can be considered disastrous.

Well, the poison of the Bobo fish is not really fatal, but the body of the one who gets hit by its sting will have rashes. And this is what happened to Maxine.

The girl was immediately taken to the emergency room where she was given treatment. She was crying all the time. And she was very scared although it wasn't that bad at all. Maybe this is what rich people are like, they are very weak and too sensitive.

"How is she, Doctor?" Mao asked.

"She's fine, probably she was just bitten by an insect and it was caused by an allergic reaction in her body. But overall, she's fine and there's nothing to worry about. This kind of mild poison heals on its own within two to three days. Even if it is not treated, it will automatically subside," the doctor explained.

"Why is it that if Maxine cried and screamed earlier it seems like her situation is dire? Everyone panicked and I thought she was on the verge of death?" Mao continuously asked.

"Maybe, she's overreacting, I guess. Or maybe people like her are not used to allergies and they don't know how to handle it correctly. But for now, there's nothing to worry about because Maxine is in good condition. All she needs to do is rest and relax herself. Also tell her to avoid scratching her rashes to prevent any skin complications," the doctor answered.

Mao returned to the room where Maxine was resting, she was still motionless due to the severe trauma she experienced. "How are you feeling? Why do you look like that? The doctor said that you are not seriously ill, so cheer up, you'll be fine."

"My body is getting weak and I feel like I won't be able to last much longer," she whispered, there is an unexplained weakness in her voice.

"This one is even crazier than Yurena," Mao muttered to himself. He didn't know whether to laugh or pity Maxine. "C'mon, your illness is just an allergy. Besides, the doctor said it goes away easily. Even if you don't treat it, it will subside in two or three days. You'll be okay."

"I won't be okay because Yurena is bewitching me. Earlier while I was sleeping, I dreamed of her. She was holding a voodoo doll and she was stabbing it with a needle while reciting a horrible chant. She wants to kill me because she doesn't want us to be happy," Maxine said, unable to hide her fear.

Mao just sighed and scratched her head. "Yurena is not a witch, she is a good person and would not do such a thing. What are these thoughts? Maybe it would be better if you rest and relax your mind. Thinking too much will not help you recover," Mao replied. He arranged his things and prepared to leave.

"And where are you going? Maybe you're going to see her?" Maxine asked when she saw Mao leaving the room.

"I'm going back to the office because the office hours aren't over yet. My meeting with investors is not yet finished," Mao answered.

"Go ahead, just don't let me know you're seeing that witch because I'm going to knock her out immediately, I'm serious!" Maxine added, but Mao didn't answer. He immediately left her in her room.
