Chapter 2: Church

Kevin decided to prepare to the best of his ability before entering a potential life-and-death encounter.

Kevin woke up the next day and chose violence. He started looking for any form of holy weapon that might help him survive his fated encounter.

Kevin's first stop was a local church called "Saint George." Although he wasn't a devout believer in God, he occasionally visited the church.

Hence, he was familiar with the priest at Saint George. The priest's name was father Henry.

Kevin's plan was to try and rope father Henry in or at least get a bottle of holy water.

Kevin headed inside the church, attended the morning sermon, and waited for the church to become completely desolate before approaching father Henry.

Kevin spoke, "Father, I need your help."

Henry replied, "Please take a seat and tell me your worries."

Kevin sat down next to Henry on a dark brown wooden bench.

Henry asked, "Go on."

Kevin spoke, "Father, recently, I have constantly been having night terrors. For some reason, they always start with me heading to the thirteenth floor at the dawn of midnight and encountering this scary shadowy thing."

Henry pondered for a second and replied, "Hmm, I think Kevin, you are stressed out due to no current job. You should try to relax more. Maybe that will help."

Kevin – "I felt the same way at first, but then I made the mistake of actually following my dream and exploring the 13th floor at midnight."

Henry asked, "Oh, did you actually encounter something? "

Kevin replied, " I went on that floor and got stuck on the elevator. Where I heard voices calling me to come out of the elevator."

Henry responded, "Your building's very old. I am sure the elevator getting stuck is just a coincidence, and it gave your brain a way to play tricks on you."

"There are no such things as ghosts, so don't worry so much."

Kevin asked, "Still, I am afraid of a what-if scenario, so I was wondering if you did be willing to accompany me tonight."

Henry replied, " I would love to go on a ghost hunt, but I can't cause I will be going out of town today."

Kevin spoke, "In that case can I purchase some holy water for protection."

Henry replied, "Of course."

Henry then got up and headed inside to fetch a bottle of holy water. Henry soon returned and handed over the bottle to Kevin.

Henry spoke, "Here, take it. There's no need to pay money for it."

Kevin asked, "Really?"

Henry replied, "Yeah, you need it more than me, plus I know you are probably low on cash."

Kevin asked, "Can I also borrow a couple of crosses."

Henry replied, "Sure, but don't end up harming them cause otherwise, you will have to pay for them."

Kevin assured, "No problem, I will take good care of them."

After Kevin left, Henry went into his study, took out a notebook, and started writing.

If someone stood behind Henry, they would see that Henry wrote Kevin's name and drew a red circle.

Meanwhile, Kevin headed to a nearby cafe to have breakfast. After ordering food, Kevin opened his system and started checking its current functions.

Kevin then took out his phone, opened a word doc, and started typing in the various details of each function.

1)Full body scan – Helps detect any hidden injuries that his body may have.

2)Environment scanner – Can help detect any entity from level one to five.

3)Equipment scanner – Helps scan and understand the characteristics of his equipment.

When Kevin discovered the Equipment function, he couldn't help but want to instantly check his new equipment but held back. After all, he was in public.

He tried to scan through the plastic bag but failed because his scanner level was too low, so he couldn't scan multiple items simultaneously. Kevin decided to be patient and waited till he headed back home before trying to scan the items again.

Finishing his breakfast, Adam got in a taxi and headed back home. When he got into his apartment, he emptied the plastic bag and started scanning his items.

After checking his items, Kevin was quite happy with his harvest. Any help was welcomed when facing ghosts.

Kevin then decided to take a notebook and head to the 13th floor to help draw a sketch of the passageway. He felt this could become critical information that helps determine his fate.

Although he had been to the 13th floor this morning, he wanted to write down the exact details of each exit as if the ghost had some sort of illusion ability to confuse him.

He needed to be as cautious as possible and better prepare for the unexpected. Otherwise, he would be playing with his life.

Kevin finished drawing the basic map and returned to his room to search and find information about his building.

If a ghost really did exist, then there must be a reason why someone became a ghost in the first place.

A name or any other form of info about the ghost could also be found online.

After browsing for an hour, Kevin needed clarification as there was no information online, not even a single article.

That meant there were two current possibilities: the crime on the 13th floor was covered up by the owner of the building to keep the building operational, or the ghost suddenly flew in from elsewhere.

Kevin could only find information now by asking his building security guard.
