A while later, "Hey! Are these seats here empty?" Rebecca at him.
They really came! Cross screamed in his mind. Still trying to remain calm. "Yes, it is," Cross nodded at them.
He's truly a weird one. Rebecca thought upon hearing Cross' casual response.
"Can we sit here if you don't mind?" Rebecca asked while forcing an amiable smile. 'Although he's a freak, he didn't seem like a bad person. Hopefully, I am right', Rebecca thought sneakily.
"Yes. Do so…" Cross replied, gesturing to them to sit on their own accord.
Rebecca smiled wryly. "I see, thanks!" She took the one on the left side of Cross' perspective. "Here Naomi," Rebecca said as she tapped the vacant seat next to her.
Cross was smiling. Using his fingers, he tried to brush up his hair. But, that didn't seem to attract the girls even a little bit.
"Uhm, you're that transferee guy in our class, right? In D-class," Rebecca straightly asked him. Cross remembered their faces too, they were indeed in the same class as him.
"That's right. Uhm, can I help you with something, dear beauties?" He asked.
Hearing him sound like a playboy, now Rebecca doubted whether it was the right decision to talk to this person or not, but she needed to persevere for Naomi's sake.
She smiled. "I knew it. I remembered your name is… C-Cross Williams, am I correct?" Rebecca's voice was stuttering.
"It's Cross Milliams, dear beauty," Cross corrected with a faint smile.
"Uh sorry, Cross Milliams… I see," she nodded.
Milliams? She never heard such a name in the city's upper families or even in the whole federation.
"By the way, my name is Rebecca Hughes." Rebecca voluntarily introduced herself as she extended her long slender arm.
No one could see Adam in his camouflage state except for Cross.
Cross wiped his hands with the tissue. "I see. Nice to meet you, Beauty Hughes," he replied as he took her hand.
He was about to kiss her hand, but she quickly pulled them back with a smile. Cross wasn't actually bothered by it.
"Aha-ha…" Rebecca laughed dryly and introduced the other girl beside her. "And this is Naomi Avery."
Cross slightly nodded his head. "Nice to meet you, Beauty Naomi." Nonetheless, how is the daughter of such a family in D-class only? Cross wondered.
"Uh-eh! N-Nice to meet you too." She looked flustered.
"….."
Cross' mouth became a short curve line. It was unusual to see someone in a high-status family be this flustered in front of a 'nobody'. Well, he believed they already knew that he wasn't from a great family unlike them, given his family name.
So, this could be the sign, right? She was flustered because of me?! That's a sign of affection, no?! Cross felt excited thinking about it.
He believed she was flustered because she was attracted to him.
Looking at Naomi's figure, she has braided light orange long hair and kind green eyes. She was a little shorter than him but had nice body proportions.
However, it seems a bucket of cold water was poured on him at Rebecca's next words, "Uh… please don't mind that. Naomi is just a shy type of person. She tends to act like that in front of someone she wasn't acquainted with for long, especially those of opposite gender in her age," Rebecca explained about Naomi's behavior.
"….."
"Uh, I see."
Cross' mouth became a short horizontal line. It was not what he expected. Regardless, as Adam stated, attraction comes in many forms. Though dejected, he tried not to show it. He noticed the girl named Naomi open her mouth.
"Uhm… p-please you don't need to add 'Beauty' in addressing my name. It just didn't sound good to me."
"He-he, you heard her, Cross," Rebecca grinned.
Eh? I thought girls liked flattering words. But if she doesn't like it, there's nothing I can do. "I see. If that's your wish, Naomi."
"Hey, do that to me, as well," Rebecca pointed to herself. She disliked Cross' flattery. To be honest, it sounds terrible.
Rebecca too?
"Uhm, if that is what you like, okay, Pretty Rebecca."
"Ugh!" Rebecca felt like she was hit by thunderbolts. "Aha-ha…" She forced a smile. "You don't need to add 'pretty' either. I mean, just call me Rebbeca." She hid her irritation. Rebecca felt like she would develop a migraine with this guy. He's totally a freak. She thought.
"Anyway, Cross, is it true that you don't have mana?" Rebecca raised an eyebrow.
Even Naomi was stunned by Rebecca's straightforward question. She knew Rebecca was just trying to comfort her. But, isn't it a bit too much? Look, everyone heard it. Around them, the other students looked at their table, waiting for Cross' response.
Cross stopped his gesture of bringing up another slice of chocolate cake into his mouth.
The two girls looked at him, anticipating that he felt insulted by that question. Although Rebecca felt a little guilty about her question, she could not take back what she had already spoken. Well, since Cross was just a nobody, everyone would eventually forget about it sooner or later.
Contrary to their expectations, "Yes, it is." That was a straight reply and there was no ounce of displeasure in him. He looked like it wasn't a big deal to him.
"Wow! He looked so calm with that. He's a total freak on another level!" Someone around said that.
"I knew it. This guy is a weirdo! Haha." Another student said that.
Cross glanced around him, wondering why the students around him were suddenly throwing insults at him. He could only frown slightly.
Suddenly, they heard clattering noises.
*Clang!*
"What was that?"
Everyone looked around, Cross too.
The noise came from the direction of the counter. When they looked there, they saw some students standing there — all with the look of surprise and bewilderment.
On the floor, cups, plates, spoon, fork, and a tray were scattered around along with scattered food and spilled drinks.
"It seems like there's a commotion there," Cross pointed out. A second after he said that, they heard someone speak in an arrogant voice. "Heh. Look girls, there's an eyesore from the 'Lyn' household."
A student with a pretty face and arrogant upbringing stopped in front of another pretty student with a familiar face.
