Chapter 7

The sound of music from inside the car with the light from the street lamps seemed to synchronize to create a tone in my silence.

Looking in the center mirror, I saw my aunt who was peacefully asleep. We didn't speak in the car. It's getting late and the music is so enjoyable to listen to.

Until we finally arrived at my aunt's house.

"This is the key to the door, please open it." She said.

"How do you carry her?"

"Easy, I've already carried her. It's just a bit difficult if you have to open the door too."

I took the key from her hand. Then quickly got out of the car and opened the front doors. Then I headed back to the car to help carry my aunt who was still half asleep.

After that, we brought her inside until we put her on her bed.

"If you want to have fun with her body, this is a perfect time."

"Shut up!" I felt dejavu.

"Hehe. Then I'll go home first. You take care of her, ok?"

"Yeah, have a good night."

Then she left, leaving us alone. I quickly locked the door, then walk to my room. But as I passed her room, I thought of her last words.

My lost memories seemed to surface again. Her statement made my night turn gray. I want to go to bed and reset what made me become strange like this.

My eyes were closed all night, but I couldn't sleep. This morning I decided to wake up early. Then prepare breakfast. To reduce my guilt.

Fried egg with sausage, a simple breakfast. I also know city people like to eat this in the morning. In my village, I usually eat corn along with whole wheat bread spread with butter.

Although I haven't eaten it for a long time, I don't miss it too much, because I've been eating it all the time. After all, I haven't enjoyed being a citizen for a year, so I want to enjoy more of what the citizens enjoy.

"Morning Joseph..."

"Morning auntie."

"What are you cooking?"

"Sausages. I put the fried egg on the table."

"My head still hurts, last night I really forced Mia to drink."

"Hehe, last night I saw you two like you were in a drinking competition."

"However, last night was the first time I went back to drinking at the bar. I usually drink at home with her or sometimes alone."

"Congratulations."

"You're weird. Hehehe. I will prepare coffee for us."

Our breakfast is complete.

We prayed, then started eating our morning meal together.

"Joseph, how's your thesis going?"

"Just the questionnaire and final data analysis. Luckily, Miss Mia helped me with the questionnaire."

"That's good. I'm glad your thesis will be finished. After graduation, where do you want to work?"

"I have no idea. I honestly haven't thought about it."

"That's important. You should know before you graduate."

"I'll think about it. Later."

"You are... it doesn't matter that you haven't thought about it now. But I want to say, I'll support whatever it is, as long as it's good for you."

"Don't act like my mom. It doesn't fit."

"Then what do I fit in with?"

"Be my girlfriend."

Gosh, a bad joke just came out of my mouth. I was sure she was going to make fun of it.

"Uh, Joseph... I think that's a bit difficult."

"Heh?" Oi-oi, I was just joking. How come her face is a bit red? Is this how innocent she is?

She became confused because of what I had just said.

"Sorry, I said an unpleasant word."

"Uh, it's okay. I know you were joking."

"No, I wasn't joking."

"Joseph..."

"I just said it at the wrong time. And the wrong place."

My mistake is repeated.

Then my aunt took my hand.

"Joseph... you are a good boy. I'm sure there's a good girl out there for you."

I knew I would be rejected completely.

*Sigh*

"My auntie is not fun. No wonder it's hard to get a boyfriend."

"How did the topic of conversation become like that!"

" Whew!" I mocked her while sticking out my tongue.

I ended up making her really angry. At least the awkwardness was gone. I'm such a coward.
