Spirit Summoning Magic

At this time, two figures were running around the training fields. One of them was Lyon Moria who ran at breakneck speed while the other one was Rick.

The rest of their classmates had already completed three laps. Naturally, the warriors were leading the run while the mages lagged behind but they still completed three laps.

Lyon had long completed three laps but he decided to run seven extra laps to show his admiration for Isabel. As for Rick, it was natural because he simply ran at a speed slower than a turtle.

The more the distance he ran, the rougher his breathing.

'F*ck Gelnar' Rick inwardly cursed as he clenched his teeth tightly as he forced himself to run.

Not only was he dead last, he was also far behind them.

Had it been two years ago, he would have completed three laps and even compete with the warriors in speed without sweat. However, after sleeping for about two years, his physical abilities had plummeted by a lot.

Even his hard-earned reaction speed was affected. He would need a lot of time to recover to his peak state.

Finally, after ten minutes, Rick had completed three laps while Lyon completed ten laps. Rick lay on the ground covered in sweat while panting for breath while Lyon just smiled as if he still had energy to spare a few more laps without sweating.

"Alright. Now, let's talk about your abilities. For the mages, raise your hand if you can already insta-cast spells" Isabel said as she turned her gaze towards the students in robes.

About 9 mages raised their hands. In the first section, there were a total of 28 students. 13 of them were aspiring mages while the rest were aspiring warriors.

Only four of them hadn't raised their hands. They were commoners who hadn't had the chance to study magic but were talented enough to get enrolled in Hakono Academy.

Among the mages who raised their hands, only Rick belonged to the commoner group while the rest were noble scions and relatives of powerful mages.

"Alright. Today, we will be having sparring matches. Show me your abilities. For those who didn't raise their hands, you have the option to participate or to just observe" Isabel said as she turned her gaze towards the commoner mages.

The commoners looked at each other before they shook their heads at the same time.

"Teacher, we have decided to observe the matches for now" one of the commoners said.

"Hmph. Cowardly commoners" Luke said with a mocking tone.

The commoners just lowered their heads without bothering to fight back in a verbal battle. They knew better than to offend a noble.

'Wow, to think that I'd actually see arrogant young masters in action on the first day of school, as expected of a magical world' Rick thought to himself with an amused expression on his face.

Back in his previous world, he had read plenty of novels with arrogant young masters waiting for the MCs to beat them up but he hadn't encountered at least one of them.

He only went to public schools while the arrogant young masters in his previous world went to prestigious schools, preventing him from seeing them in action.

Now, in a magical world where academies accept students regardless of their social status, he finally had the chance to see their routine in their natural habitat.

Suddenly, a box made of cardboard appeared on Isabel's hands out of nowhere. The commoners were surprised while the noble children simply looked at the commoners as if they were looking at monkeys.

As noble descendants, they were not unfamiliar with spatial rings.

Among the commoners group, only Rick didn't have a surprised expression on his face. After all, he already wielded a spatial ring back then. As a sealer with spatial affinity, he can even create one on his own, that is of course if he obtains the method to do so.

"Inside this box are blank pieces of paper. Everyone, please write your names on the pieces of paper" Isabel said as she handed over one piece of paper for each student and put them inside the box.

"The rules of the sparring matches are simple. Just show the best of your abilities but you are not in any way allowed to kill your opponent nor permanently maim your opponent. Anyone who disobeys the rules will be expelled from the academy" Isabel said as an icy cold aura flared up around her as she looked at the students with a terrifying gaze.

Beads of sweat poured down from the students as they looked at her with fear in their eyes. Even Lyon had a terrified look on his face.

She then retracted her aura and let out an innocent smile. Only then did the students continue their breaths. She then secretly stole a glance at Lyon to see his reaction

At first, Lyon had a terrified expression on his face but it quickly turned into a frown as his eyes lit up in determination even before she retracted her aura. She was astonished at Lyon's expression but she didn't show it in her face.

"Let's begin the sparring matches." Isabel said.

She then chose two pieces of paper from inside the box and read them out loud.

"Edwin and Gil Traumm, step forward" Isabel said as she looked at Edwin and Gil.

The two then stepped forward and faced each other as they scrutinized each other.

They didn't bother to taunt each other with words and only exchanged looks before they nodded at each other at the same time.

"Begin!" Isabel announced the start of the battle.

"[Spirit Summon: Underworld Cat]"

"Meow!"

Suddenly, a black hairy kitten appeared in front of Edwin as it let out a cute high-pitched meow.

"Summoning Magic!" Rick exclaimed as he looked at Edwin.

In this world, aside from the usual spells that mages use for battle, there are different types of magic.

Warrior magic enhances physical attributes without the need for elements. People with low affinity for their corresponding elements typically choose the warrior route.

Aside from warrior magic, there is Sealing magic which allows the users to seal objects, living things, and other objects.

Summoning magic is a type of magic that allows the user to communicate with the living beings of the spirit world. The user must first form a summoning contract with a spirit.

The contract would allow the spirit to take on a physical form, allowing them to be summoned in this world and fight for the user.

Spirit Summoners can also merge with the summoned spirits and take on the battle spirit form, drastically increasing the user's magical abilities.
