A Way Out

I am at a crossroads in my life. And it's become really tough to choose one part. 'I would wish to pause for a moment and ease out,' I thought.

That's when Douard had called me ten times already.

"Alene! Are you there?" Saya snapped me to senses.

William and Saya looked tense. I was a typical city girl with a knack of exploration and ruin hunting, but now my very own life has gone movie-course. 'It's not true, right? It can't be?' I thought.

"Professor, how… how did you always know about that all and not even once revealed to me about it?" I asked.

"I… it's upsetting to tell you now suddenly but, it's true and from what I think, Frank is your chosen mate." He answered.

"What? what is that?" Saya exclaimed.

"Its partner is already chosen when you have a wolf inside you. Alene's wolf also appears with a partner of its very own." Douard added.

Yeah. It was the fact, but what Betty said earlier looked doubtful.

"Douard! What do you mean by that? I am a hybrid. Am I a vampire or a werewolf?" I asked.

"Not one of them, but could be both, as you are an unusual one. And taking both is unsafe when two alternate blood inside you will battle for their very own vessel!" Douard's face grimaced as he said that.

William, who was holding without a word, looked serious. Saya had previously told me he turned into our exploratory team member for my sake. He loved me secretly. I feel terrible for him.

Well, now I am a mate, a Luna of Alpha Frank. Frank proposed to me and his eyes and scent both hypnotized me. His gaze and heartbeat make me restless.

But what is this unexpected complication in my path of first love? I am clear it's leading to a thorny one. Besides, anything happens. It's my fate and I can't argue with it.

"Will I die when I turn 18?" I asked, troubled.

"That I don't know." Douard said.

Frank is Alpha of his pack and it's complicated for him even to move against his pack for me. It's awfully baffling to realize life led me to this crossroad.

(Frank's POV)

Next morning.

In the Fire Blood pack of Wolveshire Stronghold.

'I didn't mean to leave you like that, but it's necessary to learn the truth. Alene, please bear with it,' I thought.

That's when Ned appeared behind.

"Frank, do you realize? In what situation are we now?" Ned raised his tone.

He is very mature, and his opinion is a lifeline for the pack's security. Fire Blood pack is the enemy of vampires for many generations. It was a fight in the past which led to our pact to break and start an unusually crucial situation in between.

"Jake and his beta members will oppose, knowing Alene has vampire blood in her. Jake always sought for even the slightest of a chance of going against you and now you offer it willingly." Ned yelled at me as if he was my mother.

"Betty, where is Martha? Call her here!"

"Humph! OK. Just a minute."

She is my sparring partner and we know each other closely. But I have withheld a secret from her.

She didn't like being avoided. But indeed a slim chance of finding more about hybrids is crucial.

My father once mentioned before his death that vampire blood is not only immortal but it can still fuse with werewolf blood. Once one of werewolf 's forefathers tried and his son succeeded in doing that. Those times were when vampires and werewolf lived with laws and unbreached pact. Werewolf forefather accomplished so as he allied to one of the vampire pure blood.

And Martha knows better about this myth. She learned about that from her mother. It's still strange to her and us.

Martha entered the room a few moments later.

"You called me Frank?" Martha entered, confused.

"Is there a way to remove vampire blood within a werewolf's body with no risk?" I asked.

"Martha, it's not possible, right?" Betty roughed at Martha.

"What is it? Who is this about? Anything serious." Martha asked, uncertain.

"Martha, my mate, which I told yesterday in the morning. It's about her. So, please."

"How is it... Oh! which I know? But what is going on?" she asked, confused.

"She is a hybrid. From werewolf mother and vampire pure blood father." Ned said.

"What? How? Where is she? It's unsafe to stroll without safety." She panicked.

She had a different concern for this matter.

Vampires usually appear near the border of our area and cause ruckus and even fights break out. Alene's tent is near a river, opposite to the vampire-werewolf border. They do not declare the pact officially invalid, but vampires are crossing the line. Everyone in the pack knows that a war is inevitable.

.........

Three centuries ago, the Wolveshire Strongholds Geld, a powerful Alpha of Fire Blood pack of werewolf and Mortham Citadel's Timothy, a pure blood vampire of the Silk Moon family, were allies.

One day, Timothy's sister Matilda came to visit him at Mortham Citadel. She lived faraway on an island, secluded from the outside world. Vampires there are extremely vicious and didn't like werewolf, not even in imaginations.

Geld and Timothy are doing mock battles in the backyard training ground of Timothy's castle, and Matilda saw very muscular Geld fighting Timothy on equal footing and was leading.

"Timothy, blow him in the ass." She shouted.

"Matilda! When did you arrive here?" Timothy punned her.

They quit fighting and sat at the counter for a drink. Matilda, with ice-blue eyes and blond hair, looked terrific and elegant.

"I didn't know you were regressing."

"It's not like I am born-combatant like someone."

"Hahahaha"

Geld couldn't hold his giggle and exploded. Matilda's eyes narrowed.

She didn't like him and even more; he was buddies with Timothy. It was disgraceful for a vampire to have a werewolf friend instead hunt them and suck their blood.

"Humph," she faced another way.

"Geld! She is my cousin from a faraway island of vampire royals. We learned together, but her ability surpassed her age and finished soon from the institute. When we were ranking, she was a full-fledged royal champion and strategist already." Timothy said.

"Hmmm…" Geld groaned.

"Elegant, but still treacherous. But it's different, too." He said.

"What's different? You heard correctly. I am deadly. So, fear me." She mocked.

Time flew by and next time in the backyard, Geld met Matilda and commended her for her eyes and how special her hair color was. She smiled.

"Won't you despise me seeing that I murdered your kind?" She asked.

"Well, Timothy is my buddy and enmity is just far-fetched for our bond." He said.

"Ooh!" Matilda groaned.

Their meetings lasted longer. It is obvious what is happening.

One day, they are roaming around training grounds.

Timothy saw them kissing accidentally.

"Whom are you guys trying to fool, huh? No one can claim you are rivals, seeking to slay each other." He said.

Geld's wolf, who was bracing for getting a mate, reacted to Matilda from the very first encounter. Matilda, too, fell for his flaming red eyes and red hair. It felt magical for her, and her vampire felt a certain bond with him. But Timothy has an uncertain feeling.

Geld and Matilda shied when Timothy caught them.

"Do you know your father won't approve of this?" Timothy said.

Matilda's eyes sunk in despair, and her face moped when she snapped out in reality.

She realized that their love and bond were nothing but sandcastles for her father. But…

"It's a matter of time, he will change his opinion with time." she said.

"With time, you say. It won't happen. He will start a war with the entirety of Wolveshire if he learns about this."

"We will run away and hide." Geld intervened.

"You can't!" Timothy shouted.

Timothy knew Matilda's father better than anyone. Cruelty to no mercy, he didn't even let go of their own member if they broke the order.

Five months later, rumor reached Matilda's father.

A letter arrived from Hugo, vampire royal, father of Matilda, with warning and declaration of Citadel's merging with the nearest castle of the vampire count Drake. Timothy frowned when he read it. He immediately went to Geld.

Matilda was pregnant. He went to caution them, but Hugo's army besieged the Fire Blood pack home even before that. Fortunately, Matilda already escaped with Geld and hid near the border of vampire and werewolf territory.

Hugo searched everywhere but failed to find them. He tortured Timothy to get their hideout, but he remained silent.

Hugo had killed Timothy's member ruthlessly before. He loathed that and helped Geld. Hugo got anxious and spread news of burning him alive. One of his vampire allies brought that news secretly to Geld.

Geld wanted to free his friend and asked Matilda to remain hidden until he returned and left. Matilda knew for certain he was going to die but couldn't avoid it, even though. Her trembling hands gripped her heart and remained there.

Geld reached where Timothy was, hands tied up on the pole. He struggled to loosen him, but Hugo's members charged and trapped him up instead.

Hugo arrived there. His eyes searched Matilda, but she was nowhere.

"Where is Matilda?" He grabbed Geld's collar.

"She is where she should be. Somewhere safe from you." Geld said.

Hugo's anger boiled up, but his mother, Aria, calmed him down. She had secretly sent spies to look for Matilda, and they returned with her efficiently.

Hugo's eyes lit up. He saw her fine, but his face soured when he noticed a swollen belly.

"Burn her!" she ordered.

Hugo didn't expect that. Hugo's eyes became broad.

"What? Why?" he panicked.

But he couldn't do anything. His mother was stronger than him and anyone present there.

Timothy and Geld watched that happen helplessly.

Matilda got burned down with the innocent baby inside. Timothy and Geld screamed in despair.

But Timothy asked Geld to transform and drink his blood. It shocked him, but did, anyway.

It surprised Hugo for what they were trying to work out, but Aria knew about that and struggled to avoid them.

Too late.

Geld drank blood and his body transformed. Geld's soul now inherited the vampire unexpectedly, and his wolf fused but was still incomplete.

Both of them charged at her, loosening themselves.

Hugo's members, who were staying still, struck them and blocked them.

Aria knew killing them now would be tough.

She started the blood entanglement ritual hurriedly, but Matilda's soul interfered. Aria frowned, being interrupted.

In that moment, Timothy threw himself into the encircling, struggling to save Geld.

But sadly, they failed their attempt. Aria sealed their soul and blood right there.

Hugo's eyes grew wide in dismay.

"Never ever again repeat such a crime. I forbid it as sin and punishment will be an eternal seal like this one. Is it clear?" Aria shouted towards vampires present there.

Everyone remained mute, swallowing. They gulped their ego, and fear reigned them. All bowed down. Hugo and her mother left the place clenching hands in losing Matilda for strangers and truly their own kin didn't support.

Later, werewolves from Wolveshire arrived, but they were late. Everything happened fast before they could react.

And their long-lasting enmity started growing even deeper.
