"Martha! Martha!" Betty shook Martha's shoulder.
"Huh?! Yes. Sorry I got lost in thought." Martha said as she snapped into reality.
"You know how to remove vampire blood's effect from the body, right?" Ned asked.
I looked at her with expectation, but what she said broke my hopes and plunged me into an abyss of sadness.
"No. What I know from hearsay, which my mother used to tell me, is that when vampire blood gets mixed into werewolf. When that happens the werewolf dies, but mother also said seal can affect its time of merge. It only delays, but eventually any stimulus will trigger and cause death at last."
I didn't expect her words to be this disastrous. Alene is my mate and when one doesn't get a mate or becomes apart from, grief will eventually kill those. How will I….? Wait, but Alene is already turning 18. What will happen? She looked fine and showed no signs of becoming rogue.
I grabbed Martha's shoulders and asked, "Is there no way? Alene is a hybrid, but her body shows no sign of merging. She won't die, right?"
"I.. can't… can't say for sure until I see her in person. If her body is fine looking, then some seal is preventing the fusion." She said,
Her face showed clearly that such a thing was totally impossible. It was false hope, but just, just a glimmer of hope is what I needed.
"OK. I will take you to her. And anything you remember which you might have forgotten, like anything related." I said desperately.
She just shook her head.
"Wow! Now we will waste our time on this. Great!" Betty sneered.
"Betty, look after the pack for a while. We will come back soon. Let's go, Ned." I said with urgency.
At the same time we walked out of the pack house, Jake came back from hunting. With his two beta members, he is standing blood-stained from the hunt.
"Oh! Jake, take care of the pack. We'll be out for a while."
"Okay! By the way, is it near the border river?" Jake asked with a sly smile.
"Yes!"
"I smelled vampires around there. Take care and don't get caught." He said, waving his bloody hands.
"Vampires?"
"Martha! let's hurry" I raced down the woods.
Ned and Martha followed silently. It was their first time seeing a hybrid alive up to the age of 18 and with no sign of going rogue.
Different thoughts started rampaging in my mind. Jake said he sensed vampires. If they get near there, Alene is in danger. I have to hurry. But Douard is there. Maybe he will sense vampires and escape. It must go that way, otherwise. It will be troublesome.
After a few dashes, we reached the river side. Camps appeared in sight on some steps and everything looked fine. Douard saw us from afar and waved hands towards us.
Martha looked at me.
"Yes! He is a werewolf-human child but doesn't have a wolf. Only heightened senses and strength."
"How peculiar and how did he remain unnoticed till now from vampires?" She said, surprised.
"Bring Alene here!" Ned shouted.
Douard nodded and went inside the tent.
She looked very sad and upset. It was too hard for her to get used to being around werewolf and things like vampires because until now she was away from such things.
We sat down on a fallen tree outside by the river and Martha started checking Alene.
Douard looked anxious. He looked at me with concerned eyes.
"It will be alright after what Martha finds. We should be able to solve a problem." I assured him.
But inside, I was as impatient as him. I looked at Martha and Alene. She seemed very confused and lost.
"There is no vampire in me, right?" Alene asked.
But what Martha said shocked everyone.
"She is not just a hybrid but a vessel for carrying a seal of catastrophe."
Martha has an exceptional ability to check one's physical and spiritual status. But what she said baffled us.
"What? What is that?" I said, very confused.
"It's that she will give birth to catastrophe." Ned said.
Douard fell to the ground.
"this… this can't be. What Emerald tried to avoid, happened?" he muttered.
"Emerald?!" Ned was shocked.
"Which Emerald are you talking about? Is it about 40 years ago?" he asked.
"How do you….. It's just that I didn't reveal it to you." Douard sulked.
"What is it?"
"Emerald and Victor are Alene's parents." Douard said.
"Victor was a vampire count and Emerald was a werewolf. If Alene is a hybrid of them…" Ned said.
He got lost in thought then.
"She is born of werewolf and vampire!" Martha exclaimed.
She again hastily checked Alene and backed down.
"What is it?" I asked.
"She is fine but…"
"But… but what?" I asked.
I looked towards Alene. It broke her to pieces every time a heartbreaking news came to her.
Approaching her, I stroked her forehead, flipping hair around her eyes aside.
"There must be a way.." I assured her.
