Trapped Inside

"Guess what I have next? My favorite subject." Tyler said sarcastically. "History?" I say, smiling. "It's so hard... I never remember any of the names. And to be real, when are ever going to need to know why the Monsters and the whatnot formed an alliance?" Tyler whined. Children chatter and are gathering in groups around the hallway. Some were making their way towards classrooms, but others were just standing and talking. "At least you're not stuck with Professor Lewis. I swear, the only things he says nowadays are how great his old 'young' days were. And here I am, doubting whether he even had those." "Rose Theodore Ferncil?" A voice behind us says.

"Yes, that's me..." I say in an unsure voice. "I'm afraid your father has been poisoned, and we have to get you into our immediate protection." "What?!" I ask, so surprised that I almost drop all the books that I have in my hand. I am completely fine and happy in school, and some creepy lady comes and tells me that my father has been poisoned?! What is happening?

~------~

"Please... Not Rose. You have me. She's innocent. She has nothing to do with this." The woman said in a hoarse voice, taking ragged breaths in between. "She may be innocent. You may be too. But your husband isn't." A deeper voice said. "Frenade. Please. No, this is not you. Choose the right side. Please." The woman pleads again and again, but Frenade ignores her. At last, Frenade says, "Valencia, please stop. You don't understand. I'm a distant descendant of the boy whose family got killed in the war. I swore revenge, I have to abide my promise." Valencia stops talking, but her sobs echo around the room.

With one last look at Valencia, Frenade pushes her into a dark room, Valencia screams. When her eyes adjust to the room, she gasps through her tears. "Rose?!"

~------~

I can't believe my eyes. My mom? "Mom!" I shout out, realizing how many tears are on my face. I get up from the worn-out chair I was sitting on, and rush to my mother, wrapping her in a big hug. "Rose! Thank god you're okay." I hear the door close behind us, but I don't care. I had to tell my mother something.

"Mom, we're trapped. A lady came to my school, she told me dad was poisoned, told me that I needed protection. They trapped me in this dark room. Mom, help!" I break down in tears. What if I never see my father again? Or Tyler? Or anyone?

"Everything is going to be okay. Your father was poisoned, but he is much better now. Don't worry. We'll find a way out of this terrible place. "

The door bursts open, and my mother immediately steps in front of me, but there is only a boy standing in the door. An achingly familiar boy, in fact. "Tyler?!" I whisper. Tyler keeps his index on his mouth, "Shh." He comes in and closes the door behind him. I notice him carrying two trays of food in his hands. "I'm supposed to be giving food to you both, but I've found a way to escape. I have a plan." Tyler says, but I take a moment to process it. "How are you here right now?!" I ask, surprised. "Never mind that... So you both need to..." He tells his plan carefully and fast, then he leaves the room.

My mother and I look at each other one last time, and then follow him out, each taking a separate path. We may have hope!
