The Beginning of an Ending

Second floor, third room to the right, is the only thing ringing in my mind right now. Once I leave the dark room, I turn right, then left just like Tyler said. But, I quickly hid behind a wall, seeing the line of people waiting for the elevator. Going and standing in that line would be worse than shouting 'I'm going to escape!' out loud. I change plans, I turn back, pass the dark room, but keep going left like Tyler said, until I reach a large board saying 'Stairs- In Case of Emergency'.

I run down the stairs like I've never before, two steps at a time, soon to become three. If my mother was here, she would've shouted at me and asked me to be more careful. A wave of worry splashes me again. What if my mother didn't get out? What if they caught her? So absorbed in my thoughts, I almost dash my head to the door, but I stop myself at the last second. There is a large board saying 'Second Floor' above me. Almost there, I tell myself.

I stop in front of the third room, and see the guard sitting in the chair in front of the door drugged, and I sigh. My mother did the job, but where is she? She was supposed to be right here, waiting for me! I shake my new thoughts of doubt away, and take out the key I so-carefully kept in my pocket. Quickly, but quietly, I open the door. The room is dark, like mine, but the person in the middle is gagged, and his hands bound by ropes. "Dad!" I shout, running to him after I close the door behind me. Dad tries to shout, but the gags that bound his mouth stop him. I try breaking open the ropes, but they are too tight. Frantically, I looked around for something sharp, something to cut these ropes.

Then, I find it- a small, slightly rusted nail in the corner of the room that seemed and looked sharp enough to cut the rope. I take it carefully, and cut the ropes bounding dad's hands, legs and the rope gagging him. Dad gasps for breath, and I hug him as he hugs me back. Happiness fills my whole body. I take a deep breath, and think- We're going to be okay. But it didn't last for long, as someone crashed through the door, closing it quickly afterwards. "Mom!" I shout. My mom is panting. "Val?" My father asks, after recovering. "They know we're here. I mean I've locked the door, but it is just a matter of time before they break the door open. We need to move. And fast." The end has just started, I realize.
