Chapter 3

It's break time and Bella and Lilah are still squabbling.

I roll my eyes at the two as Lilah insults Bella again. While they are arguing about nothing in particular, something strange happened.

I hear someone scream.

Turning, I look around the cafeteria but nothing seems out of the ordinary, so I just ignored it thinking that someone is just playing around.

Not a minute later I heard the screaming again but this time louder. I got up from my seat to find who is screaming. " Where are you going?" Lilah asked. "Is something wrong?" Bella questions while looking at me."Did you hear screaming?" I asked, wondering if I'm going crazy. "What screa-" Bella was stopped by the screaming again.

The both of them shot up from their seats and looked around. Then they did something bizarre. They sniffed the air and whispered, "Blood."

They look at each other with wide eyes. I tilted my head in confusion and that's when a metallic smell hit my nose.

"Come." I demanded and they followed right behind me. I followed the smell to the science room on the third floor. When we walked in, I saw three guys beating the crap out of someone on the floor.

"Didn't I tell you to stay out of my way?" one guy who I recognise as James.

James is tall with blonde hair, brown eyes and freckles. The other was Brandon who was ginger, blue eyes and is at an average height. The last guy was Chad who has chestnut brown hair, green eyes and freckles. He is slightly taller than Brandon.

"I'm sorry!" the figure on the floor cried out as James kicks him in the back, causing him to scream again. "You need to learn to obey people who are better than you." Brandon barked at him. Yeah, when we tell you to do something, you do it stupid Warlock!" Chad screamed at him kicking him in the ribs.

That's when I lost my temper. "STOP!" I yelled. My voice echoed through the room and the windows shake. The girls took a step back because of my sudden out burst. " Get the hell away from him before I beat you half to death!" I yelled the last part of my warning.

They backed away and ran out of the classroom. "That's what I thought." I said as I walk up to the boy on the floor that is curled into a ball covering his head. "Hello." I said but he did nothing but flinch at my voice." I'm not going to hurt you.” I wait for his reaction, hoping it’s not flinching again. He moved his hands that covered his head so that I could see his face.

His skin is a smooth cream colour that was covered in bruises. His light purple coloured eyes, are red from crying. He was still covering his head slightly just in case I tried to hit him.

Why would anyone ever hit such a beautiful being?

His cute button nose is red and has a little blood coming from it. His short, black hair with dark purple highlights is messy but still adorable, clinging to his sweaty head. His pink lips are quivering and has blood around it.

He is wearing a black top that has a crescent moon on it. His jacket has stitches on it as part of the the design. He is wearing black jeans with the same stitching design on it. His shoes are Nike with purple on it. His short nails painted dark purple but black on his middle fingers.

"Can you move?" I asked concerned if he can walk on his own. "I don't know" his voice is soft, melodic and timid. "Can you try?" I urged, not wanting to touch him in fear of causing him pain. He nodded his head.

The boy held his hand over the side of his rib cage and the other to help himself up by using the table. Not a moment after he stood up he cried out and fell again. Before he could hit the ground I caught him. "I guess that's a no then." Lilah whispered to Bella. He whimper as I lift him up and carry him in my arms.

I carried him to the nurses office and Lilah open the door for me. The nurse was on call with someone while laughing. " Oh, girl I have to call you back but tell Keisha to save some wine for me," she said, then hung up.

"Can I help you?" she asked completely ignoring the boy bleeding in my arms. "No, we came to see if you had a proper breakfast, lady." Bella sassed. " He needs help." I said look down at the boy and back at the nurse. I can feel him shaking due to the pain he is in.

"Ok, what's wrong with him?" she said in a way that made her sound like she was programmed to say that. " He was beaten to a bloody pulp, that’s what wrong with him." Lilah said bluntly.

I snapped my head in her direction and gave her a look that said, “Now is not the time."She mumbled, "I'm sorry." She casts her eyes down to the floor, embarrassed of her actions.

"Bring him over here.” the nurse demanded while pointing to the couch. I walked over to put him down but he held unto my jacket with a death grip.

The violet eyed boy’s hand quivers.

I look down shocked and confused as to why he did that. " Please... please don't leave," he begged, shaking vigorously. "Ok" I said softly afraid that I might scare him.

"Where do you feel the most pain?" the nurse asked him. " My r-ribs," he stuttered, eyebrows pinched together in pain. She pressed down on it to feel if they are damaged.

He cries out and screams in agony, "OW! OW! OW! OW! Stop please!" He clutched my jacket tightly due to pain. I slapped her hand away. "STOP YOU'RE HURTING HIM!" I snapped at her.

She jumped at the tone of my voice. "His ribs are broken, he might need to go to the hospital". "No, no, no hospital" He pleaded. "It might take a couple of weeks or months to heal," she told him. "Or a couple hours based on the fact that he's not human," Bella whispered to Lilah.

Not human?

Wait. "How did I hear that?" I asked myself.

They're standing at the opposite side of the room.

Better question, "HOW THE ACTUAL FUCK COULD I SMELL BLOOD?!!" I interrogated myself. There is no logical explanation for how a human being can smell blood that is not in front of them and a lot of it for the smell to be that strong.

That's a question for later, my head is starting to hurt.

"He could stay here till school ends," the nurse suggested licking her lips. I just noticed that she has fangs too. "No!" That's the first time he yelled since I found him. He was crying loudly but not yelling. " I'm sorry... just please don't leave me with her," he begged lowering his voice as he spoke to me.

"I think I can keep him safe," the nurse pushed me to leave him with her, staring at him with intense hunger. "I think I can take care of him" I don't know why but I feel an attachment with him. I was ready to kill anyone who even thought about raising a hand at him. It's how I feel for the girls.

Platonically, of course.

She sighed in disappointment at my answer for some reason, that made me hold onto him tighter. He hissed in pain. "I'm sorry. " I felt a bit guilty, if I didn’t hesitate earlier then maybe this wouldn’t have happened to him.

"I can give him some pain killers but unless he goes to the hospital that's the most I could do for him," she suggested but her words did not sound even the slightest bit sincere."Do you want pain meds?" I asked. "Yes please," he whimpered from slightly shifting his body.

I nodded to the nurse and she went to the cupboard and brought back a pills bottle and a bottle of water. He tried to reach to get the but winced, pulling his hand back around his ribs. " I'll take them," I told her and she gave them to me. I sat down on the couch so that I would not have to worry about dropping him.

"Open your mouth," I said. He looks at me with his beautiful violet eyes and slowly opened his mouth. I dropped the pills in,one after the other." Do you want water?" I asked. He nodded his head because he was swallowing the pills then made a "bleh" sound because of the bitterness.

He parted his lips and opened the cap and I put the bottle to his lips.

He started drinking more than half then pushed the bottle away with his mouth. Water dripped from the corner of his mouth but it didn't bother him so it certainly doesn’t bother me.

I moved the bottle away from his lips as he panted. "Thanks" he said. " No problem." My lips pulls into a smile.

“Okay, if that's it, you can leave now," the nurse said in a bored tone. "I have work to do," she adds going behind her desk. The nurse picks up the phone, dialling a number with haste.

Bella laughed at her "Oh you mean, gossiping with you friends and told Keisha ‘Save some wine for you’.” She made air quotes with her fingers. "I wonder what, Head Master Ray would think about you using the school phone to gossip with your friends" Lilah threatens, in a thoughtful voice.

The nurse glares at the girls, aggressively slamming the phone down, causing it to break and I take that as my cue to leave." We will be going now." I said putting my arms under him again, picking him up. As we leave Bella flips the nurse off and Lilah giggled.

"What's your name?" I asked the boy. "Alexander Curse," he whispered as if in shame of his name. “Alexander," I repeated, my voice barely above a whisper. He flinched as his name rolled of my tongue. "May I call you Alex?" I asked politely. "Sure?" He answered, with uncertainty, as if he doesn’t know how to interact with others.

Or maybe no one has ever gave him a nickname. But that can’t be it, surely family members have called him pet names before.

I don’t know what but something about this boy makes me feel unsettled. Not unsettled as in, I think I’m in danger but unsettled like there is something he’s not saying.

"Well, Alex, we were going to my place later but we can go now because we have math next. Do you want me to take you home or do you want to come with us?" I asked. " Can I come with you?" he asked without even thinking. My eyebrows furrow questioningly. "Sure." I replied

"Do you have a car?" I asked. He nodded. "Good because my motorcycle can't take all of us" I said walking to the parking lot. "Lilah take my keys but if you crash my baby you better hope you don't survive either." I threaten, narrowing my eyes. She gulped, laughing nervously. "Bella do you have car?" I asked.

"Yes but I came with a friend so who will I go with?" She asked looking between us.
