Thousands of feet up in the sky, Samara was standing in the air above the upcoming wave of monsters.
Hours ago, she didn't intervene as there were only a small number of monsters that the defenders could easily defend themselves from. Luckily, there are no casualties except for a few injuries.
In the view, the second wave of monsters has come, filled with thousands upon thousands of monsters marching towards the walls of the city. They roared and screeched with bloodthirsty eyes, eager to taste the blood of the humans behind the walls.
Sometimes, bird-like monsters attacked Samara. Every time that happened, she would simply swing her sword, bisecting the monsters before they could approach a kilometer near her.
However, Samara knew how useless this was.
Even if she killed one hundred, one thousand, ten thousand, or hundred thousand monsters like these, it would be useless. Two million monsters were equally dangerous for the people of the city. But she would have drained most of her strength.
No, her task here was to kill the strongest monsters. A-rank monsters. Once she killed the monsters that could threaten the city walls, she could spend her remaining strength in the small fries.
Fortunately, she did not need too much time to find the first one.
Three kilometers away, he saw a large tiger-like monster standing over a rock, its size was about larger than the largest Truck. The tiger roared angrily to the sky, displaying its fury and for blood.
Just a glance was enough for Samara to detect its strength.
Samara's eyes narrowed. She shook off the blood on her sword and kicked the air.
Then, she appeared just above the tiger in the next instant.
"Fall..." With an ice-cold tone, her sword slashed down.
*Boom!*
The sword slash crashed against the ground. Powerful mana waves exploded in the surroundings, killing all the monsters nearby. Just that sword slash was enough to create a five-hundred-meters-long crevice on the ground!
But...
"How unexpected. To think The Queen's royal guard herself would appear so far away from the capital." A voice spoke from the ground.
A black-dressed man appeared in Samara's sight. He was holding a narrow long sword while defending the tiger-like monster from the attack.
And the man's strange voice tone. It gave off a Joker vibe.
Yes.
It is the same guy that investigates the missing target on the Slave Traders' wagons with his partner. The same place where Moo first saved Gracie from.
As the man defends from Samara's sword like it was nothing...
Then, something even more unexpected happened.
The tiger kneeled down on the ground and growled submissively to the black-dressed man. When the man nodded, the tiger stood up and ran away.
Samara was surprised. The scene of an A-rank monster bowing to a human was enough to give her too many things to think about.
"Who are you?" Samara asked.
"You don't need to know," The black-dressed men chuckled, "You only need to know that the reason I'm here is to stop you from interfering with our boss' plan."
"Boss?" Hearing his words, Samara can't help but feel surprised. "Are you telling me that this disaster was caused by someone?"
"What do you think?" The black dressed men tilted his head, "Okay, you don't need to know too much. Are you going to fight or not?"
"Hmph!" Samara snorted before a strong sword intent surged out of her body, charging towards the black-dressed man.
But the black-dressed man laughed. With a wave of his sword, a slash was created that seemed to cut reality itself and easily dissipating the sword's intent completely.
The next second, both swords collided in an earth-shattering clash.
Just like that, the fight between two Demigods started.
———
Meanwhile, the second wave of monsters arrived at the walls of the city, and unfortunately, there was not a Demigod to stop the strongest monsters from attacking.
The first monsters that attacked the city were the flying monsters.
Pigeons, eagles, vultures, nightingales, hawks, bees, flies, and many other kinds of birds and insects charged towards the humans on the walls.
The human's replied with their own attacks. Arrows and spells flew from the city walls, crashing towards the cloud of monsters coming to the city.
***Screeeeeechhh!!!***
The screams of pain and rage from the flying monsters assaulted the defenders' ears. Corpses fell from the sky, crushing the monsters below and causing confusion on the beast wave.
But many more monsters managed to survive the rain of magic arrows.
***Screeeeeechhh!!!***
With the bloodthirsty cries of the eagles and hawks, the first birds managed to reach the walls. Then, for the very first time since the first wave, the first human casualty has been reported.
Unfortunately, it's not over yet as the bird monsters' made it to the city walls, their claws turned into a grinding machine that reaped flesh and blood, killing tens of defenders in the first five seconds.
Moreover, many flying monsters did not even bother with the defenders. They flew over the city walls, going to the undefended parts of the city to feast in the flesh and blood of the civilians.
"Light em up!" An acting leader shouted valiantly. Tens of magic arrows were shot towards the monsters, burning them into cinders.
But at the same time, more powerful monsters were attracted to the man. The squadron of hawks cried in rage and dived towards the mage with their claws ready.
The mage did not panic. Magic shields were created in front of him as he summoned fire and lightning whips, entangling, burning, and electrocuting numerous monsters. Just this was enough to show how experienced this mage was in combat.
Unfortunately, not even a Rank 3 mage was guaranteed to survive in this hell.
Suddenly, a very large Griffon appeared. Unlike other griffins, this griffon has black hair replacing the white one, bright red eyes with an aura of immediate doom hidden within as it emits powerful negative energy which has an instant death effect.
Knowing what it was, the weaker adventurers tried to run to avoid the creature's instant death aura, but the Death Griffon was slowly flying lazily above the fleeing adventurers. Even that much was enough to send them collapsing in droves from its instant death aura. The Death Griffon happily consumed the fears of the people all around it as it became stronger in turn.
Then, it spotted the Rank 3 Mage who somehow was immune to its instant death auras.
Before it could react, the mage used his magic whips to hit the Death Griffon multiple times, trying to weaken it as soon as possible.
Letting out a screech, the monster charged towards him in anger. The Rank 3 mage tries to retaliate but only for the peak
Then, it flew to another part of the battle, its presence alone caused so much fear for the people, which strengthened the creature.
It killed and killed, using its wings like sabers, its claws like swords, and its instant death aura that managed to kill a total of a hundred people in half a minute.
City guards and adventurers fought against it, using their swords, spears, and arrows to try to kill it.
But even when the Death Griffon was covered in injuries, it continued killing. It ignored the magic spear piercing its belly, and the sword that severed its wing. The arrows on its neck only served to make it more infuriated.
Even when it seemed as though the eagle was about to bleed to death, it continued fighting. Its bloodthirsty eyes shone maliciously while its aura kills everything in its path.
Just this eagle alone was enough to create a giant hole in the city defenses.
"Stop it!"
"Don't let it escape!"
"Someone, help my brother!"
Amidst the terrified cries of the crowd, the Death Griffon finally set its sight on one of the city guards.
It was a young city guard, the one that provokes Delirious, frozen in fear in front of the beast's pressure. Even when the beast was about to crush him or near its instant death range, he could not move.
*Screeeech!*
The eagle screeched madly. It extended its claw and swung it to the poor city guard.
But-
*Boom!*
An object hit its head.
While it felt painful, it didn't do much damage. Looking at the source, it saw a man with a mask and a blue hoodie with one large metal rod in his shoulders.
"Hey!" The mask man then took out another metal rod and rocket blasted himself high above the Death Griffon, which Delirious was somehow immune to its instant death aura.
"Get lost, fucker!"
Pulling both triggers, two cluster rockets split dozens of more and hit the monster, the already injured creature was pushed against the ground, while not taking too much damage, it did stunned it.
Then taking out two enchanted diamond swords, Delirious immediately jumped high and struck it down. As his two weapons stabbed the monster's chest, and its heart stopped beating.
