They took cover from behind the boulder, to which many deafening explosions came. The ground shook as the dust proliferates through the surroundings. Their ears were ringing as the explosions were so strong that it can make them deaf and due to the fact that they were near the explosion.
After the explosion, almost immediately they all looked up, and to their surprise, they saw that the walkers were able to dodge and they had only disabled a few of them permanently, as some of the walkers were now limbless. Unfortunately, the majority of the walkers got of scot free. It baffled Ferdinand for a few seconds, but then he suddenly remembered that walkers have intelligence too. So the walkers might have thought that the thing he had thrown is something that is dangerous for them, so they dodged and took cover from it.
Ferdinand glanced from left to right, to which he immediately pulled down Waylen and Simpson from behind. As soon as he pulled them, multiple rod like structure flew right past at their top. Even though that Ferdinand was sleepy, he knew for a fact that something was off even though the dust was covering his field of view. He looked to his sides and saw that Waylen and Simpson were sweating bullets.
They all didn't have the time to think about on what was happening and so they immediately looked about on the boulder with their small arms on their shoulders, to which they started blasting. After they started shooting, explosive sounds started coming out of their small arms. With each shot, they make their position relative to the ground moves ever so slightly. Unfortunately, nothing is forever which Waylen and Simpson are now running low on ammunition. This time Ferdinand said to them they should hide for the meantime and let him do the job first.
Ferdinand was already firing for a few moments, but the more he focuses the less accurate he becomes and so most all the bullets he fired misses. Furthermore, the blowback of firing a gun is now taking a toll on his physicality. Then, just as when everything was crumbling down, he thought of an idea if he can't target their vital points then he'll just pummel the crap out of them until the walker becomes disabled from all its wounds.
There was another idea. Maybe if he's the one using the weapon and his men were just assisting him, then maybe, just maybe, they could bypass the restriction by the system. So he asked Waylen and Simpson to come on top and assist him in reloading and aiming. What Ferdinand has just thought is what we call suppressive fire, which uses automatic guns like machine guns.
Ferdinand was an officer and an infantryman from the Imperial Federation so he had never actually used automatic weapons just the bolt-action ones, so he didn't understand or know the method he could use to bog down the enemies, furthermore he also recently discovered that when firing automatic guns like machine guns requires the help of one or two more persons which make up of a team of machine gunners.
Ferdinand, while waiting for Waylen and Simpson to stand up, he glanced from left to right, observing the surroundings, and then he figured out that the walkers were growing their horns much more slowly, most likely in response to being wounded by the attack earlier. That's good enough, as it gives him enough time to rally up his soldiers for one final push against the walkers.
After Waylen and Simpson stood up they touched and hold the Mark-1 Automatic Rifle which they were baffled by the fact that they were able to touch it, but that doesn't matter much they needed to help their commander who is in a state of about to fall asleep. Waylen helped in aiming and on reducing the blowback when firing the small arm, while Simpson fed it ammunition. Now the machine gun team was completed.
Ferdinand then carefully spot the hiding walkers that were preparing to attack, then he pressed the trigger. Which after the entire ground shook as the dust retreats from the automatic rifle. The wind vibrates as the sun illuminates the Automatic Rifle, which it shone through the battlefield like an angel protecting the machine gun team.
One by one, the walkers were falling like flies as the sound of the system notification was sounding up like crazy. Ferdinand, with the help of his men, carefully aimed and replaced the magazine each time it runs out. The walkers weren't even able to counterattack as their hiding spots, which are trees or bushes, were decimated by the Automatic Rifle. Soon enough, it disabled all the walkers that were attacking them and even killed some of them.
After checking the surroundings, Ferdinand and his men confirmed the walkers were, in fact, disabled now and cannot continue attacking against them. Now is the time Ferdinand checked his notifications and his system interface.

What Ferdinand saw shocked him, as the walker that he killed were in fact called a stalker but are still a walker just another variant of it. So he then decided to check his user interface to check his points.
