Chapter 9: Reaching the academy
For the next 4 days, I continued to temper my body with Aura and train in manifestation.
Marco told me not to become a Rank 1 knight since the headmaster might personally assist me to become one due to my talent.
I chatted a lot more with Marco over the next 4 days.
I learnt that when one reaches Rank 1, they are able to go into the special armoury and get a weapon just for themselves.
They will also be able to receive teaching from a Rank 3 teacher for 3 months privately.
Additionally, for the first year they will get a sum of resources equivalent to Rank 2 knights.
They will also get a private flat to live in and a separate training room.
All this just made me wonder how massive the Academy was.
I mean, apparently there are thousands of rank 1 knights, each of them have a private room and a training room.
Well, to me this was a good thing.
After reaching Rank 2, is when one has to start contributing back to the Academy for nurturing them.
Missions to keep the academy afloat.
Additionally at Rank 2, you can attend apprentice Mage classes and find out from the instructors how to become a Magic Knight.
But this is where the original knight and mage students differ. The type of magic knights learn is different from the type of magic the mages learn.
Mages learn long range magic and long range elemental attacks while knights learn body strengthening and buff magic.
This made me a little confused since they are literally constructing their own growth, but I also knew that this was not for me to think of.
My goal right now was simple, according to Marco, I will be considered a genius and there is a high chance the headmaster will personally help me break into Rank 1.
The headmaster addors geniuses and never skimps on their resources which is a good thing for me.
Another thing I learnt was at Rank 2, your place of residence doesn't really change, but you have the option of starting your own family, which a lot of people chose.
After going on adventures they bring back potential spouses from the 5 surrounding cities and live happy lives as well.
That's also why there is already a community of people with a basic city like system set up inside.
As the academy slowly became visible, I was honestly a little scared at how massive it was.
From what I could find out from Marco, the Academy itself is 500 km^2. That's almost as big as some small countries.
"Remember to take as much transport from people as possible. Don't let anyone scam you, transport is free for first years." Marco said as we entered the academy.
I wonder how much of this place Akashi has taken over by now.
Knowing him, his name is probably fairly common in the Mage parts.
"We will now be meeting the headmaster and the vice-headmaster, the leader of the Knight side of the academy." Marco said as he brought the 40 of us.
All 40 of them have been able to sense Aura, 15 being able to Manifest it so apparently it is considered as a batch of smart people.
We entered a massive hall with about 200 people already waiting for us.
Looking around I could spot that majority of them were kids my age which meant that they were probably recruits from cities around the academy.
"Am I late." Marco asked as he calmly walked forward.
"You are but it's no big deal, your candidates just missed the welcome speech." A man in professor robes said.
Marco told me any and all professors were Rank 3 knights and at least Rank 1 Magicians.
"Any special among your batch?" Asked an old woman standing beside a man who was sitting on a throne-like structure.
Probably the Vice-Headmaster and the man sitting on the throne being the headmaster.
"There are a couple that stand out, but one is really ahead of his pack." Marco said calmly, glancing back at me.
"Ohh which one." Asked the Vice-Headmaster.
Marco looked back at me and said," Come up to the front Magnus."
I nodded and walked forward, even with all the eyes on me I walked forward in a calm manner.
"What's so special about him?" A woman growled from behind where Marco was standing. She seemed to be one of the people tasked to get a group of students from a different city.
"He has already manifested Aura, and is 1 step from becoming a Rank 1 Knight." Marco calmly said, to which everyone looked at him with shock.
The 4 other group leaders and all half the professors took out a certain type of spectacles to observe me, while the other half of the professors' eyes glowed purple, similar to Merry from before.
"You are right, he can soon enter Rank 1…seems like our record has been broken. What was the fastest ever…3 months?" The vice-headmaster asked, looking at the headmaster.
"Yes, that was 2 years ago from the Magic department. This is for knights, it's known that it takes way longer to become a knight than a magician." The headmaster replied as he stood up.
He looked like an old grandpa, with a long beard. Basically like Albus Dumbeldore.
"Right, what's the point of wasting your time on something so basic, follow me kid." He said as he just stood up and walked away.
None of the professors or the group leaders seemed surprised, but all of the students not from my group were looking at me with Envy.
I just let it be, it wouldn't be the first time for me anyway.
Marco hit my back and said," See you in 3 months kid."
I nodded at him and walked quickly to catch up to the headmaster.
"I already heard your name from before Magnus. My name is Albus, but you have to continue to call me Headmaster. Stupid rules Annabeth created to show difference in ranks." The headmaster mumbled the last part.
"Tell me your grimoire ability." He asked as we were walking in and turning in some corridors.
"I have the ability to consume and assimilate any substance I eat, headmaster." I mentioned, to which he looked at me with a twinkle in his eye.
"OOOOOOHHH really?" He turned around to look at me with a goofy smile and asked.
He moved his face unnecessarily close to my mouth and I could feel his ridiculously long beard on my neck.
"Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh that's interesting, I never saw this before."
He then coughed realising how he behaved, and eventually brought me into a different building and said to me," This is my building, where you will be staying for the next 3 months. I didn't think I will be getting another disciple so soon, so I don't have a lot prepared for you for now.
Here, take these 3 Rank 1 Swords and 2 Rank 2 swords."
He said, casually waving his hand and 5 different types of sword appeared.
He then picked one of the swords out and said with a silly smile on his face," Eat this."
(Authors note: The reason the headmaster gave swords is because 1-he only has swords on him, 2- the MC is only wearing his sword-training ring right now, he had to return the spear-training ring to he other student.)
