Chapter 20: Restless

(Ravine POV)

It's been four days since Frida has been put into a coma. Marco and I have been on night patrol in her room ever since. My parents and Frida's parents can't really stay since they still have to attend to their businesses back in Winstead. However, Frida's parents vowed to visit every weekend and as religiously as they can. I also promised them that I would do my best to monitor Frida's condition every day.

Marco also made a commitment to never leave Frida's side. We seem to have no trouble with the arrangements so far.

Right now, my parents are about to bid their farewell when I overheard them talking along the hallway. I was behind the wall so they couldn't see me, eavesdropping.

"I can't imagine how difficult this must be for him." Dad said.

"On top of that, he still doesn't know." Mom said.

Doesn't know what? I thought to myself.

"When are we going to tell him?" Dad asked.

"In time."

After everyone left, I was all alone with Frida in the hospital room. I am still talking to her even though she's unconscious because someone mentioned to me a long time ago that comatose patients can still hear you when you talk to them.

"Everyone left already but I won't. I'll be here with you." I said.

All I can hear is the beep of the machine and nothing else.

"Can I tell you something, Frida?"

I looked at her before whispering something.

"I feel like a lot of people are hiding something from me. I don't know why."

"I haven't used my powers ever since your accident, just so you know." I continued talking.

"Please, wake up! I miss you already."

All of a sudden, JJ and Marco went inside, startling me.

"How is she?" JJ asked.

"Still unconscious."

"Ravine, you should go home and rest. You have been here for like so many days already." Marco said.

"Yeah, we still have school so it wouldn't be advisable for you to stay here 24/7." JJ added.

"I could say the same for you, Marco." I replied.

"I promise, I'll watch her for you. I am willing to take a leave of absence in Waldorf just for me to look after Frida." Marco vowed.

"Are you sure?" I asked.

"I have no problem, camping here as long as I get to be with Frida." Marco said and he seems convincing enough.

"Okay, but I suggest we take turns in guarding her so we won't wear ourselves out." I said.

"Hmm…that's actually a good idea. Deal!" Marco said.

(JJ POV)

Ravine and I entered his room and I sat down on his bed.

"Are you going to stay with me tonight?" Ravine asked.

"Of course, I will."

"Sister Blanche doesn't know you're sleeping over so let's just stay silent." He said.

"It's no big deal, Ravine. I slept here before, remember?"

"Yeah but you disappeared immediately the morning after." He giggled.

"This time, I won't leave." I said.

"I am going to take a shower." He said before going to the bathroom.

I waited patiently for him to finish when one of his housemates came through the door. I have seen her at the hospital but I can't remember her name.

"Oh, sorry! I didn't know Ravine has a visitor." She said.

"It's fine." I replied.

"Sister Blanche doesn't allow guests to sleep over but don't worry, I won't tell."

"What's your name, by the way?" I asked.

"Jenny. I just came here to ask how Ravine is and how was Frida's condition. We are all worried for her."

"Well, Ravine is not doing so well. I can see how Frida's accident affected him but he will be okay, I guess. As for Frida, Marco is there in the hospital with her. Tomorrow night, it's going to be Ravine's turn in watching over Frida."

"Oh, so they are going to do an alternate shift?"

"Exactly." I answered.

She closed the door behind her before walking over to me. She went near me and kind of observed me in a way, which was a little strange.

"Um, can I help you?" I asked, confused.

Okay, this is getting a little awkward.

"God, you really are handsome, JJ. Ravine sure is lucky to have you." She said, making me blush.

"Um…we are not boyfriends."

"Yet." She added.

She's a funny one, I thought to myself.

"Come on, it's so obvious already to everyone by how you treat him, that you are so into him. I mean, Ravine should have noticed it by now. If he hasn't, then there's something wrong with him."

"I guess we are still in the 'getting to know' phase." I said.

"Well, good luck then. I hope you win him over."

"Thanks, Jenny."

"Anyway, I just came here to check on him, take care. I'll go to bed now." She said before exiting the room.

Ravine got out of the bathroom just minutes after Jenny left.

"I was having a chat with Jenny." I said.

"Oh really?"

"Yeah, she just wants to know how you are and how Frida is. You have amazing friends, Ravine."

"Yeah, I am so lucky to have them. I just hope Frida pulls through."

I stood and walked up to him and lifted his chin for him to meet my gaze.

"Frida will pull through and you will be together again. I know it." I said, trying to instill hope and positivity to my mate. Ravine hugged me afterwards and I hugged him back. I rested my chin on his head since I am taller than him and we just stayed that way for a long time.

I don't want to get out of this position. I just want to keep him in my arms forever. I desire his presence and warmth so much.

Every single time that I am apart from Ravine, it's kind of getting harder and harder to cope with since my bond with him deepens day after day.

More and more, I feel the pressure to come out to Ravine and reveal to him who I really am, a werewolf and his mate.
