We park the car a little farther near some trees and walk the rest of the way to the big concrete square with the big rocket on it. Moving in the dark to all the guard points that are lit, we attack. Not much thought goes into it, we had to move quickly and this is our chance before they strengthen the guard. This was not part of the first plan we had. We normally just went on surveillance, but this got out of hand when Bram had betrayed himself by killing one and being seen. Now we are in a fight with at least 15 guards, which the 6 of us have to fight against. We have already reported to the base to send everyone they can spare, it is now or never. If we don't leave now, they will send even more backup, and it will become impossible to get to Irantus anymore. Verona and Waylon are already cutting their way to the rocket, literally. Every human and vampire is getting hit at their pass. Only something caught my eye. A vampire standing watching from the corner of the rocket, where Verona is almost now. She herself does not see the man standing, so he sees his chance to attack her after she holds her knife lower, so he is first. I see her struggling and fighting this vampire, but he is too strong. Also, we've been at this for hours now, and the troops keep coming from all over.
It's like my instinct is taking over from me as I stab all the vampires in my way to Verona until I get there. When I get there, I see the vampire drinking from her neck. Angry, I walk closer to him, Verona was now as limp as a rag. My anger took over as I bite the vampire in his mouth, pushing him to the ground with my weight that now felt like I weighed tons. Not much later, I feel him dead beneath me, cold. Verona is back to consciousness, looking at me with shock and fear. Only now does the realization dawn that I am standing before her with my mouth bloodied, as are my clothes. I try to calm her down, but not much was needed after she fell like a rag in my arms afterward. I hear cars approaching and troops of our people slaughtering the last of the vampires. Not much later, I'm in the rocket with Waylon and Verona with the first group. We were about to let a few more troops go. We had to and would clean up Irantus for the humans. Secretly, my main goal is to take out the games. Of course, the slayers also know that they can't take out all the vampires, but we could always recruit a new council with more human vampires. This was also a suggestion from Brogan. I just had to find a vampire qualified for this.
After a few days, we finally arrive at Irantus. It all looks the same when I step out from under the orange sun and feel the heat pass over my face, home at last. Verona and Waylon stand next to me looking at the view, which I admire so much. All the fields stand here, surrounded by all the beautiful flowers our planet possesses. "How beautiful," whispers Verona, who has finally recovered from her bite. All luck, she has forgotten the moment I saved her. When Waylon wants to say something, I hear another troop coming towards us with vampires. Many fewer than at their base on Earth, which really surprises me. Are they that naive? Did they really think we weren't going to make it? They obviously didn't realize that we have very qualified men in our base. Better that they don't know, the surprise comes even more.
Fighting, we beat our way through with the troops we already have. We still have them out to give half an hour and no backup that can stop us. Only now we have to get to Hymqarius to hide in order to execute our ultimate plan. We start our journey to Hymquarius through the vampire part. Not the biggest part because then we would have to go through the city, but still a bigger part than we would like. Everyone has no idea, where we really are and what dangers await. I walk at the front of the group until I reach the dark forest or the blood-sick forest. Before we can take a step into the forest, I stop everyone. "Listen up everyone! This forest is not just a forest, there are vampires running around here who will kill you in a minute. These vampires have even been banished to here by the vampires themselves. Pay attention and run as fast as you can." Everyone looks at me, but do as I say as I begin to walk at a human pace through the long forest ahead. Until successively there is a sound from behind us. A rustling sound with some sort of scratching. The sound makes all the hairs on my body stand tall, "They're here!" I yell. Man by man I can hear screaming in pain, though we can do nothing but move forward and hope we don't all perish, before we are out of the woods."Almost," I say more to myself than the rest. The rest already shrunk by that bloodthirsty one. A vampire is faster and less likely to be caught by one, though Remus and Xandros had prizes last time too. When I finally see the light again at the end of the forest, my luck can't run out. When we come out of the forest with the group of 20, I look sadly at how many people have died in that forest, too many. 20 men to be exact, too many. Everyone who is left is panting from the effort, I myself try to do the same as them not to fall through the basket. As a result, I only now notice that Verona is watching me. She looks like she knows something, like she hasn't forgotten the moment. Which of course could be dangerous for me if she tells the rest. They could kill me in my sleep. Not much later, we step into hymqarius, where we look for a place to stay for the night. George is no longer an option, of course, after we're caught there, and they'll be the first to look when they see the damage in the square.
We are lucky that a few houses at the end of the first street, are empty, and we can spend the night even if it means sleeping with 10 in a house, almost congested even.
