Chapter 6: Are NPC's really that dumb?

Without any warning, a pillar of light descended from the sky. If one looks up in the direction where the light came from, one would realize that it is connected to the highest point in the realm.

This pillar of light landed exactly outside the gates of the Novice Village. In the pillar, one could vaguely see a burly silhouette of a man.

Without delay, the figure took a step forward followed by the rest of the body.

What came out was an Orc with green skin, tough muscles, and tusks. If there was anything different between this Orc and the other Orcs, it should be that this Orc had red braided hair stopping at the middle of his back.

It was Red who was transported by the game to Stone Village.

Red willed it and a screen containing his character's basic information appeared in front of him.

[Name: ???]

Looking at his character name that displayed only question marks Red didn't have an unusual reaction. The AI didn't ask him for his username when he was in the Hall of Gods so the situation was only natural.

The way for a player to obtain a username in Overworld is unique but it's not complicated as well. Players are only required to answer with the username of their choice when they are asked by the guards of the village.

This doesn't mean that one can change names infinitely though as this was a one-time thing. If you already declare your name there is no regretting it.

Furthermore, players don't have to feel embarrassed because the NPCs won't have any particular reaction and are accepting of the words and actions of players as long as it is determined so by the system.

A great example of this was the descent of Red, it clearly created a huge commotion and the pillar of light can even be seen a mile away but no curious people came to observe as if what happened here was a common occurrence and nothing more.

With an abysmally deep voice, Red announced his name to the guards, "This one is called Red, I greet the protectors of the village"

[Novice Guard 1 favorability +1]

[Novice Guard 2 favorability +1]

"We welcome you to our village, we could use strong and brave Orcs like you", with an equally deep voice the guard on the right responded to Red with a hint of a smile on his otherwise menacing tone.

At the same time, Red received a notification telling him that his character's name is already set as Red plus an achievement.

[I am who I said I am:]

You are one of the first batch of people to know yourself, INT +1.

The achievement is a reward from the developers to those players who joined the game early on and won't be triggered again after a week.

Entering the village, Red hurriedly walked in the direction of the Village Chief's house.

After listening to the long line of dialogue, Red accepted an E-grade mission.

[Mission: Training Montage]

Grade: E

Mission Description: The Village Chief appreciated your enthusiasm and fighting spirit but he thinks that you are still too weak.

Mission Objective: Get stronger

XX[END]XX

Without missing a beat, Red spent all his free attribute points on strength.

[Ding!!]

[Mission: Training Montage Completed]

[Rewards:]

Copper Coins x10

10 EXP

Gold light shone on Red as he leveled up to 2.

"Good, you didn't disappoint me adventurer!" The Village Chief praised Red with a natural expression. As if he was unaware that Red never left his spot from the start.

This was just a small trick, the majority of the players will spend their free attribute points once they obtained it. The developers only took advantage of this mindset to disgust the players with this quest.

"Do you have a quest for me Village Chief?"

"Just in time, the wolves outside the village are getting more and more aggressive these few days. Kill 10 wolves and I'll reward you for your efforts."

Saying goodbye to the Village Chief, Red didn't immediately go outside the village and instead proceeded to talk to the blacksmith, alchemist, and seamstress in the village and accepted their quest.

After he was done, Red left the village to farm monsters.
