Chapter 13
As guests explore a history museum in London, Hekate, who has taken the form of a beautiful woman, looks at some of the ancient artifacts. This is when a tour guide approaches her. He begins to explain the artifact she is looking at, but Hekate can hear his heartbeat. He is nervous.
Hekate: Why are you nervous?
The man adjusts his tie and declares he does not know what she means when she grabs him by his neck.
Hekate: What is it that makes you nervous? Is it you have never spoken to a woman like myself or is it because your hands are covered by the filth of how you have touched many in your life? You will do my bidding as a chance to have those sins erased, but if you fail to comply, I will make you watch as slaughter your entire family and then make you bask in your own suffering.
Hekate then kisses the man, infecting him with her curse and sends him away to spread it and expand her army. Hekate leaves the museum to join up with Barbatos, also in human form, as the museum explodes into a massive fireball, killing all those still inside.
Hekate: That will get his attention.
The encounter with Enchantress has the village on high alert and worried if she will attack them. Now that Kargan is gone, Renee is now in charge and tries to keep everyone calm.
Renee: I understand you all are worried about this Enchantress that attacked Hybreed last night and make no mistake we are doing all we can to solve this mystery. But I promise you this, if she steps foot here, I will not allow her to destroy us. This is sacred ground, and I will be damned if some ancient being dares to challenge us.
Hybreed: I will go into town, see what I can dig up. There has to be a reason she came back.
Konnor: I'll come with you. I don't trust humans, so it's helpful to have backup if you need it.
Nikita: I'll go too.
Jasper: Same.
Hybreed: I need you two to stay back. Keep an eye out. If things get sour, you will know what to do.
Hybreed and Konnor head into the town and head for the local library to see if they can find information on Enchantress but find nothing. They run into Father Benitez, whom they hope can be of help. He is accompanied by them to his church and to his office. From there, Father Benitez begins to look over everything he knows about Enchantress. This is basically what Katherine had told Hybreed so many years ago. A powerful demon, she grants wishes upon summoning, but in exchange, demands an annual human sacrifice. If the sacrifice is not given, Enchantress can claim their soul in any way she desires and there is nothing that can stop her. Remembering that night when Katherine was transformed into Hekate, he also remembers when she began chanting something in a language he had never heard of. He comes to the conclusion that she was calling for the dark powers to free her, therefore they claimed her soul and now she works alongside the Enchantress. Leaving the church with Father Benitez, he wishes he could give them more answers, but Hybreed thanks him anyway.
