A Price

"We do. We just can't face the consequences." Edward said whitening over to look at me.

I turned over to look at him. One's expressions can tell you a lot more than just their words. We looked into each other's eyes for a small amount of time which made me slightly awkward.

"So , well anyways, where is Chester sleeping?" Edward immediately changed the subject.

I was pretty confused as to why he changed the subject yet, I was quite relieved that he did. I did feel slightly awkward with all the staring. After all, he asked a valid question. Where was Chester? I looked at him stunned, my hand slid into my pocket to hide my claws. I felt fear radiate throughout both of us. Watching Edward expressions slowly turn to look from a joking expression to a worried one that was not pure fear, did not help in any way at all.

"Shit." I realised.

When we dispersed off to find our bedrooms, all of us forgot about Chester and had just went on to do our own thing. At that thought, a chill ran down our spine. Where was he? I extended my claws to stay safe. Should we find him?

"Do we?" I asked.

"We don't have a choice anyways now do we?" Edward extended his own claws.

We quietly snuck out of the room, closing the room door very quietly. Silence engulfed us. It was not shocking. It was already about 2:40am. We have been staring at the ceiling for almost 5 hours now. What was shocking is that the lights of every living room was still on. When we heard small footsteps, we panicked to act normal while getting ready to fight. I took a cup and filled it up with a little water to drink from and sat on the counter next to the fridge that Edward had opened.

I watched, alertly. Chester came walking in tiredly. He seemed to be pretty much fine. I still did not trust him for some reasons. Something told me that he was untrustworthy. I stared at him, watching his every move. I watched his every step, his every move.

"Can't sleep?" I asked.

He wearily shook his head.

Strange. Not even a single word spoken and yet I felt seemingly threatened.

"Sky snores really loudly." His voice was all scratchy.

I was startled at his low voice. Well, that was different. Oblivious to me and Edward's tension as we watched him just casually amble around the place. I felt as if something was up. Like as if they had something planned.

"Edward, I suggest you go to bed now." Sky came walking in.

"Oh? How about your 'niece'?" Edward growled.

"Now now, calm down your 'girlfriend' will be just fine. I would just like a quick chat with her." Sly sounded more intimidating now.

"Oh wow, I trust you." Edward kept fighting back.

I sat there, claws ready for a fight. I watched every move of every one. I watched as Edward keeps on fidgeting with his fingers. How Chester slowly 'woke up' from his act of tiredness and Sky's inability to keep eye contact no matter what.

"Edward. Go." I finally decided to speak.

Their bickering was really annoying.

"Edward, trust me." Chester begged.

"No. I don't trust you. But her, I trust." Edward sighed before leaving.

Chester was taken aback. Who could blame him? His childhood friend had just said that he had lost all trust in him. Well, it definitely would have hurt.

"What is it?" I asked.

"I don't know how to say this but, your parents wanted something from me to tell you-" Chester explained.

"Chester, I will now leave." Sky said before taking his leave, ever so causally.

Chester nodded, acknowledging Sky, his eyes still fixated on me. I nervously fidgeted slightly, Edward scent never left the place. His scent was so strong that I knew that he could not have gone far. He stayed around, making sure I would be safe, or that was what I thought.

"Well, Mother always protected you right?" He asked, waiting patiently for my answer.

I nodded, clearly unsure as to what to expect next. Yet, I hid my claws, ready for the unexpected.

"Everything comes with a price." He hinted, with a smirk.

Oh, that smirk did not seem very safe. I could sense anger on Edward's end. He failed at hiding his scent, especially his emotions, terribly. I could hear his heartbeat, pounding like a ticking bomb. I too, started to hear my own heartbeat pounding ever so loudly. Chester waited patiently for a answer.

"What is it?" I asked.

My patience was running out. I did not understand the reason for the suspense. I had no where to go either way. It was not as if he would let me go would he? Well, I could try but it might only make things worse would it not? After asking him for a quick clarification, a hint for him to stop his games, he turned around, hands behind his back. He slowly ambled towards to the chair. He swung his leg up at every step. I peered over at where Edward's heartbeat could be heard. I knew if I tapped three times, he would know that Chester would have gone too far.

"Well, what do you think?" He asked.

I remained silent. What the hell was I supposed to say? 'oh I would sell my soul to you just name your price?' What did he want exactly.

"I think you are mad." I answered with full confidence.

I had to remain the strong act. I could not look weak. Especially now. I glared at him, anger and rage filling every crevice of my heart. I knew I could not trust him. At that moment, I heard Sky's heartbeat. I knew he was around the corner, however, he hid himself well. I was wrong, he was not hiding, he was just simply back to 'see how things are doing.' Sky leaned over on the table at which Chester was sitting at. I hated that sight. I felt weak.

"You mother said to name my price for protecting you to you." Chester stated to smile.

Oh, I just knew this was not good. I opened my mouth to speak but instead, Sky spoke.

"What the hell does that mean?" Sky argued.

"Did I stutter?" His voice was so annoyingly menacing.

"That was what you wanted to 'talk' to her about?" Sky asked in absolute disbelief.

"Yes? Do you have an issue?" He asked, again, his tone was threatening.

"Yes I do! What the hell man. You did not even protect her." He argued again.

"So who was the one who told you to take the tracker out?" He asked

"And who was the one who brought you back to our van when you was hung?" Sky fought back.

"I hung myself idiot. I knew you would go there, the moment I heard you guys pull up, I kicked that chair away. I did that to make you drive away from that place. The Silvers next location was there."

Now we were all in shock. He was smart, but was it all just a made up story. Besides, it sounded well rehearsed.

Now the real question was, how could we trust him?
