Chaos, heaven, the law of mortality and 'that thing', these were the essence of the universe, the four pillars of life as we know it.

Without chaos, how could ambition, perseverance, power, strength, all demonic ideologies, emotions and thoughts and all exist?

Without heaven, how could love, kindness, tranquility, peace and all heavenly ideologies, emotions and thoughts exist?

Without the law of mortality, how could life and death exist? Death was intertwined with life and life was intertwined with death, one couldn't exist without the other.

Without 'that thing', how could anything exist at all?

It was at a point in time where the chaos and heaven war was at its peak, according to the fake tale formed by members of the Heavenly Way, energy leaked from their battle, forming the universe.

The truth was that a little bit of heaven and chaos's energy fused for a second, these opposing forces created a large explosion which temporarily broke through the boundaries of heaven and chaos's realm.

If the law of mortality was not constantly acting, then at that moment, that explosion would have kept its energy as one, not living or dying, it would have simply never existed altogether.

However, it was different, the explosion lived as everything does in the universe and spread its energy over a huge area, creating space in the realm of nothingness outside of the heaven and chaos realm.

Now, space wouldn't have been created if 'that thing' didn't exist, if 'that thing' didn't exist, heaven and chaos wouldn't be able to do anything other than simply exist.

In a way, 'that thing' was the single most important component in the universe.

Every single action one did, every single thought one thought, every single interaction one had, all of it could be attributed to 'that thing'.

Heaven and chaos always existed, but they didn't exist alone.

'That thing' was the essence of all supreme laws.

That thing was the Fundamental Ethos!

The Fundamental Ethos was the foundation of all things.

Why water is wet, why a human can't jump two thousand feet in the air, why gravity exists, space and time and all concepts all were linked together with the Fundamental Ethos.

The Fundamental Ethos is intangible, untouchable, indestructible. It's omnipresent, omniscient and all-powerful. Above all laws of reality, dictating heaven, chaos and the law of mortality.

You may be asking, why is the law of mortality not included in the Fundamental Ethos?

The answer is, humans were never meant to exist. Without the law of mortality, any organism wouldn't exist. Once the law of mortality was created by heaven and the Fundamental Ethos working together, organisms started to exist after the universe's inception.

Even Fang Xian, someone who has delved deep into immortal society, didn't know of the Fundamental Ethos, even though he was constantly using it, and was even using it in this moment as he watched with confusion and shock at the identity of his so-called enemy.
