17.2 Loving someone

Rau looked at him for a moment, pondering how to begin his explanation. Yomo waited patiently for him to speak, still struggling with his brain hammer, which, although it had diminished, still resonated in his brain.

"Did you do it just for fun? Is that why you avoided me afterwards? Because you regretted it?" he insisted in the face of his host's silence.

Rau opened his mouth and then closed it again, avoiding his green gaze, still searching for those words. There was nothing less romantic than this after-party situation gone wrong.

"I... I kissed you because... I like you," he finally said with difficulty.

Yomo leaned his head forward to try to catch his eye.

"Then why did you avoid me?"

Rau glanced at the tall, dark-haired man, then looked away, embarrassed. He'd gotten himself into this mess, he had to get himself out of it.

"After the chase, I... I got scared... it was scary..."
