The woods were unavoidably silent, Only the sound of horses could be heard. I let out a sigh and leaned back in my seat. My eyes fell on the scrolls beside me, Charles called it "The most secretive document made" If that's true why would they make it through the woods today? On blood moon day?
"Be comfortable Minister this route is only for the Ministry officials, She would never know about these" The charioteer assured
"Wolf knows the forest more than hunters." I thought
It was half past midnight, The sudden chaos in the ride woke me up. I peeped through the window just to find the horses running savage, and no charioteer.
"She won't kill me, not now, not until she gets what she needs." I thought as I secured myself on my seat.
Horses slowly got control, and I smirked.
I stayed calm until the horses stopped. The doors of the chariot opened there stood a man little less than tall his brown eyes were the only visible part of his face, and that's everything I could see
"Get down Minister" his voice sounded pretty young not deep or hoarse it was soft but stern.
I followed him as he walked deep into the forest his pace was fast and hard to keep up
"If you want me to follow you, you should be a little slow if not I'm just going to sit down somewhere. " I said, my pitch higher than it would be. I ran behind him to catch him.
"You are not in the position to make commands." He said
"I am not commanding, I am just requesting you to walk like a normal human." I stopped to catch my breath
"We have a mile to walk down, I can't let my chief wait." He stopped, this time his voice wasn't stern but filled with sincerity.
"Come let's go"
We reached the light at last. Dime lamps made the place aesthetic, and those little tree houses high in the tree were too much for assassins to live in. People looked normal just like the people in the village but their faces were pale and stern even the children had forgotten to smile. Everyone stared at us as we entered, their face contained an unreadable expressions.
"King's wise dog?" A kid asked, I frowned she looked like a five or around but her voice lacked the softness and fear.
"Yes, Aurelia but I'm not giving him to you He's the Chief's ward." That man said with a straight face and stern voice different from what he used to me.
"Oh come on Cato My mother won't mind." wait a second she has a daughter!?
"I have no time to argue, I'm leaving." And he began walking.
"She's your chief's daughter?" I asked as we left.
"Nothing that should matter to you before death." He just walked away, I sighed, and I followed him. We passed several stares before we enter dark once again it was nothing but pitch dark without the moon. We stopped, and he got on his knees and said "Chief, your prey"
"So Aarav Burton what do you have for me?" She came in front of me I could see her blurred figure she was a young woman of medium height and intimating bright yellow eyes
"The scrolls and the codes of merchants" I smiled genuinely
"Wolf in a forest aren't we?" She smirked
"I'd rather be the hunter" I smirked back
"Take him as a guest." She said to Cato
"But Lilith..."
"Should I repeat myself?" Cato nodded hesitantly "And Mr Burton all eyes on you, one wrong move, It won't be me but my people."
