Chapter 10

The men all walked down a spotless hall, lit with fluorescent lights that buzzed softly in tune with their footsteps. Leading the pack were John and Chris. Nicholas and the general walked closely behind them doing their best not to show their fear of the actions before. They had left Agent Newton's body in the meeting room for others to dispose of. The very nature of the incident left the two on edge. However, John seemed completely at ease. He chatted with Chris as if nothing had transpired at all.

"The people we have that you will be training are the best America and France has to offer. They will not disappoint you in the slightest." John beamed a smile at Chris who still had a murderous intent in his eyes.

"I will be the judge of that."

"I'm sure you will Chris. I have the utmost faith in your abilities now that I have seen a taste of what you have to offer." Chris felt a sinister tone in John's voice. As if John enjoyed the gruesome violence of Agent Newton's death. Nicholas tried to chime in "The warriors from my land are very skilled in swordsmanship such as yourself Mr. Mase." Chris glanced back at Nicholas, which made him start to stammer "W-Well, I'm sure they still have much to learn from someone as skilled as you..." Nicholas trailed off and looked down. Chris had a menacing presence about him that made it difficult for even someone as high up as Nicholas to look him in the eye. John glanced back to see both the general and Nicholas with their heads down in fear. 'Worthless' John thought to himself rolling his eyes. 'How can such spinless men rule by my side?' this was why John did not tell them what agent Newton would be doing to get Chris here. He resolved that they simply wouldn't be able to stomach the truth. 'The world is cruel. they need to see that.' Just as John was finishing his thought they had made it to the end of the hall to the training room.

"Well, this is where Nicholas and I will leave you, Chris. You will be in the capable hands of general kodos." John gestured toward the general. "He will be able to fill you in on the team and what we expect from you." The general looked pale. He wasn't sure how the hell he was supposed to keep someone like Chris in check. John patted Chris on the shoulder "And Chris? remember to 'play nice' " John smirked and Chris clenched his jaw. It was clear to Chris that Agent Newton was only following orders from John. It was also clear that the French leader and the general knew nothing about John's orders. That is why he opted to kill Agent Newton straight away. In hopes that it would strike fear into John's composure but he simply seemed to enjoy the speculation. Like Chris was doing exactly as he predicted. He was a snake waiting in the grass to strike at the perfect moment. Chris made a mental note to keep his eyes on John.

'A man that enjoys the plight of others isn't someone you should keep around long' Chris ran his hand through his brown hair. The general had to admit that Chris was far above his expectations. He expected a boy, weak if anything. But as the general gazed upon Chris now he knew it was wrong to misjudge the situation. Chris was tall 'maybe like 6'5 ' the general thought. however, he was pure muscle. Lean and strong, not an ounce of fat on him. The general watched as John and Nicholas left. John seemed to have a smile on his face. He seemed to know something that no one else did. However, despite the generals best efforts he could not hold a candle to the mind of John. Instead the only thing the general could do is trust in his leader and make the most of the man in front of him. "Maybe we do stand a chance.." The general muttered.
