The After Crash

Ivy wakes up in a hospital bed. The last thing she remembers is the woods. She sits up, "Lexie! I need to help Lexie! And Mark! Derek's hand! Arizonas leg! I need to help them."

"Dr. Shepherd, we're helping everyone. I need you to lay back and relax," a doctor tells her.

"I need to see them. I need to help them. If I can get to them, I can help them. Please, let me help them," she fights them.

She sees them insert something into her I.V. before she feels sleepy.

"No, Hunt. She didn't need to be on that freakin plane! She wouldn't have the burns on her body. She wouldn't be fighting an infection if she wasn't on the plane. They had orthopedic and trauma surgeons in Boise but SHE had to be the one there?" Ivy wakes to Jacksons yelling.

"Avery, I know you're mad-"

"Mad?! Mad! You think I'm mad? I'm furious! Ivy would be fine if you didn't put her on the freakin plane!" Jackson yells again.

She opens her eyes a little and sees Jackson and Owen, "Jacks-"

Jackson hears her and quickly turns around, "Hey, sweetheart. How are you feeling?"

She looks around, "Mark? Lexie? Derek? Ar-"

He holds her hand, "There all here, but, Ivy, Lexie-"

"Lexie died. She was crushed by a plane. I-I couldn't help her. I couldn't do my job. I'm a trauma surgeon and I didn't save her. What is wrong with me?" Ivy asks, not focusing on anything around her.

Jackson glares back at Hunt, "Ivy, sweetheart, you are okay. You did nothing wrong. You tried everything you could. No one could have helped her. No trauma soldier or ortho goddess could have helped her. Don't blame yourself."

She looks at him with a blank face, "I could have. If I only I stood up and tried to help Mark and Cristina lift the plane. I could have helped her. I just wasn't strong enough," she then turns away from him and stares at the wall.

Jackson turns back to Hunt, "Do you see what you did. Because of that stupid plane, she blames herself for something she had no choice in. Then you add on that she might lose her leg if I can't get the infection under control. You did this to her and you did it to the rest of them. This is on you. Leave."

○○○○*Jackson's POV*

I walk into Cristinas room where April, Meredith and Alex are eating, "How are we doing here?"

"Hey, Jackson, you're talking to Sloan, right? Keeping him updated," Meredith asks me.

"Yeah. Not about work stuff, though. He doesn't need that kind of pressure right now," I tell her.

She looks between Alex and I, "What is wrong with you two?"

I look at her, "He's more worried about his little sister that her brother and I had to commit to psych than work."

"I know, I'm just saying, they're fine. They're gonna be fine. Arizonas not gonna lose her leg, Sloans coming back, and Ivy will be out of there in no time. They're all coming back. So let's act like it. They're gonna be fine. We're all going to be fine," she tells us, looking at Cristina.

Alex asks, "How long are we saying that this is okay?"

"As long as she needs."

"I, for one, find it refreshing. They say, if you don't have something nice to say...she never has anything nice to say. Come on, Yang. I'm wide open. Just hit me," I smile at April but Cristina just looks up.

April turns to me, "How is Ivy? I know you and Derek didn't want to do that to her."

I sigh, "Well, good news out numbers the bad. The infection in her leg is completely gone. So, besides some nerve damage and scars, it will be fine. Shes stopped blaming herself for Lexies death. So her doctors are saying she can come home in the next  couple of days. Then... the hope is that she comes back to work a couple days after that."

"Well, that's good. Ivy coming back to work, right?" April's asks me.

"I'm worried about how she's going to react in the E.R. She may say she's better but, if she's not and she's back in the E.R..." I trail off.

Meredith looks at me, "You think she'll have another freak out?"

"Meredith, she threaten to stab herself with a scapal. Thats how much guilt and PTSD she is facing. She won't ask for help. I can't force myself on her. So, yeah, I think she'll have another freak out," I remember.

"Oh, come on. She's learning how to cope. She'll be back in no time, bossing us around, scaring the interns. Like Mer said, she'll be fine," Alex tells me.

I shake my head, looking down, "God I hope so."

○○○○*Original POV*

Ivy steps into her room. She slowly moves around to sit on the bed when her leg goes numb. She falls face first onto the floor. She eventually rolls on her back and waits until Jackson comes in.

Jackson walks in and panics, kneeling down next to her to check her pulse, "Hey, Ivy, are you okay? What happened?"

"My leg went numb. I fell down and didn't feel like trying to get up. My legs fine, it's just the nerves," she tells him, sighing.

He lifts her up, bridal style and puts her in her bed, "Okay, let's get you ready for bed. Do you need any water? An extra blanket? Is it too hot in here for you? I can turn down the heat, give me one-"

"Jackson. Jackson. I'm fine. These pillows aren't as comfy as the ones in psych, so we should order me new ones. The one thing I would like, is for you to lay with me," she tells him, patting the bed next to her.

He nods and smiles before laying down and pulling her to his chest, "I missed this. I'm so glad you're doing better."

She nods, "I'm sorry for scaring you. I just couldn't handle the thoughts and how I could have done more for her."

"No need to be sorry. All you need to remember is that this isn't your fault. You couldn't have done more for her. Now, go to sleep," he shushes her, kissing the top of her head.

"Can I go see Mark tomorrow?" Ivy asks, snuggling close to Jacksons chest.

Jackson smiles, "Of course you can. Hes been asking for you since he woke up. I love you."
