Back and Scarier

Ivy sits next to Derek as a representive starts listing all the injuries they sustained in the crash, "Derek Shepherd- multiple hand fractures with a median nerve injury. Ivy Shepherd- 2nd degree burns to the arm, 3rd degree burns to the leg. Arizona Robbins- open femur fracture with resultant above-knee amputation. Lexie Grey- deceased. Mark Sloan- deceased. This doesn't include extreme..."

The representative of the airline says, "...wish for me to extend their deepest condolences."

"How is-how is the investigation going?" Derek interrupts him.

"Have they found what caused the crash?" Ivy asks.

"The investigation could take years. That's why we want to help you put this tragedy behind you," he tells them.

The hospital representative corrects, "I think you mean, your clients would like to put it behind them."

He continues, "So I am authorized at this time to purpose a onetime settlement. Bayview Aeronautics takes your loss seriously. Now the settlement agreement must be unanimous, and it releases Bayview Aeronautics from any and all other claims, known or unknown, but... most important, it will allow you to put this painful time behind you and move on with your lives."

Derek passes Ivy the paper with the amount on it. It's a lot, but it doesn't pay for the damages done to her or anyone else.

Jackson and Ivy lyrics in bed as she tells him the amount, "Wow. That's a lot of money. And I know a lot of money."

"Yeah, but... I don't want to settle. I mean, what does that actually accomplish? It does Bayview more good than it does us. It doesn't bring back Mark or Lexie. Or Arizonas leg, or my time in psych. All this does is tell Bayview that they are free from responsibility because they gave us money," Ivy tells him, sittibg up.

"So, I guess the question is... what are you going to do?" He looks at her.

Ivy sighs, "For now. Go to bed. It's my first day back tomorrow and I get to scare the interns."

Jackson chuckles, "You're not that scary, babe."

Ivy raises one brow, "Really? I'm not scary? Okay, remember you said that."

She turns over so she is the little spoon as Jackson stares, horrified, "You wouldn't do anything to me, right?"

"Good night Jackie."

"Right?"

Ivy stands at the nurses station in the E.R. It's her first day back and she is ready. All she needs, is to get the two groups behind her to stop whispering about her.

Alex walks up to the group of attendings, "What are we watching?"

"Its Ivys first day back and we're just...observing her," Derek tells him.

"You mean stalking?"

"Observing."

Over with the interns, Ross whispers, "Shes double board certified and Medusa respects her, so she must be scary, right?"

Brooks shakes her head, "No, she could just be a really good surgeon and Medusa sees the talent."

Ivy turns around and stares at the two groups, "You all suck at whispering and remember, I hear everything."

Both groups stand up straighter as Ivy turns to the interns, "Well, come over here," they walk forward and stop in front of her, "Good. Now, before we start, I'm going to give you a piece of advice I got from an attending on my first day as an intern. Attendings and residents aren't made to be your bffs. We're you're teachers and we are suppose to be hard on you. So, if I'm mean or hard or tough on you, take it as a compliment and work harder. If I'm nice on you, be scared and work harder. Any questions?"

Murphy raises her hand, "Is it true you're double board certified?"

"Yes, in ortho and trauma. Any other questions? No, good. Attendings, if you're going to observe," she puts quotation marks around observe, "Be more stealthy. Now, Karev, you have Wilson. Torres, you have Ross. Avery, you have Edwards. Webber, you have Murphy and Brooks, your with me. Torres, Karev, ambulance about ten minutes out. And Hunt, you have a meeting in two minutes, what the hell are you still doing down here?" she assigns before gesturing for Brooks to walk with her.

"How dare I want to watch my favorite fellow operate again," Owen says, turning to go to his meeting.

Brooks give her cointerns a terrified look as she follows Ivy. Bailey and Meredith both give nods to Ivy as she passes as Derek gives her a small applause.

"I should apologize to Brooks at the end of the day," Jackson tells the attendings.

"Why?"

"Because last night I told Ivy she wasn't scary."

Derek turns to him, "You told Ivy she wasn't scary? Are you crazy?"

Jackson tries to defend himself, "She was half asleep, she looked like a little kitten. What was I supposed to say?"

"That shes the most fierce and frightening person you've ever met. Yeah, you should apologize to Brooks later," Derek tells him, putting a hand on his shoulder in support.

Ivy walks in with Brooks in tow to Jacksons patients room, "From general for the hernia repair?"

"Yeah, I did," Edwards nods.

"Yup, and that will be me. Hi, I'm Dr. Shepherd. Currently, our general surgeons are all scheduled for surgery, so I will be doing it instead. Don't worry, I come highly recommended by every general surgeon in this hospital," Ivy says, smiling at the patient and the family with her, startling the interns with how nice she is being.

"She is, I trust her with my life and I trust her with your hernia. Dr. Shepherd, I will need to go over some incision points with you," Ivy nods at Jackson.

The patient turns to the guy, "Um, honey, could you...they want me to take off my robe."

"Roxie, this is a big operation. I want to know everything that's gonna happen to you," he tells her.

"Frank, please," Roxie pleads.

He turns to Jackson, "This is my fiancee, love of my life. You guys do a good job, okay?"

"Of course," Jackson says, as his and Ivys eyes connect.

Frank kisses Roxie, "I'll be right outside, babe."

Jackson winks at her as this happens and Ivy gives him a small glare. Roxie stands up, "All right."

"Now, I'm gonna start with some incisions here...and here," Jackson kneels down to mark the sites.
