Bad Day

Ivy stands in the twins nursery, burping Alexus as Christopher coos softly in his crib, "My little angels. You kept mommy up all night last night, which isn't nice. Seriously-"

She stops as she feels a pain in her leg. She grimances before calling out, "Jackson. Jackson!"

He comes running into the room, "Whats going on? Are the twins okay? Are you okay?"

"Take Alexus. Put her in her crib and help me to the bedroom. Now," she holds their daughter out to him.

"What are you- Ivy!" Jackson calls out as she starts to fall with Alexus still in her arms.

Jackson manages to catch both of them but the jostling and quick movements startled Alexus and she started to cry. Jackson calms her down as Ivy whimpers in pain, messaging her leg and trying to reach for her daughter.

"Alexus, Allie, sweetheart. Mommy's sorry! Please calm down, you're okay."

"Hey, hey, it's okay. See, she's calming down," Jackson manages to calm Alexus down and puts her into her crib, "Come here. Let's get you into our room. I'll call Hunt and tell him you're not-"

"I'm going in today. This may have been the first time this has happened since we had the twins and I may have almost dropped our daughter and I might be in pain right now but I will be going to work," Ivy stops him.

He looks down at their intertwined hands, "Babe, you're cutting off circulation to my hand. My operating hand. Look, you can take the day off-"

She shakes her head, letting go of his hand, "No I can't. We just got three months off for the twins and the wedding and the honeymoon. I'm not taking anymore off! I should be good by the time we need to leave for work, so go. Take care of the twins and if you hear anything from this room, just ignore it. I'm probably just thinking I'm being burned again, no big deal."

"You're insane if you think I'm going to ignore youre screams of pain-" he's cutoff by Ivy again.

"You better. We have twins to take care of now and you can't be focused on me when they need you," she points to the door.

"Fine but if you need me, just scream and I'll come running," he runs out the door before she can argue with him.

Ivy lays back on the bed and let's a whimper of pain out, finally letting the tears flow, "Stupid leg. Stupid, stupid, stupid."

After the horror show that was her morning, Ivy is in a trauma room with Owen, looking over a patient, "Uh, skull is cracked. They said he went through the windshield?"

Ivy calls out, "V-tach. No pulse!" She slams her fist on his chest before starting compressions, "Paddles. Charge to 100! Clear! Clear! Okay, I've got a rhythm. I got a pulse."

Owen nods before calling out, "Wait," he starts doing a neuro check, "No pupillary response, no pain response, visible brain matter, no evidence of brain activity. I think we lost him."

"Maybe there's a mistake. I need to see him!" Ivy hears a woman cry at the front desk.

Ivy finishes talking to Mrs. Mercer before heading out to talk to Hunt, "Shes filled out all the donor paperwork. She just wants a couple minutes with him before she starts making arrangements."

He nods, "Of course."

They're interrupted by Thom, "Excuse me, uh, doctor? This isn't the right time for this, I'm-I'm sure. I mean, there probably isn't one. But I-I feel like it can't wait."

"How can we help?"

"Donnie had a kidney transplant about four months ago," Thom starts.

Owen tells him, "Yeah, we knew about that."

"That was me. I donated my kidney for him."

Ivy smiles at him, "Thats...incredible. He was lucky to have friends like you."

Thom nods, "He was. Yeah. Uh, amazing. So, um... I was wondering about the kidney...can I get that back?"

She turns to Owen. A look of disbelief on her face, "Uh, if you'll excuse me. I'm needed in the E.R."

Ivy hands her tablet to a nurse before turning to walk away. As she turns, she feels something ram into her and she falls to the ground. Looking up, she sees Edwards starting to apologize, "Dr. Shepherd! I am so sorry! I-I-I-"

"Stop. Help me up and page Dr. Torres and Dr. Avery. Actually, for your sake, just page Dr. Torres," Ivy holds her hand out to Edwards.

They manage to get Ivy to a bed and Edwards runs to page Callie. Ivy grabs her burned leg and let's out a little whimper. After he leg has an episode, it is sore for at least a day, so only a few hours after her latest one and being hit, it is screaming in pain.

Callie opens the curtain, "You know, I'm getting tired of seeing family in these beds."

"Who else?"

"Arizona. Apparently, Edwards is on a hitting spree today because she hit her earlier and broke her prosthetic. Oh, and get this. Another resident is causing problems. Leah Murphy was the one who filed the complaint," Callie complains.

Ivy bites her lip as her leg starts flaring up in pain again, "Mm-hmm. That-that sucks."

Callie notices Ivys state, "Hey, you okay? What hurts?"

She points to her leg, "I had another episode this morning. The first one I've had since the twins were born, and it usually is sore for a while after. But Edwards hit it and now it's hurting even worse. Can I have morphine or something?"

"Do you want to work anymore today?"

"Yes."

"Then no. I'll look it over and we can go from there," Callie sits down and starts looking for any bruising along the leg, "So...what happened this morning?"

Ivy sighs, "I was burping Alexus when my leg started to hurt. I called for Jackson but he didn't catch on quick enough and I started to fall. I almost dropped my daughter because of my stupid leg."

Callie finishes, "Hey, you didn't. Alexus is fine, right? So is your leg. Come on, let's get you up and working. It'll take your mind off of the pain and if it still hurts in an hour, page me and we'll give you morphine."

She helps Ivy stand up, "Alright. Deal."

They walk out from behind the curtains where Ivy is met with Thom asking about the kidney, "Its a donor organ, so it can't be...regifted."

She spots Owen over his shoulder and shakes her head for him to escape before Thom continues, "I don't understand, though. It's mine."
