Bailey's Mistake

"I can't believe April is marrying Luke," Jackson tells Ivy as they get the twins ready, "I mean. She's known the guy how long?"

Ivy rolls her eyes, "Not everyone is best friends with their eventual spouse like us, Jackson. Plus, they're having a kid together and what they want for their kid and their life is up to them."

He sighs, "I know that, but still, April has been my friend as long as you have. She's like a little sister to me and I don't want her to get hurt."

She leans over and kisses his cheek before turning back to Alexus, "And that's sweet, but just relax a little. Come on, Amy wants to see the twins before surgery today, then I want to visit Braden Morris before anything and I have a full day of board duties and phone calls with your mother."

Jackson laughs, "I wouldn't want to be you."

Ivy pouts, "Hey. Well, you wouldn't last being me for a day anyways. Lets go."

The Avery family quickly gets to the hospital where they find Amelia waiting for them in front of the hospital, "Hello my favorite sister."

"Hello to my favorite sister, her husband, and my awesome niece and nephew! Look at you two! God, they're adorable. Here, I have a waffle for you," Amelia leans down to look at the twins, handing a waffle to both Jackson and Ivy.

"Thank you! I know, I'm just that good at having good-looking children. It's a talent," Ivy brags.

Owen comes up to them, "Uh, hey. I'm sorry to interrupt but we have a legal problem."

Jackson and Ivy sigh, "Those four words together make me break out in hives. Okay, uh, Amy, do you mind taking the twins down to daycare? I'm guessing this needs to be handled right away and-"

Amelia cuts her sister off, "Of course. I don't have anything for a while. Go. Be bosses."

"Thanks. So what's going on? Who's involved?" She asks as they start walking to a conference room.

"Bailey, Edwards, and the Morris family."

"Damn. I like the Morris'"

The lawyer sits next to Jackson as they face Bailey and Edwards, "Parents authorized your treatment with signed consent."

"Yes," Bailey nods.

"Then they told Dr. Edwards that they changed their mind."

"Yes," Edwards nods.

"Dr. Edwards informed you, Dr. Bailey, of the parents withdrawal of consent."

"Yes," they say.

"And then you gave the patient the stem-cell transplant anyway."

Bailey nods. The lawyer asks, "Have you told anybody else about this?"

"I informed Dr. Yang this morning as a representative of the board," Bailey tells them.

Jackson, Ivy and Owen all share a look as the lawyer asks, "What did she say?"

"She gave me a high-five."

Ivy asks, "And did you apologize?"

"To Dr. Yang?" Bailey questions.

She shakes her head, "To the parents. An apology could go a long way in circumstances like this."

Bailey argues, "An apology is only effective when a mistakes been made.  I chose not to honor their wishes. It wasn't a mistake."

Owen sighs as Ivy nods, "You're right. It was our mistake. For giving you a lab in the first place."

"Dr. Avery, Dr. Shepherd, I haven't held my son in months, and I want him to come out, but for all we know, she could be making up numbers to cover her own ass," Teresa tells them.

David agrees, "Yeah, we can't trust that it's safe. I mean, what if we get him home and something happens."

Jackson nods, "You know what? I understand your concerns. What I'm saying is if the labs show-"

Teresa asks him, "Are you a parent, Dr. Avery?"

Ivy nods for him, "Yes. We have twins. They turn 8 months tomorrow."

"If someone did this to you, your children, how would you react? One mother to another?"

"Here's what I'll do. I'll run the labs myself. Noone else but Dr. Avery and myself will touch them. Teresa, David, I know this is asking a lot, but can you trust me? I'm not asking you to trust Dr. Bailey, but me," Ivy steps forward.

They nod, "Yes. You were so nice and understanding when we first came in and you've visited Braden when you could. We trust you."

Ivy smiles, "Good. I will get those labs started."

Stepping into the conference room, Ivy looks at Ben, "Dr. Warren, please step out of the room."

He crosses his arms, "Look, she is my wife."

Ivy scoffs, "Fine. Lawyers are meeting now, we will be discharging Braden soon, and the Morris's are pissed. Now, Dr. Warren, please step pit so I can have a moment with Dr. Bailey."

Ben nods before asking, "So it's a malpractice suit?"

"Worse. Assult and battery charges."

Bailey turns to her husband, seeing the look of Ivys face, "Tucks soccer practice is gonna be over soon. I was supposed to pick him up. Can you? There's nothing you can do for me here."

He kisses her cheek before leaving g the room. Ivy shuts the door before turning to Bailey, "I'm not going to talk to you surgeon to surgeon or boss to employee right now. I'm gonna talk mother to mother. As in how the hell could you, with a clear mind, inject something into a little boy without his parents permission?! Braden is about Tucks age, is he not? And I know, as a mother, that I would not stop until the person that violated, because that's what you did, my child. I know you would do the same. Hell, if any other surgeon did this to a patient, you would call for even worse charges because you do as the family asks. You work for the family. You don't decide who is your guinea pig at any moment. If you miraculously get out of this, you will be on probation until I say otherwise. Hunt will be in to talk to you soon."

Ivy then storms out of the room, leaving Bailey to think.

"We ran the labes twice, just to make sure, and his immune-system values are within the normal range," Ivy smiles at the Morris'.

David looks at her, "Lets do it."

Jackson nods at Owen before Braden runs out of the room and into his mother's arms. Ivy sniffles before leaning into her husband, who wraps an arm around her waist and kisses the top of her head.

Owen steps forward, "She went about it the wrong way, but Baileys treatment did work."

"A-a-are you looking for a thank you, Dr. Hunt? She's lucky he's alive, because we're only gonna take her license. When we're done, she won't practice medicine ever again. And if we lost him, I wouldn't stop until she was behind bars. I-" David can't finish.

"It wasn't Dr. Baileys fault. She didn't do anything wrong. It's my fault he got the treatment. It's mine," Edwards tells him, "I forgot to tell her you wanted to withdraw consent, so she just went ahead, and when I told her the truth, she covered for me. It was a a mistake."

"You forgot?! You just...forgot?!" David starts yelling.

"Hold on. David, please. Look, Dr. Edwards is a resident, a trainee..." Jackson moves next to Edwards.

Owen follows, "And if you want to yell at someone, then-"

David stops him, "In what world does that make it okay? My son could have died, and you're just gonna stand there and tell me that it's okay because it would have been a mistake?! Wha-"

Teresa hasn't let go of her son, "David. David, come here. Come here. Sit down. David, he's alive, and he's healthy, and we can take him home. Maybe-maybe we should just go home, hm"

Braden looks up, "Can we, dad? Can we go home?"

"Okay," David nods.

"And Dr. Shepherd won't just let this go, right, Dr. Shepherd?" Teresa looks at the woman.

Jackson, Owen, and Edwards hold their breath. Ivy is the one that may not go along with this lie. She never likes lying to a patient more their family, especially not since she's grown close with this one.

Ivy smiles, "Of course. Dr. Edwards will have one week of disciplinary suspension. Now, I suggest, going home and just cuddling your little boy. Watch a movie, read a book, just do something as a family because Braden is okay. You can take your son home."

Amelia runs up and hugs her sister, "I am breaking up with James."

She turns to her, "What? What are you talking about? I haven't seen you in 12 hours and you decide to break up with your fiancé?"

"He helped me out of a tough time. One where when you and Derek were here and struggling yourselves, he helped me. But now, now I don't think I need it. And staying in the relationship will just hurt him and me and I don't think we can. So, I'm ending it," Amelia shares.

Ivy hugs her, "Hey, it's okay. I'm proud of you though. For doing what you know is good for you. You've come a long way and I am so freakin proud of you, Amy."

"Thank you, Ivy. I'm glad that I can be the older sister you're proud of," she tears up.

"You always have been. Hell, even when Derek and I found you passed out or when I found you on that rooftop, I was still more proud of you then Liz or Nancy or Kathleen," Ivy tears up too.

"Yeah, the bar is really low, isn't it?"

"You've climbed higher than you think. Come on, you can come with me to pick up my kids."
