Ivy giggles as she operates with Bailey and Amelia, "You're never gonna make your flight."

Bailey sasses, "No, you won't. You're gonna miss your flight."

Derek says over the phone, "

Ivy jumps in, "There was a huge accident on the 5. All the lanes are closed. The traffic is insane. We're here looking at a guy from the accident and Bailey and I are sewing up holes in his gut."

They laugh as Amelia shakes her head, "The point is you might as well turn around now cause you'll miss your flight."

"There are no shortcuts to the airport," they all say.

"

Amelia tries bribery, "Come on. I'm doing a spondylithesis today. I'm saying if you head back now, I might let you-"

They just hear static, so Ivy asks, "Derek, are you still there? We can't hear you. Derek? Derek?"

The phone goes out.

Little did she know, that was the last time she would ever hear her brothers voice.

And she didn't even get to tell him goodbye or that she loved him.

Ivy feels herself being pulled into a conference room. She looks up and sees Jackson, "Oh, hey. Whats up?"

Jackson steals himself. He's about to tell the love of his life that her brother, her dad, is dead.

"Jackson. What's going on? Why do you have that look on your face?

"Ivy...sit down. Please," she sits in a chair and folds her hands on the table as he sits next to her, "Meredith just informed us that...Derek died."

Ivy chuckles, "Jackson, that's not a funny joke," she watches as his face stays sad, "What? No! That's not possible! I just talked to him. He was on his way to the airport!"

She stands up, shaking her head as Jackson stands with her, "I'm sorry."

"No, no, no. Does Amy know?" Ivy asks, clinging to Jackson.

"Hunts telling her right now."

Ivy makes her way to the door, "I've got to go-to go talk to Amy. Decide who tells mom."

She quickly exits the room, wiping the stray tears as everyone's eyes go to her. Searching her pockets, she curses as she realizes her phone is in the E.R. Making her way downstairs, she keeps her head down as she grabs her phone.

While she does this, she doesn't realize that every attending and resident besides Amelia was down there. They watch as Ivy ignores all of them, before following her to the attendings lounge. They watch her set her phone on the table before sitting on a chair and staring at it.

Edwards asks the attendings, "What is she doing?"

"My guess. Calling her mom and sisters so Amela and Meredith won't have to," Jackson joins them.

"Doesn't she not speak to them?" Wilson asks.

"Nope. But she is gonna make everyone elses life easier before she gives herself a chance to grieve," Owen tells them.

They watch as Ivy picks up the phone, dialing her mothers number, "Hey mom. Are you sitting down? It's about Derek."

After calling her mother and sisters on the east coast, Ivy sets off to find Amelia. She finds her in the same scrub room that Owen told her, "Amy."

Amelia turns to her, "Ivy..."

They don't say anything else but just cling to each other. No one understands the pain they are going through, but them.

At the funeral, Ivy blocks everyone out. She focuses only on the casket, holding her brother. She holds Christopher in her arms as Jackson holds Alexus with his other arm wrapped around Ivy.

After the service, Ivy spots her mother and sisters while walking back with Amelia. They share a look before making their way over to them. The five sisters share a look before moving to a group hug. Some of them shedding tears, others sobbing, only Ivy, comforting them all. Pulling away from the hug, Ivy moves to her mother. Ivy sees the tears in Carolyn's eyes and embraces her.

Carolyn doesn't care about anything but the fact that her baby boy is dead. She clings to the child that is most like him. The only one he got to raise her entire childhood.

Ivy sits on Meredith's couch as everyone freaks out about where she and the kids could possibly be. Owen paces, "Its just so strange that she left with no warning."

"Her husband died, I think that's all the warning we should have needed," Ivy sasses, taking a sip of the beer in her hand.

Amelia joins in, "She left a note."

Callie scoffs, "Uh, the kids and I are safe? Yeah, that's helpful."

As Jackson keeps his arm around Ivys waist and takes the bottle from her, Alex tells them, "I called Yang again, but she hasn't heard from Mer since the funeral."

"Are you serious? That was weeks ago. W-okay, I just don't understand. I don't understand. I do not understand how you-" Bailey starts.

"Hey. What are you thinking?" Jackson asks his wife.

She's been closed up tight since the funeral. He's been trying to get her to talk without pushing to much, but it's hard. He's worried.

Callie suggests, "Look, maybe it's time we hire a detective, make sure she's really safe."

"Yeah, I think we should call the police," Maggie agrees.

Ivy stands up, "No. We are not doing that."

"Ivy-"

"No. She did what she had to do as a mother and a grieving wife for her and her kids. For Derek's kids. She doesn't owe us an explanation. Hell, I would be lying if I say I hadn't thought of doing the same thing. The only thing stopping me is that my family is here," Ivy paces.
