One-Shot #11: Coming Out

Alexus nervously pulls the hair-tie around her wrist back until it snaps back into place. She repeats this a couple dozen times before her twin brother grabs her wrist and covers the hair-tie, "Would you quit it? You'll be just fine. It's mom and dad. It's not like it's a scary monster."

She glares at him, pinching his arm and twisting until he screams out and lets go of her arm, "First of all, I  it's mom and dad, that's part of the reason I'm freaking out. I don't want to disappoint them or make them hate me."

Chris sighs, wrapping an arm around her shoulders, "Remember what aunt Amelia said.

"I know!" Alexus laughs, "But it's still nerve wracking. I mean, a lot of the LGBTQ+ community don't even accept or support bi people, how are mom and dad, our straight parents, gonna be okay with me being bi?"

"Because it's mom and dad. They love us and just want us to be happy. Besides, if something goes wrong, we can move in with aunt Amelia and Scout."

Alexus tilts her head in confusion, "We? But they wouldn't have a problem with you. It'd be me."

"If they have a problem with you loving who you love, then I have a problem with them. Face it, you're stuck with me for the rest of your life."

"I guess I can live with that. Your disgusting body odor on the other hand has to go," She gags, waving her hand in front of her face as if to fan his stink away.

Chris tackles her with a hug and tries to force her to smell his armpits, "I do not stink! I smell great. See, smell me."

Jackson and Ivy open the front door and walk into the living room to see their oldest children wrestling, "Okay, when I left this morning, I had two 16 year olds, not six year olds."

Alexus starts to get nervous again when faced with her parents, "Oh, yeah, well, it's Chris' fault."

"Sure, blame me. The only boy in the house. It's always my fault," Chris complains, flopping back on the couch dramatically to show that he's kidding.

Jackson rolls his eyes at his son, "You are more and more like your mother every day."

"Which is the best thing ever," Ivy reminds him, flicking his arm.

"Of course, love."

"Uh, mom, dad," Alexus calls their attention, nervously, "Can I talk to you two in private?"

They nod, sharing a worried look, "Of course, princess. Chris, can you go up to your room for a sec?"

Chris is already getting up, giving Alexus a supportive kiss on the forehead before going into his room.

Jackson and Ivy take a seat on the couch on either side of Alexus. Ivy gestures for Alexus to start, "Okay, well, I don't want you guys to hate me or be disappointed in me or kick me out. I mean, I don't think you guys will but this is big and-"

"Hold up," Jackson stops her, taking one of her hands into his, "There is nothing, and I mean nothing, that would result in us kicking you out or to hate you. You are our daughter and nothing will ever change that."

Ivy nods, taking her other hand, "Your dad's right, sweetheart. We'll love you no matter what and you can always talk to us. What's got you so worried?"

Alexus takes a breath before nodding and blurting it out, "I'm bi."

The 16 year old is surprised to feel herself pulled into a group hug by her parents, "Oh, sweetheart, we're so proud of you for coming out!"

"Really? You aren't mad?"

"Of course not," Jackson tells her, pulling her into a hug with just him, reminding her of when she was younger and would cuddle in her dad's arms, "You're still the same Alexus we loved yesterday and you're the same Alexus we'll love tomorrow. We just now know more about you."

Ivy pulls Alexus into a hug of her own, "Allie, this  a big deal. But not a bad thing. I'm so glad you told us."

Alexus sniffles, tears running down her face, "I know it was stupid to be worried. Both Chris and aunt Amelia reminded me that you two love me but all I had in my head were horror stories of parents kicking their kids out once they came out to them and I didn't want that to happen so I thought about keeping it a secret but then I felt restricted and like I was hiding something terrible but it's not terrible and-"

"Okay, princess, you need to breathe," Jackson reminds her, mimicking taking a breath for her to copy, "I am so happy that you told us. Amelia and Chris are right, we love you and nothing is going to change that. Especially your sexuality."

She smiles, hugging her parents again, "Thanks, you guys."
