⇢ CHAPTER 41 ; EXTRAS

down the hallway towards the main hallway as he told her, "You're married. You married that guy."

"So?" Teddy refuted, "You got married."

"To the woman I love." Owen noted, "You don't even know this guy."

"Look," Teddy explained, "the man needed insurance. You know, can we not talk about this please?"

"Not ever or not right now?"

"Uh," Teddy answered as they approached the rest of the staff, "I'm thinking not ever."

Owen scanned his eyes across the room, taking note of Mark's arm around a crying Lexie and Jackson's arms around Holly as she buried her face in his chest and Jackson looked down at her before glancing back at the television, "Hey," Owen asked, "what's going on?"

"

Owen looked over at Bailey after glancing at Webber's comforting hand on April's shoulder as she cried, "Bailey? Bailey, fill us in."

"Bailey turned around to answer but caught herself with no words,

"There are fifteen ambulances on the way." Owen announced to the surgeons standing in front of the E.R., "Maybe more to come. First one is three minutes out."

"People..." Webber stepped out in front of the crowd, walking around as he spoke, "People... our own trauma is fresh, and we are going to have feelings today, and there is no shame in that. What I want to say is, what we went through six months ago, they are going through right now, which makes them our brothers and sisters... which makes them fellow travelers, which makes them our own." Holly sniffled lightly as she shook her hands lightly to get a hold of herself, "So to the very best of our ability, we are gonna do our work first. And you're gonna have your feelings later."

Jackson, who was right behind Holly, leaned down to her ear and whispered, "Are you okay?"

Holly shook her head as she looked up at him, "No, but I will be." She sighed, "Are you?"

Jackson looked down before going back to his upright position as an ambulance pulled in, shaking his head no.

"Kepner," Derek patted Holly's arm as another rolled in, "let's go."

Disregarding how much Holly loved Neuro, Holly wanted nothing more but to leave the O.R. every time Derek and Meredith argued about updating the wife. Even the staff wanted to leave as they felt awkward listening into their arguments.

Thankfully, the surgery went perfectly and they were able to save their patient.

One by one, the doctors filled the gallery as they watched Dr. Altman and Cristina finish their surgery-- the last gun shooting victim in the hospital, and although he was the shooter, they watched down with hopes that the operation would be successful.

Holly sat in between Jackson and April as Owen Hunt walked inside, "I just took my kid to a room." Owen announced, "He was the last one."

"Besides this one." Webber remarked, briefly pointing down.

"Mm-hmm." Owen nodded, "Yeah. Besides this one."

"" Cristina noted, looking at the monitor.

Teddy nodded, ""

They all practically sat on the edge of their seats, looking down to see Teddy's finger tickling the heart before the monitor beeped rhythmically, signaling a job well done. And with one nod to the audience in the gallery, Teddy began to close.

"We saw twenty-six patients." Webber spoke, "Twenty-six victims... and we had no casualties. No one died today."

Holly began to cry, along with April and the rest of the surgeons as Jackson wrapped his arm around Holly and she reached out to hold April's hand.

She felt comfortable-- safe, with his arm around her. Her body shook with soft cries as her hand held onto April and his arm was around her. She sniffled, and his arm was around her.

She could not get over the fact that his arm was around her.

Sure, he had wrapped his arm around her countless of times, yet it felt different for her in this moment. She felt safe-- safe in a world she knew caused plenty of casualties and tragedies to happen, yet with his arm around her, she felt guarded.

Derek's soft chuckle slowly evolved into laughter once his wife joined him a few moments later. The action made the others roll their eyes at him before they began to laugh as well.

Stark looked at the doctors and shook his head, "I hate this place."

All of the doctors, excluding Stark, laughed louder as they watched him walk away. Holly wiped her tears away as she continued to laugh and Webber stood up, "I was holding a grudge." He told Arizona, who stopped laughing along with the others, "I can hire you back. But you're gonna have to work under Stark."

Webber laughed lightly, patting Arizona's shoulder as he walked away and the rest laughed at the expression on Arizona's face.

And Jackson's arm was still around Holly.

Finding Teddy and Henry's relationship... odd, to say the least, Webber stormed back up to Teddy after talking to her about Henry's course of treatment since she was now his and told her, "This is a totally inappropriate relationship. Totally inappropriate."

"You want to talk to me about inappropriate relationships?" Teddy scoffed as Holly walked past the two, "Everywhere I look in this hospital, there is inappropriate relationships-- Grey and Shepherd, Hunt and Yang, the other Grey and Sloan, younger Kepner and Jackson."

Holly choked on the air as she turned around and defended herself, "I-- I'm not dating-- Jackson-- Dr. Avery and I are not--" She chuckled awkwardly, not liking Webber and Altman's gaze on her, "We are not dating."
