There is only one person in the whole of class 1-A who knew that Shoto Todoroki, the son of the number one hero Endeavor and ranked fifth in class, is gay.
That person was Momo Yaoyorozu, one of his best friends (alongside All Might's secret love child, of course).
Shoto knew that if his father found out about this, he would get disowned. He put on a facade that he didn't and wouldn't ever care, but his father was still exactly that- his father.
Shoto also knew that he had a tendency to be extremely dense. That tendency came to bite him in the ass.
Musutafu, Japan, 7:26 PM. Todoroki family dinner celebrating Rei Todoroki's release from the behavioral health facility.
Enji Todoroki was seated at the head of the kotatsu, with Fuyumi on his left-hand side and Natsuo to his right. Rei was next to Fuyumi, where Touya used to sit, and Shoto was next to Natsuo.
"I missed this…" Fuyumi sighed as she twirled her udon around her chopsticks. There was a heavy tension in the room, but she paid it no mind.
"Exactly like it used to be." Enji stated coldly. He was right, even though Touya used to have a spot at the table, he rarely joined them for dinner. Now Touya's dead.
Natsuo clenched his fists tightly around his chopsticks at that remark, "Yeah? And what about Touya?" Natsuo glared at his father, daring him to respond.
"Touya isn't coming back. He died ten years ago." Enji responded, barely glancing at Natsuo.
Natsuo, just like Shoto, had a bad tendency. He had the tendency to easily lose his cool and say the wrong thing at the wrong time.
"Yeah? And who's fault is that? All he wanted was to prove himself to you and you left him to die on that mountain. Why didn't you go?" Natsuo interrogated his father. He knew the answer to this question, though. But some part of him hoped that his father would someday come to regret his actions. That day is yet to come.
Touya had come out as a homosexual a week before he died. Enji didn't meet him on that mountain in hopes Touya would realize his 'choice' was wrong and go back on his word. This meeting was for Touya to prove he was strong enough. Not just to his father but to himself. Enji didn't go because he felt it in his heart (though I doubt he has one) that Touya could not and would not be worthy if he could not carry down the bloodline. It didn't matter how well he mastered his quirk, the decision was made.
"You know exactly why, Natsuo. He got it in his head somehow that he liked men. Only women like men. Not other men." Enji replied calmly, he's had this conversation with Natsuo before.
Natsuo sat in silence, anticipating if what he wanted to say next would be worth it.
Fuyumi ignored them, not wanting to argue with the family she loved so dearly, and simply rubbed circles on her mother's back since she had just been staring at her food the entire time.
Shoto, on the other hand, slurped up his noodles while watching them in anticipation. He held a lot of disdain for his father and loved watching him struggle against Natsuo's outbreaks.
"Endeavor," Natsuo said, not referring to his father with any love in his words, "what if I told you I was bisexual?" Natsuo asked, suddenly looking up to meet his father's eyes.
Enji, who had the brain of a boomer, took this as his son coming out as straight-up gay.
"You think you like men?" Enji said, sternly looking at Natsuo.
"I don't think I like men, I know I like men." Natsuo spat.
Enji, whose flaming beard started to show up out of anger, looked at Natsuo with fury in his eyes, "Boy, don't play these games with me. You know the consequences."
Natsuo shrugged, leaning back slightly, "What do you want from me? Men are hot."
Before Enji could reply, Shoto, who was only halfway into the conversation, spoke up, "Truer words have never been spoken before."
Natsuo looked over surprised by Shoto's nonchalance. Enji, on the other hand, was about to pop his top.
"Could you repeat that, Shoto? I don't think I heard you right." Enji asked.
Shoto, who it hadn't yet dawned on the seriousness of the situation, looked at him slightly confused, "That it's true, men are hot?"
After a short silence, Shoto covered his mouth and spoke through his fingers in realization, "I just outed myself to the most homophobic man I know."
Natsuo sighed, patting Shoto on the shoulder, "Yeah, you did. Don't worry, though, I'll be sure to visit your grave daily."
"Get out." Enji said, he had his forehead pressed against his fingers, looking down at his food. Shoto couldn't see his face but he could tell his father was more livid than he'd ever been before.
Fuyumi finally stepped in from beside Rei, who'd completely dissociated at this point, "Let's all calm down, we can talk this ov-"
"GET OUT." Enji interrupted Fuyumi, having moved his right hand to point at the door behind him, "AND DON'T COME BACK."
Shoto, who was seconds away from joining his mother in the sixth dimension, quickly stood up and beelined for the door.
