Chapter Eighteen

I opened my eyes slowly. The first thing I felt was my head aching. I propped myself up on the cushion and realized two things. One, my torso felt like I had been hit by a bus. And two, I was back at my apartment laying on my couch.

I groaned and placed my fingers at the bridge of my nose and massaged it gently. When my vision managed to finally merge to where I could see one object clearly, I realized that I was in different clothes and my hair was wrapped in a towel. "What in the—"

"Phoenix," Kai's face came into my view, and I jerked back and screamed.

"Ow! Ow ow ow!" I howled and gripped onto my side. Kai guided my head to lay back into the pillow I was propped against.

"You must remain still. Your rib is bruised." Kai frowned. "Your body temperature is low." He pressed both of his hands against my cheeks, and I felt warmth coming from his palms.
