Chapter Twenty Six

"You escaped?" I glanced back at the tower. I didn't feel comfortable with his excuse for coming at me as if he were a tiger attacking his prey. "If that is the case, then why are no soldiers chasing after you? Why is it so quiet?"

"I snuck out. After I felt I was at a safe distance away from their headquarters, and came to this valley. I thought you were a Sellors soldier." He threw himself on his knees. "Please allow me to pass. I have a family, do not let me perish here."

I eyed his appearance closely. His long black hair was disheveled, and his arms were scratched. It looked like he had a hard time leaving. Even his garb was torn at the bottom. He was barefooted and his feet were covered in dirt.

I tossed the stone away and sighed. "I'm sorry. You can go." The poor guy probably felt exhausted from running, and I made it worse by smacking him with a heavy rock. I felt guilty.

"I owe my life to you, Miss!" He bowed his head and pushed himself off the ground.
