Chapter Thirty Two

Kai followed me back to the other side of the lake. It was night and the moon was full. Kai was distracted with his arms, pulling up his sleeves and twisting them to view his wrists. Occasionally, he would touch his lips and eye me eerily.

He was probably wondering how he was still alive. When we got to the Forest, Kai would see his reflection in the puddles and brush his short hair out of his face. The new look was very good for him. His hair length fell right at the bottom of his earlobe. It wasn't super short, but it was much less hair than he had before.

Kai would gaze at his appearance with a frown because he was displeased with it.

We continued our journey, but with Kai's eyes being so unfocused, he kept tripping over twigs or walking into trees. It made me wonder if the fire poppy had anything to do with his vision being so off.

"Kai, are you okay?"
