I appeared inside the club, staggering and falling down as my skin still sizzled. My wrists were in pain due to the freezing. I got up, brushed off my clothes and continued walking despite the other people's looks.
"Stop," One of the security guards put a hand on my chest before immediately pulling it back.
His hand was burnt. I apologised, "Yeah, can't exactly control my temperature after basically getting drowned. What's going on?"
He kept his distance from me as he said, "You did not enter through the front door."
"Doesn't matter," I waved him off. "I'm here to see your boss."
"The boss isn't in today," The security guard mentioned.
"Really? Why?"
"He is off on vacation since late last night," The security guard explained. "If there is anything you require, it was mentioned that you should approach the secretary."
I let out a sigh before making my way across the club. I eventually just turned into flames and appeared in the secretary's office. Inside, there was an unfamiliar face. The woman had a pixie cut, her hair fading into purple. She noticed me and was visibly shocked.
"I take it you're new?" I asked.
"No...? I've been working here for at least three months," She replied. "Also, did you just... appear?"
"Three months...?" I rubbed my chin. "What happened to the other guy? The one who liked macaroni or something."
"Justin retired," She stated.
"Ah, okay," I nodded. "So... I was just wondering if you knew where your boss has gone?"
"He mentioned going on vacation," The secretary told me. "Something about Hawaii."
I stepped away from her, nodding. Before I turned around, I told her, "You want to know a fun fact?"
She blinked in confusion.
"Well, men and women typically have very similar internal body temperatures, and it's almost impossible to distinguish between the two," I explained to her. "However, women do tend to have lower skin temperature than men."
"What are you getting at?" She laughed nervously.
"Elementals, on the other hand, have no internal body temperature which I can detect," I continued. "and considering that two of them can become invisible and impermeable, I do tend to get suspicious."
I extended a hand and a wave of flames engulfed the room.
The flames were cut in half. In front of the secretary, a man stood there with a white blade. He scratched his head before flicking behind him, the disguise of the secretary getting ripped off. The male secretary cowered behind the Elemental that had just shown up.
"You should be more trusting next time," Light suggested.
He had short blond hair that was a shade lighter than Water's hair. He had a scar of a halo on the back of his neck. Light pointed his sword at me, a calm smile on his face. "Surprised you managed to figure it out. Honestly, I wasn't planning on anything like performing a sneak attack. I'm just here to win this game."
"Light," I addressed.
Light's blade dipped downward when I tried moving my hands up. I stopped and said to him, "You know that Dark made a deal with Water, right?"
"Yeah, I know," Light agreed. "Seriously, she's gonna go overboard with everything she does."
"It doesn't matter to me," Light said. "She controls her side of the afterlife, and I control my side. We even got these souls that can help judge other souls for us."
Light had a wide smile on his face. "It's been great! We no longer have to fight each other for souls anymore."
"So you want to kill humans to send them to the afterlife where you can play with them?"
I was glancing at the human cowering behind Light. Light stepped in my line of sight, saying, "Well, no. No point. Did you know that humans killed by Elementals immediately go to Hell? I can't do anything to them if they're down there."
"Well, Dark's planning to kill everyone," I told him before pointing at the human behind Light. "Including you."
Light appeared behind me with his human. The human looked rather confused as Light waved me off. My vision got tilted as my body was cut horizontally in half. It reformed before I could fall, but Light was just gone.
"I have gotten beaten around by everyone today," I complained to myself as I made my way out of the room. "The games barely started!"
At least now I know two of them. My only question is where the boss of the club was hiding.
I should probably talk to the human again before anything else goes badly.
Seventh basement, was it?
I knocked on the door of her room once again. There was some rustling. This time, I didn't strike a pose in front of the spy hole.
The door unlocked. The girl was wearing a loose hoodie and a pair of shorts as she pointed a knife at me. I put my hands up as she yelled, "What do you want from me?"
"I'm here to protect you," I told her.
"I don't need your help," She scowled before slamming the door in my face.
I turned into flames and slipped through the gap at the bottom of the door, appearing inside. She yelped in surprise and swung the knife at me. I caught her hand, saying, "This is a seriously dangerous threat. My bad for getting you involved, but also kind of not my bad 'cause Time's an idiot."
She wrestled her wrist away from me and ran to the far side of the room. She threw a pillow at me before pointing the knife at me once again.
"Who sent you?" She demanded.
"Myself?" I replied. "Hello? Did you hear what I was saying?"
"Did the lad send you?" She continued.
"What lab?"
She was still wary as she reached for her bag slowly, still keeping her eyes on me. "How did you manage to get inside this room? What are you?"
I put a finger to my head.
This is more troublesome than I thought.
"I swear, I would rather go adopt a deaf child than deal with you right now," I muttered to myself.
"What?"
"You've been caught in a game," I tried to explain. "I'm supposed to protect you from the other Elementals trying to kill you. Or at least, I think they're trying to kill you. I know Dark wants to kill you."
"Ele... mentals?" She asked. "I've heard that before..."
Her eyes widened with realisation. I must have misread her or something, because instead of accepting what I had to say, she threw a bomb at me. Where did she even get a bomb from?
