A lot sure has happened in one day, huh?
I was strolling through the night street by myself. I knew Air was with Mevis, so there was not much of a rush to defend her. However, there was the whole situation of finding the rest. I could go and ask Air to help locate the next person, but if she was busy doing that, Dark might pop out and assassinate Mevis. Then again, I don't have any locating abilities helpful in this situation.
I stopped by a convenience store and got some medical supplies and a couple of snacks.
When I left, I was face-to-face with a familiar face. I sighed, saying, "Okay, it's at night, can we not do this right now? I just spent the entire day getting my ass handed to me."
Water stood in front of me, once again shirtless.
He followed me when I walked by him. He put a hand on my shoulder. My body and his started sizzling the moment we came into contact. He let go almost instantly, his hand evaporating. I brushed my shoulder before asking, "What's up with you?"
Water laughed, waving my question aside. "Nothing much, why?"
"You want chips?" I asked, pulling a bag out.
He refused my offer before telling me, "I'm not here now to fight."
"What else would you be here for?" I scoffed. "Didn't you make a deal with Dark?"
"Something tells me that offer won't hold much value for much longer," Water shrugged. "Especially when Air has decided to join your side."
"If I have you gunning for me, I think it's fair for me to have help," I argued.
Water put his hands up in defence.
"By the way, I tried eating pizza the other day," Water pointed out.
"How did it taste?"
"Terrible!" He complained, sticking out his tongue. "It was so bad. I don't know how humans eat any of this stuff."
"I drank apple juice and it literally tried to extinguish me," I added.
There was a bit of silence.
"I've been watching humans for a really long time," Water brought up. "Like, a really long time."
"Can tell."
We were getting closer to my bakery, so I stopped some distance away.
"But I've never really understood them, you know," He added, jabbing his chest with a finger. "We put on this physical form in an attempt to blend in, but I just don't understand them at all."
"We've been through this," I let out a sigh. "We aren't humans."
I shrugged. "Besides, what's so good about being mortal?"
Water frowned and rubbed his chin. "I don't know."
"Look, your obsession has lasted about..." I stared to the side. "How many years have humans been around? Look, whatever, your obsession has lasted way too long. In fact, the only reason we're stuck in a physical form right now is that you insisted on it."
Water smiled innocently. "But it's fun, right?"
"Creation thought so too," I grumbled. "Look where we are now."
I paused to think about it.
"Wait, what are you getting at?" I asked him.
"I want a chance to be human," Water stated bluntly.
"You're crazy."
Water shrugged. I pointed at him, asking him, "You, the Elemental of Water, as a human? What would happen if you died?"
He smiled brightly. "That's the thing I found out."
Water stepped away from me slowly. "Do you have any idea what happens after an Elemental dies?"
"Everything under their influence would cease to exist," I replied.
"But what about Sound? Energy? Emotion? Chaos?" Water asked, raising an eyebrow. "The Elementals you killed."
I glared at him. "We both know it wasn't me."
Water clapped his hands together. "My point is, Fire, that when an Elemental dies, their domain doesn't disappear. At least, not all of it."
"Magic has completely vanished from this world," I stated.
"I've been talking to Time as of late," Water told me. "About what happens to Elementals after they were to 'die'. You know what Time is like, right?"
"He ages and dies and reincarnates," I sighed. "Everyone knows this."
"I was curious, so I asked him about the rest of us," Water explained. "Why don't we reincarnate? Turns out, after our deaths, we return to our origins. We go back to Creation. All the emotions, memories and experiences return to Creation, and if he wanted to, he could simply recreate us."
"And yet he doesn't."
I stepped slightly to the side, Water about a few metres away from me. He had his hands shoved into his pockets as he talked.
"I'm completely fine with dying," Water told me. "Even if Creation doesn't want to recreate me, the new Elemental of Water should it ever be made again would eventually end up exactly like me."
"Your decisions do not affect you alone," I argued. "We are stuck here in a physical form because you decided to imitate a human. You just had to give Creation the idea to send all of us here."
"I know, I'm amazing," Water smirked.
I pointed at him. "If you want to live your human fantasy, you can live it out by yourself. I'm personally not interested."
"Oh, I'm going to get what I want," Water stated. "What I've wanted for countless years."
He lifted an arm and pointed at me, his arm fully extended. I braced myself for impact. He continued, "I've been speaking with Time. A new era is approaching, there's nothing you can do to stop it."
The entire area froze over, including me. The ice melted off quickly, but a jet of water tore a hole in my torso. I swiped my hand in Water's direction, a wave of flames rolling through where he had just been standing. I melted the ice off the ground and looked around, Water was nowhere in sight.
A new era?
Creation must be planning something again. Whatever it is he's planning, I doubt it was anything simple.
I sighed and returned to the bakery. Mevis was sleeping and Air was hovering slightly above a chair, hugging her knees. I pulled a chair over to sit near Air, telling her, "Space has been eliminated."
She nodded, her eyes still locked onto Mevis.
"We still have to be careful of Dark though," I continued. "If we let our guards drop for just a moment, she would most likely try to assassinate her."
Water's words stuck in my head.
A new era was beginning?
I ignored it and focused on what was in front of me. The game. In order to preserve my pride and to give this random girl I've met only once before the powers of an Elemental, I needed to win. Huge emphasis on my pride.
