Assassination

Having accepted the commission, Alexander's course of action was not to go straight and assassinate the target, but to find more information about him.

First of all, he didn't want to assassinate someone that was a genuine good person, even though someone like that would be very rare in the extraordinary world.

Secondly and most importantly, assassinating someone without having a complete set of information about them sounds like an easy way to court death, even if they are regarded as a Sequence 9 Beyonder.

The next day, very early in the morning, Alexander left his house while taking his gun and the Red tyrant with him and started walking towards the address written in the commission.

As he had some time before he reached his destination, Alexander started recalling the information that he had analyzed based on what was written in the commission paper.

"The target's apartment is in East Borough, meaning that he is either a factory worker or a gang member.."

"Since the rewards of the commission include the spoils of the battle, it means that whoever put up the request didn't want his extraordinary items or characteristics but wanted to assassinate him because of personal enmity or at least a conflict of interest."

"With this in mind, there is a big chance that both of them are not part of an organization as it would be too easy to kill a low-Sequence Beyonder for an organization of any size."

"Of course, that's assuming that the commission itself isn't a trap by itself."

Alexander didn't know if he was affected by the potion or it was his true nature coming out, but since his transmigration he had become more calculative and tried to weigh the pros and cons of any situation.

Reaching the block of apartments written in the address, Alexander could see light coming out of the target's apartment's windows, meaning that they were most likely inside.

Alexander didn't immediately enter the building, but used Red Tyrant's Shadow Movement and turned into a shadow.

Although it was morning, the sun had yet to fully rise and the smog of Backlund further limited people's vision.

As a shadow, Alexander utilized his increased speed and decreased presence and wandered around the building, searching for any possible ambushers.

Having found nothing, Alexander didn't enter the building but started waiting outside of it, while hiding his figure.

Just as he turned the Shadow Movement off, knowledge that would corrupt anyone below a certain Sequence was instilled directly to his brain.

That knowledge included the Outer Deities, the Old Ones and the Sefirots.

As expected, Alexander didn't get corrupted by this knowledge, basically confirming that the Fate Simulator was shielding him.

For most Beyonders, this would be an unusable Sealed Atifact, but for Alexander it was practically an extraordinary item without any downsides.

Who knows, maybe he will get some useful information someday.

Half an hour later, the apartment's lights turned off and a middle aged man walked out of the building, who Alexander could indentify as his target.

Seeing the man, Alexander didn't follow him but entered the building and walked towards the target's apartment's door.

The door was aged looking and made out of wood, making it easier to bypass.

As he ented the apartment, what greeted Alexander's eyesight was a small living room filled with broken vials and a weird smell in the air.

On one corner of a room was a desk while on the left of the door was a self-made potion concocting table filled with potion recipes and empty vials.

Treading carefully, Alexander walked towards the desk, before finding a notebook that was obviously a diary.

Inwardly, Alexander was questioning whether people in this world had a weird fetish that made them leave behind an item that clearly recorded their every day life.

Especially when said people were Beyonders, he doubted whether this was caused by the starry sky pollution.

Spending some time reading it, Alexander basically understood the target's life.

In short, his life was nothing special.

He worked as a factory worker until he got fired five years ago and resorted to robbing people.

During one of his robberies three years ago, he managed to find out the existence of extraordinary world through one of his victims.

Since then, he had become a Planter and made money through selling potions on extraordinary gatherings.

Of course, he would still resort to robbery whenever he was in need of money to buy materials for his potions.

No longer feeling any guilt about killing such a person, Alexander put the diary down before walking into the other rooms looking for any extraordinary item and finding nothing.

Knowing that he should assassinate the target before he notices that someone had moved the items, Alexander didn't leave the house but sat on a chair in the living room and started waiting once again.

He was pretty sure that the Planter had gone out for a round of robberies, since he had mentioned in the diary that during this time is the easiest time to rob people, as it isn't dark enough to make them wary but also isn't bright enough to protect them.

Half an hour later, he saw a middle aged man enter the building through the apartment's windows and instantly sat up and hid behind the potion table.

Some seconds later, the sound of footsteps sounded outside the apartment before the door opened slowly and the man walked in.

Alexander didn't immediately act but continued to wait while holding his breath.

Just as the man closed the door and walked past the table, Alexander saw the opportunity and ambushed him.

Immediately, he slammed his whole body against him causing them both to fall down, one on top of the other.

Before the man could react, Alexander shut the his mouth off with his left hand, while his right hand wrapped around his neck, constantly applying pressure.

The man attempted to throw Alexander off, but the enhancement Alexander had gotten from his Barbarian promotion gave him an overwhelming physical advantage.

As the seconds passed, the man struggled less and less and Alexander noticed that his breathing had stopped.

Continuing to apply pressure for some time, Alexander made sure that the man was dead before standing up and looking at the scene of the fight.

"Hell, next time I'll be taking a knife with me.", Alexander couldn't help but curse out loud.

In fact, he really wanted to use his gun but the sound of the gun would surely alert the neighbors.

Although this was East Borough, he couldn't just act as he wanted.

Silently killing him was the best option, since, even if the found him, the police wouldn't care for a poor person like him.

Picking up the Planter characteristics, Alexander didn't move the body but found a rope and wrapped it around the corpse's head, making it seem like a suicide.

Of course, Alexander didn't expect the police to believe that, he just wanted them to have a justification for not doing their job.

Even if they really wanted to track the killer down, a corpse in an area such as East Borough would take weeks for someone to find and the clues would have been lost by then.

Looking for extraordinary items one more time and finding nothing, Alexander left the house and closed the door behind him.
